Battery life at max wattage is an hour max. Prepare to be plugged in. Works wonderfully for its intention. This product is a handheld laptop that compromises FPS for mobility. Best option around for anyone already heavily invested into handheld gaming

I have a steam deck before I got the ally. Yes ally screen is better, audio is a tad better, and have more power to run more graphics demanding games. In my experience with the unit I got some games work beater that the Deck but some games i can run in the deck but not in the Ally, for example Ratchet and clank run no problem in the deck and it didn't want to run stable on the ally (crashed randomly), Start Field work on the Deck and it didn't work on the ally. That was my experience at the same time I was watching video of other people ally working just fine with the games I was having problems. I decided to keep the Steam Deck and return the Ally. Again it might be that I got a defective unit. Your experience might be better

[Employee of bestbuy] Like the title says, i did return this product. The performance qas great, games ran good, windows 11 was surprisingly less of a hassle than i expected (although still bad), it just came down to the battery life and longevity concerns. The battery lasted an hour at most for me. This was miserable, and because batteries degrade in quality over time, this is gonna get worse not too far from today. On top of this, its windows 11. Something like the switch has a purpose, even after its dead. It has games. This is just a windows 11 pc, so its probably gonna get 4 years of life before its not supported. So do i love it? Yes! Its just 2 or 3 years from now when games get more demanding and the battery degrades, its just an expensive paperweight.

I really like the device, compared to Steamdeck I feel it is better because it will play all Windows games. To do that on Steamdeck is a pain. Diablo 4 and Call of Duty both play on this device no problem. the only knock is the battery does not last. Also the accessories are over priced.

It's great for playing on the go. Or at night when laying down. But don't expect to be able to play aaa titles well. I use it primarily for games like Apex, Life is strange. Have to upgrade the SSD to get decent storage space since everything is 50gigs or more.

Other than a few small issues with the Asus Rog Ally like the sd card becoming unusable and freezing now and again, its everything i thought it would be. Plays smooth. Handles graphic intensive games with ease. Its a winner in my book.

The ROG Ally has been awesome for me, I work in IT and love to try out new tech. Setting up the device was easy if you know what you are doing. Havent had any hardware issues so far. This is my go to gaming device for now and it helps me game anywhere in my house. I dont take it out of the house but its nice being able to play any of my pc games on my couch or bed.

    The Best Handheld

Forget the Legion Go, no VRR, terrible speakers, and over gimmicky. It's also heavy. I literally had to put the speakers up to my ear to barely hear dialogue on Netflix. The Ally is the best you can get. Same specks and a lot smoother gameplay. Better software, and the 1080 is better. The higher rez on the Go actually does it a disservice. When down rezed because that's what the specs can actually handle, it looks worse than the Ally. I've tried both. I'm also a big Asus fan and have an M16 laptop. I'm very happy with this device. I will say this though, in order to play 1080p how I want to, these devices still need better specs. If you're willing to wait for a 2nd generation version, that device might actually be perfect if they improve the battery as well. The reach from the right stick to the top face button is a little long, they could make that better. The speakers are excellent on the Ally. I got the perfect grip which is a Skull & Co grip case so the ergonomics are perfect. I play mor on this little thing than my laptop which pushes 1600p on very high or ultra settings.

    Amazing device

Ok ok, ive read some of the reviews and i dont understand why, maybe some people got a defective handheld and didn't work correctly. Which is a bummer. But from my experience since picking this up yesterday morning. Everything was very simple for me. Everything loaded up correctly and my update did not take long at all maybe 20 minutes max. I am not sure if its because i already have an ASUS flow laptop and i logged into my account and didnt have to create one and was a speedy process with that and armory crate. Within the hour i was already downloading games from steam. The only negative thing i can even think of so far, is the analog sticks feel very flimsy and cheap. But i am not to worried about it because this does have a warranty and if anything happens, ill just get them to replace it. Also this review comes from someone that owns a Steamdeck, Onexplayer mini and a GPD Win 3 and by far this system knocks it out of the park for performance wise. Also this review is coming from someone who is used to ASUS ROG products, as i mentioned earlier i have there laptop and is very familiar with the setup and how their products work. But maybe someone who is new to Pc gaming, i can see the confusion on how to get the ball rolling with the setup. Overall this is a very good product especially for the price!

I bought the ally because i was looking for a windows handheld and honestly its it all the boxes. The battery life is not the best but the convenience and portability is why i love it. Ive recently bought a portability charger for it i play it everyday when i dont want to be at my desk.

I've seen a bunch of videos and reviews about the troubles this device has had. I am just reviewing my experience. I haven't had any real issues since I got it. It booted up fine, updated fine, even upgrading the SSD was easy. As far as the performance hit, I didn't really pay attention to be honest. The games still play at good FPS and I haven't tried to go back to the older BIOS version yet. I enjoy my Steam Deck as well, but the fact that I can play any game I own for windows on this without jumping through hoops is amazing. As far as the battery life, I admit I am mostly a couch/bed player but I do have a power bank for when I do need to travel. Not to say others aren't having issues, but as far as my experience I'd definitely recommend this. Excited to see how all handhelds improve in the future.

great handheld device, can access every game you can think of, only downside is the battery life. it gets about 45 minutes from 100% to where it needs to be plugged in to use it.

Consider the black model with better performance, battery life, and storage instead of the base white model with the z extreme chip. The 1080p/120hz claim is achievable only with the 65w wall charger. Without an outlet, play on low settings under 60fps for about an hour and a half on a full charge. The Ally X model is a worthy competitor to the Steam Deck. The base model is disappointing.

      Dear Robbie,

      Thank you for your feedback.

Indeed, the ROG Ally X or the black version offers significant upgrades in performance, battery, and storage over the original white ROG Ally model, a larger battery, more storage size, faster RAM and improve ergonomics and design.

I came from steam deck and its good if you like indies and emulation but pretty bad for AAA Gaming since it cant handle anything but low spec gaming. Thats where the Rog Ally shines it got all the launchers and can play the AAAs without stuttering as long as you have it plugged into a wall. For undocked you got 3 profiles you can customize for how long you want battery to last. The dual fans push heat to the top so ur hands barely feel the heat unlike steam deck. Its also a little bit pricier but totally worth it. My trouble with steam deck was with the verified games. Like you think it could run some games and you install it but it hangs on the launch screen. With the ally it just plays everything because its windows.

Freakin' rocks. It's a windows gaming PC handheld. If you know how to tweak settings in games and work with mods and whatever else to make games play the way you like, this device is a freakin' treat! Man we've come far, I would have committed unspeakable annoying begging to parents as a child to obtain this thing, or at least relegated it to a fantasy possession like a Ferrari or Lamborghini. Hardware is top notch, everything works on mine. You'll probably like it. Modded Minecraft, Monster Hunter, simulators, racers, etc. What a cool device.

So far so good there are a lot of updates being done to fix certain issues but overall really good handheld PC surprisingly fast and alot better then my old onexplayer. Reccomed this PC over the steam deck or onexplayer any day. Biggest down side at the moment is the battery life.
