The only achilles heel of this device is the storage capacity. 500gb is not ever sufficient, however you can upgrade the storage to 2TB for around $200. However, you’d might as well just get the upgraded model for $50 more on top of that. This device is for people who want to play games that have downloadable addons or run third party anti-cheat software like Destiny 2. The Steam Deck cannot support anything beyond the base games.

Decent system, comes with 512 gb that fills up quickly. Already opened it up to put in a 2 tb 2230 NVMe. To get the best out of the games, you need to have it plugged in to get the 30 w turbo mode, and then with some games it seems quite glitchy. The community is great tho. Lots of people share their best setting to help some games run smoother, but still cant get spiderman to swing without the screen lagging. It will run more games than the steamdeck, have yet to find one that wont start. Downloaded Epic games, battlenet, steam (of course), and they have xbox features on it as well. Just make sure you research the best settings and apps that are on board that slow things down and you should be fine.

I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of gameplay on larger and demanding titles like Lies of P but it seems like while they excel in gameplay they lack a little quality hardware. I had my device for 2 weeks before I had to send it in for repair due to the thumb stick being broken and locked the cursor dragging left making it useless for gaming. I bought it because even though I have an up-to-date PC I miss the casualness of a console and this very much hit the spot and would be terrific for travel, even though the battery life is terrible. I am looking forward to getting it back and would not discourage buyers but suggest a reasonable comparison between the options available, steam deck, claw and whatever might come next to see if it would be a better fit.

While I ended up returning this in the end it worked exactly as intended. A pocket computer when you need it, a portable gaming device when you want it. The Armory Crate software worked pretty seamlessly, although it wasn’t without its bugs. The main issue I had with it was the battery life, though it was to be expected considering the specs that it has. Also you don’t get maximum CPU performance without plugging it in, which kind of defeats the purpose of a portable handheld device. Upgradable onboard storage is another plus, and with ASUS Cloud Recovery it makes the whole Windows reinstallation process relatively painless. There is also a microSD slot for those who don’t want to deal with reinstallation. Overall I would recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap alternative to an entry gaming pc with the capability of taking it on the go for short uses.

So it's a very good machine. It is a portable PC and it played all my Epic games and Xbox Cloud games. It gets really hot. It wiped out my microSD card because of how hot it was running. Can't wait to see the next version.

I love this handheld. I bought it to replace my gaming laptop that I didn’t use very much. It supports external displays and can dock to a tv. I have had no problems with it so far and it does well for all the games I play. I have high hopes for the future of these handheld type devices.

I have played 20+ games on the ROG Ally so far all at 1080p 120hz with high and low settings advertising around 60 FPS. The quality and screen of this device is amazing. Yes there are some flaws but can all be addressed with software updates based on my experience as a software engineer. Very happy with this purchase and excited to see what they do with it!

Super great machine for on-the-go gaming. Only big drawback is the battery life but its worth keeping a battery pack with while you are out and about. Plays all my games I want great. Also can get loud fan-wise but can be tuned out.

Fantastic device. Handles everything I've thrown at it like a champ. Amazing speakers, crisp screen, solid build quality. The only issue was wobbly analog sticks, but I looked up a fix online and fixed it easily. Overall a great deal considering I also got it at the open-box price, and it was basically brand new.

If youre looking for just that, a handheld PC. The rog ally is perfect for a pc on the go. I plug in at work and it runs games great. If youre looking for more of a streamlined console handheld and not great with windows. id go with something else like a steamdeck. But the Ally is powerful and will run any game.

Gorgeous, silky smooth screen. Runs OW2 at 120fps with FSR 2.2 upscaling 720p to 1080p at medium settings. I got the official dock along with a razer blackwidow wireless M&K to take advantage of the unified usb dongle. No regrets! Takes a little tinkering to max out FPS in certain games but runs like a champ, especially in turbo mode plugged in.

I bought this as an open box item, and I could not be happier. Besides a little smudge on the edge which wiped off, this thing was brand new. It works great with any game I have played on it. The battery life can go a bit quick, but I also purchased a battery pack, and it keeps it going with no trouble.

Great for gaming on the go. Great performance on double AA titles and indie games. I use it everyday, and as a father of a toddler, the ROG ALLY is my go to whenever i get an itch to game. The portability allows me to game while watching the kid. Awesome buy’

I'm a huge fan of this thing. It has the specs to handle all the xbox gamepass, epic games, and steam games that I've thrown at it. I haven't played my steam deck or switch very much since i got it. The biggest downside is the battery life. You have to keep a battery pack close by if you want to play more than a couple hours at a time untethered.

Purchased for my wife who didn't enjoy the Steam Deck due to size and weight. The ASUS ROG Ally is lighter, more powerful, and also quieter. It plays everything she wants to play from Stardew Valley up to her collection of Assassin Creed games and Hogwarts Legacy. And she loves the smoothness of the high-refresh rate screen. 10/10

2 mods and cpu boost disabled makes for a beast

Strongly advise you know how to get around computers, lots of updates and setting tweaks and YouTube videos to get the most peak/cooling performance. I was 2 seconds away from returning to best buy due to low fps and high temps. But after some research turning off cpu boost from agressive to disabled actually keeps it from burning up to about 70 to 78 playing aaa games. Also 2 mods to the handheld, 2tb ssd 2230 and a heatsink to it reduced overheating temps on ssd by 18 degrees. So dont buy and think it works great out of the box because it doesn't. However after adressing issues I use this more than my pc. In the bed and on the couch is so much easier. P.s.a dont use ssd card for games or at least long time use for heavy demanding games. I just use the 2tb ssd i installed. Overheating your sd card is still a thing.

Know what you're getting when you get devices like these. You can play and run almost about everything on here with the right settings and constantly update your drivers and software. Battery is not that great but i don't expect any portable pc to last longer than 1hr without settings adjustment.

The ROG Ally is a FANTASTIC handheld PC!!! That being said, it is a WINDOWS 11 PC. It comes with all the quirks too. It isn't as plug and play as a Nintendo Switch. If you have a laptop, or desktop PC, the set up for the Ally is the same. However, Armory Crate software adds the console like feel after you install your games. Once set up, it is very easy to use after that. Battery life varies wildly depending on how you are using it. AAA modern games like Battlefield 2042, Cyberpunk, Call of Duty, etc are demanding and chew through the battery. Streaming through Nvidia GeForce Now, PS Plus, and Xbox Cloud Gaming are gentle, and do not demand the higher power settings. Same is true with older less demanding games. So, your experience will vary. Over all, i love this thing and I would highly recommend it to any avid gamer for gaming on the go.
