So far so good!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not a bad handheld gaming device. Plays games decent enough. The screen is very nice. Very vivid colors. Not much to complain about. Windows can be a bit of a nightmare though. Once you get it all updated it runs good.

Great Handheld Gaming PC
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far this little PC is fantastic. I bought it so I could have more gaming ability since my daughter was born a few months ago and it's done exactly what I need it to. Like everything, there are pros and cons. For the Pros: it feels good in the hands and is easy to hold and play for an hour or more, it's a fully functioning PC so you can use every PC gaming platform there is, and once you get the hang of the ASUS overlays, they are pretty useful. The Cons: battery life is not great as you only get 1-1.5 hours with a modern game, it can be finicky about resuming from Sleep mode, and you'll need a dock or adapters to plug in a monitor that doesn't use USB-C. Overall, I've loved this device.

Asus Rog Ally Must buy

ROG Ally Z1E
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got the Z1 Extreme. Performs way beyond expectations. This thing is now my go to for gaming. Battery power really isn’t an issue for me because it’s usually plugged in or docked. Storage could be a tad bigger but there’s an upgrade to the SSD to expand it to 1-2 TBs. Would definitely buy again.

Good but...
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sd card reader is useless. It killed 3 of my sd cards before i figured out why they were dying. One of them was a pretty expensive 512gb. Decided to upgrade to 2tb ssd (the more expensive 2230 m.2 even though there was plenty of room for the cheaper 2280) so its awesome now but such a hassle to upgrade especially since it doesnt install windows unless you adjust the time set correctly in the bios for some reason. I have installed windows on alot of computers. Never had a problem because of incorrect date and time in the bios. Something i had to learn from the youtube comments section after hours of trying to figure out why it wouldnt work. And of course shortly after i bought it they went on sale for $600 and are going for $500 on ebay. Ouch. Im pretty pleased with it though even with the hassle and the flaws.

I like it but has flaws and needs fixes
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Price is close to a PS5 just a bit higher but runs like a champ my only main problems I have is it’s battery life goes fast, windows 11 isn’t really fully equipped for gaming, you have to have the ASUS ROG charger in order to update the console or run games at 30 TDP or what ASUS calls turbo mode, many games are optimized for performance and quality however you won’t get like 8K gaming with Ray tracing unless you use a oculink which cost like another $600-1000, joysticks can get stick drift along the road, and it’s limited to ports however I have many to say that’s good about the ASUS ROG Ally like for instance for a small device the specs are fantastic I am able to run any game on my steam library and it ran NBA 2K22 far better than my Acer Predator Helios 300 that has Nvidia 1060 graphics, the screen makes the device feel smaller than it looks, the fans do a good job not overheating the device, has a good grip, mappable back buttons and It’s survived long gaming sessions with it plugged in. My reason for giving this review 2 stars is because right now im experiencing more problems with it like on the internet many people who bought this product are experiencing an issue with the joystick where it only moves up and down it won’t move left and right some end up having to pay for it and I hope I don’t because I kept it in pristine condition while I used it I’m also having issues with the sd card because it won’t detect it and the windows software is running a little crazy like sometimes the file manager won’t work or apps aren’t starting and steam wont start after I moved games from one computer to another and I wish it came with more storage for the price I bought it at also mine came with all accessories I know because I read what all comes with it when I bought it however this lady on the Best Buy support team lied to me to get me off the phone by saying that the item I bought didn’t come with a charger because it’s open box but I got the excellent condition one I knew it sounded crazy the way she said it but she could’ve just said she doesn’t know and I would’ve asked someone at best buy which needs to be addressed because people who didn’t know how to handle a situation like this would’ve lost $40-$60 worth of a charger also I noticed I had to add a lot of force on the right trigger to shoot in gta 5, when I go to calibrate not only does the left and right not work on the joystick but the right trigger is not messed up too and I want to take picture but it won’t let me upload them

For the average consumer it’s solid
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my ally and I don’t see what the problem is. I know a lot of people complained about the performance but for the average consumer it works perfectly fine for me. I have no issues playing Spider-Man or assassins creed odyssey. Yes it’s battery life isn’t that great but that’s why we have battery banks. Overall happy with my purchase

I like it
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, there are some quirks with this device over the Steam Deck. It is running on Windows 11 alongside an Asus app called armory crate that gives you a lot of control of the system. Unboxing it on day one is going to see you performing hours of updates to Windows, drivers, Asus software, etc... However, once it is all set, it really is a nice device with lots of customization. The main complaint I see is battery life, but if you're ok with being plugged in every hour or two, it's fine. You can drive up the battery life by running at lower wattages and perhaps getting a battery bank. The second thing I see is the SD card issues. I am opting to avoid the SD card slot altogether and instead will upgrade the internal SSD in the future if need be. If you're ok with deleting games you aren't playing, 512GB is fine. Supports all store fronts. More games are compatible on steam since it doesn't need proton. Overall, I am happy with the device.

White screen (reurned)
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not much of a review person, but i thought this would be important to write out for the next person thinking about buying an Ally. I was so excited about this device for many reasons. I chose this over a steam deck and waited for it to come out. I got it, opened it, and turned it on. I waited 5, 10, 20 minutes for the ASUS symbol to go away but i wouldn’t. I hard reset it and it did the same thing. After the 3 rd try, i finally got it to start up past the loading screen. The problem i had now was that it was a white screen & nothing was popping up. I turned it off and on 5,6 times but kept getting this white screen. I shut it off and connected to power for the night. I then went and did some research, but there isnt much out there just yet. Reddit was the most helpful (per usual), but since its only been out a month or two, it was more of a working forum than solution based. The next morning i got up and turned it on. To my surprise, it booted up and let me set up windows. I wasnt going to question it, but i did wonder if that white screen was goibg to become a concern. I downloaded a few games to try after the setup an optimization. Maybe it was just the games i was playing, but it wouldnt recognize the joycons in game. One game i tried playing was 2K 23 PGA - just wanted to see visuals and how it ran. When trying to pull back on the joycon to swing the club, it was just a cursor… no matter what i did, the game wouldnt recognize the difference between a cursor and a club. I backed out of the game and turned it off to run errands and do some more research to see how much of what was happening was user error vs console. When i came back i continued to get the white screen. At that point (24 hours into owning the Ally) i decided to return it. Im a PC gamer and canwork with windows (and all the challenges) pretty well. This, however, was not that. I couldnt play the few games i tried, white screened more times than i can count, and did a good amount of research in a small timespan (to which reddit was more helpful than ASUS). I loved the graphics, the iconic ROG performace dashboard, the quality of the build, and the fact that i could download almost everythibg i wanted + use it for netflix on flights… all in one package. However, many of the basic functions that youd righfully expect a new system to have/work, did not. Overall, the ally is heading in the right direction. Once they can figure out how to make the consol run, theyre in business. P.S. When i returned it at Best Buy the next day, there were six other open allys on their return shelf. I hope this helps someone whos debating their next generation handheld purchase. Shout out to all the reddit people who take time to help their fellow gamers, we appreciate it

This thing is a beast
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have played 20+ games on the ROG Ally so far all at 1080p 120hz with high and low settings advertising around 60 FPS. The quality and screen of this device is amazing. Yes there are some flaws but can all be addressed with software updates based on my experience as a software engineer. Very happy with this purchase and excited to see what they do with it!

Asus Rog Ally
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My review of the Asus Rog ally. I genuinely enjoy using it for gaming. The storage of only 512gb had me a bit worried due to my extensive library across Steam, Ubisoft +, Epic, and xbox game pass but the m.2 is upgradeable to a 2tb M.2 nvme which comes in clutch and you can also add a micro sd card for expandable storage. The resolution of the screen Full 1080P with a 120hz refresh rate is absolutely amazing. I tested it our playing Marvel's Spiderman and Sony's Day Gone and I was truly impressed. The Asus Rog ally comes with 16gb ram so it's able to handle majority of triple A titles, and you're able to multi task. If you're willing to purchase a dock which there many available on Amazon from various manufacturers then you'll be able to connect the steam deck to a monitor and or tv screen for larger screen options, and you're able to connect various accessories to the dock such as external storage options, keyboard, mouse, controllers, etc. You have access to windows and the windows stores for various applications, this beauty is literally a handheld pc. Worth the buy in my opion.

ROG Ally
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Considering between Steam Deck and ROG Ally, I ended up buying this. The machine is amazing. It can even play some demanding games really well. Only downside is the battery life. 1~2 hours is maximum time it will give you. However, I mostly play from home and no more than 2 hour so doesn't bother me.

Screen of champions
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Gorgeous, silky smooth screen. Runs OW2 at 120fps with FSR 2.2 upscaling 720p to 1080p at medium settings. I got the official dock along with a razer blackwidow wireless M&K to take advantage of the unified usb dongle. No regrets! Takes a little tinkering to max out FPS in certain games but runs like a champ, especially in turbo mode plugged in.

A must for travelers or stay-at-home dads
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Besides all of the SD cards failure to read and pour battery life it's a pretty beefy machine worth the 500 that I paid. Also the memory expansion price is ridiculous will not be upgrading anytime soon for 1/3 of the price of the unit

Packs a punch!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I didn’t expect to enjoy the ROG Ally as much as I do. It runs GTA V and Hogwarts Legacy super smooth, especially with the upscaling. I was honestly surprised how good it looked and felt on a handheld. It’s wild having that kind of power in something I can take anywhere. I barely touch my main setup anymore. If you’ve been thinking about getting one, just do it. Totally worth it.

Lives up to the hype
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a huge fan of this thing. It has the specs to handle all the xbox gamepass, epic games, and steam games that I've thrown at it. I haven't played my steam deck or switch very much since i got it. The biggest downside is the battery life. You have to keep a battery pack close by if you want to play more than a couple hours at a time untethered.

Best value handheld
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It might not have the bigger battery or the more ram/V ram, but it’s still super super cool to have everything on the go. Especially with this specific product the Z one extreme check will handle anything you want on the go. The screen is fine enough just wish it was a little bigger, especially with those big bales. Nothing bad to say about it.

Great purchase
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fantastic device. Handles everything I've thrown at it like a champ. Amazing speakers, crisp screen, solid build quality. The only issue was wobbly analog sticks, but I looked up a fix online and fixed it easily. Overall a great deal considering I also got it at the open-box price, and it was basically brand new.
