Excellent unit, pretty powerful once optimized (1080p not needed for this screen size). Gotta love the RGB too!

Overall ROG Ally was a good first attempt by Asus on a gaming handheld. Performance was great and easy enough to upgrade SSD. Only downside was specific to my use case - planning to use as my work system while travelling. 7" screen is just too small for doing work and just requires you to bring 2nd larger screen - which then defeats the purpose of a mobile setup. The GPD Max 2 and even Legion Go are better options for this hybrid use case.

Plays any game that windows can play which puts it ahead of the Steam Deck. Battery life could be better and a few bugs which most new devices will encounter. Portable entertainment device for the avid gamer and a full windows experience.

I love my Ally, however, the issues with the SD card slot took a star away. The slot is right beneath one of the heat sinks and got fried, im pretty sure my slot is non functional as it keeps running into disk read errors on steam. Thankfully the SD card itself seems okay. I will just have to upgrade the on board SSD to a 2TB model. The second star was taken away because the battery life is lacking, however the form factor is easy to take anywhere and the charger is portable. Hopefully theyll release a battery upgrade kit which I would be happy to purchase. All in all solid handheld PC. Hope they release parts cause this thing seems super repairable.

Very great handheld, when you’re connected, it turns into a beast

Love the ROG Ally. I enjoy gaming but find I do not have as much time to play at home on a PC or console. This brings PC gaming with you in a portable format with decent PC performance. It is not a high end game PC, but it is decent enough to run most games at mid/lower settings very well.

Oh man. After wrestling with the decision to pick one of these up for a few weeks I finally pulled the trigger and I'm glad I did. This little bugger is shockingly powerful. So far I've tested; Cyberpunk 2077 - I used Steam Deck presets then nudged a few settings up, even some light ray tracing. Consistent 40fps average. Like A Dragon: Gaiden - 50+fps with all settings maxed Baldur's Gate 3 - mostly high settings with a few things bumped down, plays great. Cutscenes look as good as they do on my desktop. The Witcher 3 - can do high preset with no changes or ultra with a few things bumped down to med/high, consistent 40+fps. Don't even touch ray tracing, instant sub-20fps. All in all, this thing is a beast. My only complaints so far are with the controller; buttons sometimes stick a little bit (they might be a little loose in the case) and the sticks feel a little floaty. Very comfortable otherwise.

I travel quite regularly and initially purchased this to use while traveling, however, I quickly realized that this small device is quite capable at home as well. The screen is small, so when a prompt for a game pops up it may be difficult to read the available actions or responses. I have recommended this to a couple of friends who have had laptops fail recently as an alternative to an expensive laptop. Obviously, it is not going to be a powerful, workhorse gaming system, however, it is very capable. I have used this plugged into my 49" widescreen through a KVM and even there it has been very capable. Last thought, plan on buying a larger hard drive since the 512GB it comes with is not very large.

As a handheld lover I have put tons of hours into this device. The battery life and SD card issue leave some things to be desired but Ive had very few issues with this thing.

Took a while to get everything set up but after that it ran all my games smoothly. Happy with my purchase

I liked it at first. I want to like it but the battery life is terrible, it's not great and has stutters, it's lacking in places I assume newer models are more well rounded. I sold mine after having it 7 months

Works great but gets hot. I've heard the heat can damage sd cards bit I've never experienced that.

lovely light weight handheld and requires a lot of time to tweak by hand. This is not a steam deck if you learn how to tweak you will get better performance and better battery life. Here are some example: A typical AAA game requires at leart 25w to 30w power to run 6o fps. But you will see the device struggles to balance the power between cpu and igpu. You need to learn how to lock your cpu and igpu frequency. For most of the AAA games, a good setting shall be cpu: 2.5 to 3ghz, igpu 2ghz. A medium or low setting game usually targets 15 w power. You shall set cpu to 2.2 to 2.8ghz, igpu 1.4ghz. A medium 2d or light 3d game shall target a 10 to 12 w power. You shall set cpu to 1.5 to 2 ghz, igpu 0.8 to 1.0ghz A light weight 2d game target 7 to 8 w. cpu 1.5 ghz, igpu 0.6 ghz. And if you limit the fps to static 60fps or lower, you should have a smoother and battery saving experience.

I like the ability to play Steam games and other platform games, great graphics all for a reasonable price.

So I tend to over research everything to find the biggest bang for my buck. This is it! If you're considering this vs the base vs the more expensive Ally X I cannot recommend this enough. It has the same processor and screen as the X with a smaller battery and less RAM. That's it, get a large external battery for cheap that has a PD port of about 65w or more and you can play this thing nearly all day. Performance is amazing and it can even function as a desktop PC with some setup. Get it!!!!

For their first handheld PC I’m very pleased with the performance from this APU. Anyone complaining about performance is obviously not familiar with APUs. This is extremely powerful for what it is. Would I use it as my only gaming device NO. I have PC for that but to be able to pick up where I left on from my main system is worth it in itself! I’ve been running Red Dead Redemption 2 at 900p low setting (ultra textures) and stay at around 35-40 fps. The game still looks great on such a small display. All in all not really worth it if you plan to make it your main gaming device (at least for newer AAA titles) but for older less demanding games this will crush whatever you can throw at it!

Plays great, for a short period of time. AAA titles will give you roughly 1-1.5 hours of playtime, so far so good! Typically im playing during my lunch break and an hour is just the right amount

Excelente to play games but the battery is to short, only long about 1 hour

Pretty much a compact gaming computer. Display is unbelievable. Some issues with built-in controls on the more processor involved games. Going on vacation with me. Only draw back is battery life

Way better sceeen than the steam deck, way better color accuract, saturation and contrast. Performance is about 20% better than the Steam Deck at the same 15W power usage. The software side is still a bit buggy but shiild improve overtime
