If you have a steam deck and want the ally, it would be like upgrading from a gtx 1660 to an rtx 3050 ti. The jump in fps is mind boggling. Beamng runs monster trucks at around a solid 50 fps on any map, bo3 gets around 70/80 on everything maxed, modern warfare 2019 gets 60 fps on high settings and spider man remastered gets 30/40 fps on high settings and because it’s amd, the graphics chip hasn’t even reached its full potential and is nowhere near reaching its full potential as the device is so new. After lots of updates, it will be able to run pretty much anything you throw at it. Very good device and have been absolutely loving it so far.

Where's the ROG XG Mobile suggestions

Compared to a steam deck, it is noticeably smaller and lighter which minimizes fatigue to the wrists. The faster refresh rate on the small screen seems to ease the strain of focusing your eyes on fast moving scenes. I was not offered to purchase an ROG XG Mobile eGPU Dock which bothered me somewhat at the time as the prices for them on ASUS website was not the same as in store. It can be a very vital component in the productive use of this handheld and essentially unlocks the potential of the device as both a powerful 8 core 16 thread DDR5 computational machine and a portable home entertainment device which can fully utilize the high refresh rates of modern televisions. My ROG Ally will completely replace my entire home desktop and have a smaller footprint as well as use less electricity overtime with just the addition of an ASUS - ROG XG Mobile eGPU Dock - AMD Radeon RX 6850 XT in particular which has the HDMI 2.1 so that i would be able to run an LG C2 at 120Hz, and also a QHD monitor via display port

What the rog ally does with windows to make it a portable experience is really good. Like all new things it takes time to get used to. I had a steam deck when it first launched, enjoyed every bit of it. Yes some things you cannot do on linux but it was still a great experience. Now going to the ally for the first time as a windows user was so easy. They really took some time and polished the handheld experience on windows. I would say if your a windows user, then the rog ally is simple to get started with gaming on windows on the go.

    It's pretty decent

Ally is pretty decent. There are some bizarre QA issues and running Windows occasionally dictates doing a random restart to get things working again, but I can't complain too much. Battery life is laughably bad, making launch day Switch seem like a top tier battery. Most games just work though, and it has enough power in the highest W profile mode to run a lot of fairly demanding games at low settings. Your mileage will vary here, though, depending on what your expectations are. If you have no PC and prefer this form factor, it's a good purchase. If you have a laptop, PC, or Steam Deck, it's hard to recommend.

If you are familiar with using Windows OS then you should not have any problems using this device. Powerful handheld device and works great on the go. That said, be sure to bring a power brick with you as the battery life on this device suffers, which is expected due to the form factor.

Excellent for gamers on the go a lot. Very impressed with how well it ran games of different genres. The console is very comfortable to hold. The only real mild complaint I have is that the battery life. Depending on the game and settings the battery can drain somewhat quickly.

[Employee of bestbuy] I really enjoy everything so far about the Ally. It’s doing everything I wanted it for. It runs Fallen Order and Baldur’s Gate at a playable FPS. Only thing to bare in mind is the battery life could be better, but that’s about it

Great first attempt at a gaming handheld

Overall ROG Ally was a good first attempt by Asus on a gaming handheld. Performance was great and easy enough to upgrade SSD. Only downside was specific to my use case - planning to use as my work system while travelling. 7" screen is just too small for doing work and just requires you to bring 2nd larger screen - which then defeats the purpose of a mobile setup. The GPD Max 2 and even Legion Go are better options for this hybrid use case.

Powerful handheld device. Setup can be tricky and some things are a bit finicky but overall, it plays all my games I want to play at reasonable settings with a gorgeous screen, great sound and meh battery life (though that doesn’t bother me at all). I’ve had zero issues since I got it.

Great handheld device, was deciding between this and the steam deck. Glad I went with the Ally, I prefer the versatility versus being confined to steam games only. With the ally, you're able to use different launchers such as xbox games, EA, and ubisoft to name a few. Of course, since it does run Windows 11 the Ally does support Steam as well. Also appreciate being able to add memory with a micro SD card since the Ally only comes with 500GB and games nowadays can take up more than 50GB per install. Only issue is battery life but that's expected due to the power draw of trying to run the latest games. If you're looking to play more than an hour on battery then this may not be the right fit. I don't mind it since I'm usually near an outlet but I could see how it can be annoying since it defeats the purpose of it being portable.

This does everything the steam deck can do and more due to it being full windows 11, game performance has been great. The only problem is the horrible battery life, be prepared to carry a battery pack or just stay close to an outlet.

The ROG Ally is the best, i absolutely love it. I built my own pc around feb this year and eventually it stopped allowing me to play games, then the Ally came out and its amazing. The graphics is very nice, its fast. The battery dies fast but i usually keep it plugged in if im gaming.

Pr order my ally on announcement day. Best handheld gaming rig by far. I do not own a steam deck, I did not like steams software (personal reasons) and they launched with terrible specs. I do own backbone and Cloud system. The Ally has solved many problems I’ve had over the years trying to get “mobile” PC gaming. ROG Ally is awesome. My two issues why not 5* as everyone else, battery life, however I knew going into and will be connected to a wall most of the time with my 9’ foot cable. Second, RAM. Why oh why ASUS did you not put 32gb or allow upgrade. 16gb too low for gaming and experience crashing due to other systems not having enough RAM. All in all, happy to see the bar set decently High, for other competitors.. give us more RAM and upgradable analog sticks.

I've been really impressed with this handheld. I've thrown a lot at it and barely had any issues. Once you tweak the settings a bit, it'll run anything like a beast. I tend to keep it plugged in since I'm not a huge traveller, so it substitutes my gaming PC when I'm too lazy to get my butt out of bed. Asus' support seems to be neverending. They seem passionate about pushing this product and I'm glad to see a company supporting something so heavily. I immediately upgraded my SSD because 512gb is hardly enough, i do wish they would've went the same route as Valve or Lenovo with offering higher memory options, but the process of upgrading is so easy it kind of doesn't matter. (Unless you're a real stickler about it.) I was skeptical at first, being my first handheld and all. But I don't regret this purchase at all. Great job Asus!

The Rog Ally has alot of specs that look better on paper but when you are using the device the cons start to show. The steam deck is a much more comfortable device its very apparent when picking up one device and then the other. The rog just seems like looks was more focused on than the actual hand-fit of the device. Battery life on rog ally is terrible. Be prepared to always be plugged in. Could be due to windows. The steam deck is easily getting 50% more battery while gaming. Steam os is great and hopefully we can get it on ally soon. If you have a steam deck KEEP it and if you want a handheld go for steam deck as the rog ally is still a bit experimental. The steam deck is a more practical device at the moment also being a few hundred cheaper
