Rog ally z1 extreme
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the z1 extreme while it was on sale. 100 $ off. Highly recommend this version if your doing more than indie gaming. Amongst my vast steam and Ubisoft libraries of games only one game has not worked with the control pad and requires keyboards and mouse. I’m sure someone more familiar could figure it out. The build is good though I wish there was more palm grip. A bit more meat to hold onto. Fixing that with a case from skull n co. Hearing of the potential as card failure problems I immediately updated to the 2 tb max ssd. So no problems losing data. Highly recommend this. Fix was not difficult with a cheap tool kick with some picks to pry it apart gently. I enjoy the windows software so far. Not really any issues.

Plays Starfield
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love the Ally. Works great. Like the title says I can play starfield. It plays well no stuttering or issues. You can't play at the higher graphic settings but it looks great on the 7 inch screen.

Powerful device with many flaws/bugs
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I do like the ROG Ally a lot. It is sleek and powerful and can play most of my games at decent settings. However, this first gen product from Asus has many flaws: 1) The SD card reader tends to fail very often (even with the latest updates) 2) The buttons sometimes get stuck 3) The joystick wears down quite easily because of the sharp edges of the RGB slot. You will find black paint in the RGB rings from the rubbing

Awesome Product, Okay Software
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great device if you game on Windows. I'd love to see better implementation of a physical keyboard and the SD heating issues fixed but these are relatively minor things to deal with for the portability. A custom fan curve seems to really help this thing run better with an SD card in but I still often face slowness with it. These complaints still didn't keep me from buying a 2nd for my wife though. As far as comparison to the steam deck, I think working around the quirks of windows is worth it to play any game versus only steam deck verified games. Armory crate could use better integration but maybe software updates will get rolled out soon. The choice seemed pretty clear to me.

Amazing little handheld game console
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a steam deck too and I personally like the ASUS Rog Ally more. The ASUS Rog Ally is a mini handheld gaming computer. I just like that I don't need to bring my gaming laptop with me anymore because I can just use the handheld now. Despite hearing that the buttons were bad, I've had no issues with the buttons yet. None of the buttons were stuck or hard to push when I used it. I heard that there is no sleep mode and the system goes into the lock screen when the power button is pressed or the black screen shows when the system is idle. I turned the settings on the lowest since I heard the battery does not last long. So far, the battery has lasted for a long time but I guess that is because I was just playing Left 4 Dead 2 for starters. I heard games like Resident Evil 4 Remake will drain the battery fast. I like the lights on the analog sticks when the system is turned off.

almost there
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.hardware: overall checks most boxes. current gen cpu, very good display, great controls, solid storage and ram offering. amazing heat/fan management, can barely hear it unless you really stress the system; even then, it handles most things like a champ. software: windows 11 is windows, so there's no real complaint there. armory crate is abit janky. sometimes pulling up the armory menu, there's lag. some of the settings didnt really make too much sense. overall: the way i see it, it's a great bang for the buck mini pc with controller attached. i think if armory crate improves and windows 11 creates a new ui for games like steam big picture, this will be a phenomenal machine!

Worth the purchase, keep it realistic
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had this a few weeks now and can say it was worth the money for me. I have not explored too much of the capabilities outside of gaming via Steam games and Epic. Typing on it has to be one of my biggest pet peeves. I’ve needed to force open the keyboard and have had other issues trying to type. Battery life is decent for the quality it can run off battery. While ok charge it runs very smooth when having settings turned more toward performance. Keep an honest view of it and I think you’ll be very satisfied.

Mobile FPS Gaming
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can play destiny 2 at 720p around 70-90 FPS. Wonderful Playing older titles at 60+ FPS is nice as well. I would recommend upgrading the SSD at some point if you play a lot of different games, as 512gb is pretty lacking. You will need a 2230 NVME.

Where gaming is at, it excels
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s very strong and an excellent addition in the advancement of portable gaming. It’s powerful and does a lot of the important things right such as power, cooling, noise. But there are issues that most people would agree on in user interface and ease of access. It’s essentially windows 11 which has it’s pros and faults and while the armor crate UI I honestly think is strong, a lot does get left to be desired because of how it feels like it is dependent on keyboard and mouse optimization. But being real, you buy ut to play games and it plays them amazingly, very strong in a wide variety of platforms because of that windows 11 help and as a game pass machine it works amazing.

Excellent for experienced PC tinkerers.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a very experienced long-time PC tinkerer. I am used to setting up computers, laptops, etc to get them to an absolutely perfect state. So getting this thing to a state where I really enjoyed using it was no problem for me. I also own a Steam Deck. That was pretty much ready to go almost instantly. It's a much more user-friendly device and most people should choose it instead. On top of a much better UI, it also has touch pads and a gyro sensor, meaning it has more control options. That being said, if you are experienced at tinkering with PCs, putting up with the Ally's downsides is 100% worth it to get the much more powerful APU (graphics and processor) and MUCH nicer screen.

Better performance than steam deck
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love it. Only thing that needs work is the interface. That's more on windows. Windows needs a handheld dedicated version. Also a short battery life when pushing the graphics. Games run great.

Absolutely garbage windows infested junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this on a cross country trip as i forgot my dock for my switch. This should not be asvertised as a gaming handheld. Its freaking windows 11. Horrible os. Plauged with same junk update after update u get on a pc. Bloated down on a weak handheld draining excess battery life. Not to mention when logging in it tried to sync to my home pc. Like why would anyone in the right mind want to sync a dinky 512gb hand held device to their home pc and waste massive amounts of space and time downloading useless programs for a hand held. Not designed with gaming 1st in mind. Windows needs to just stop. I despise apple and only use windows on pc but this is just invasive and inappropriate for a hand held. Cut all the bloated os crap and focus on gaming only. Period. If i wanna install office ill do it myself

PERFECT if you're okay with tinkering
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As someone who enjoys the tinkering and customizing aspect of setting up a new computer or device, personally i give this product a full 5 stars. If you're buying this with the expectation of jumping in and just gaming, then I'd suspect your rating might be closer to a 3.5 or 4. It is a great gaming device and more capable than the Steam Deck just about all around, but you have to remember it is a Windows device at the end of the day. That inevitably means dealing with Windows annoyances like popups, potentially malware/warnings if you arent careful about what you download and from where. Go watch some reviews and current videos on this device to see how it is, and how far its come. It isnt and likely wont ever be as "console-like" easy to use and set up as the Steam Deck or a Nintendo Switch, but hell if it isnt a powerful piece of kit!

Easy Pickup
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easily one of the better purchases I’ve made in a while. Easy to setup and game right out of the box. Can play lots (but definitely not all) of modern titles. Only down side is poor battery life depending on what you’re doing. But if you want a powerful gaming handheld this is easily the one to grab.

Windows is biggest thing wrong with this
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Windows, which was the main reason i bought the ally, is actually the worst part of the rog ally. Touch screen Windows is just very hard to use compared to steam deck. Also the keyboard should allow you to use the not sticks to type on the keyboard similar to steam deck but instead you have to take your hands off the edges of the ally and hold it on one hand while you touch keys on the ally keyboard. The screen looks fantastic and the sound system is great. But the above issues plus it just isn't as comfortable to hold as the steam deck.
