Powerful handheld computer

You could even technically replace a desktop computer if you buy a XG mobile. I replaced my steam deck by the Ally, since I dint want to have to make tweaks to play games, but of you are a console player used to the plug and play experience, maybe this is not for you. Remember, this is a handheld computer with Windows. The Asus interface installed in it works but it is not perfect and SD reader may be a problem. So long story short, it depends on your use case.

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.As an owner of ps5 and switch, I was hoping that I can easily download games on ally and play them without playing around with settings much. But turned out that it’s more complax than playing games on my 4090 pc. Many of terriablely optimized games like gta III definitive edition would suffer to run at 1080p 60 fps even with everything set to low or off. You would also have to try different settings to get a sweet spot of both graphics and frame rate. But generally speaking, it’s still an amzing device. I use it mainly to stream from ps5, it will have to run an older version of remote play and with software to trick remote play to think that I’m using a ps4 controller.

If you want a hand-held pc then you love it. It has common pc issue youll have to problem solve but gaming in bed/couch is awesome.

My SD Card Reader broke on August 18. I updated the bios, drivers, etc. as they became available but the card reader still failed. Lucky my cards still work, just the reader broke. This is a common issue that was supposed to be fixed with a bio/fan curve update. Bummer those updates didn't work for me. Hoping the can return it quickly.

Problems include overheating SD card reader over heating battery not holding charges bios version being limited due to 335 being a total lag fest etc. however the problems I’ve encountered are bios version 335 being so laggy the device is completely rendered useless and windows would need to be reinstalled and bios version downgraded. The device did not hold a charge without being plugged in after a period of 3 weeks of usage. Device would not charge past 84% either. Right out of the box in the armory crate stream app did not function correctly and had to be completely removed and reinstalled did not detect apps until I update windows and bios version to 334. I like ASUS products however this thing was a total failure for me. Don’t take my word for it maybe it will work for you so go pay Best Buy a nice 600-700$ for this thing :)

Windows 11 not meant for these kinds of devices. Get a lot of lag and new 319 ally bios reduced performance by 22%. Need better software support and it would be amazing. Only time will tell if asus can get there act together

Games runs smoother in Windows 11 just ensure it is up to date and drivers, as well are current. BIOS version 319 was released to optimized system stability and performance, if you are experiencing issues, please verify the game settings and system is up to date.

It’s way more powerful then I originally thought for gaming and productivity. Heck i’ve even been using Premiere on it to edit and color grade video!

I got a good condition open box and the sd card reader never worked and it seems like one of the fans is going out. If you get it open box it’s probably a good deal I heard there’s a new revision with better quality now so pay attention to what build date you have
