Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The Ally is ok but unlike the steam deck, you can’t just turn it on and start playing games there’s way too much fiddling with windows. After initial set up and updates, the unit restarted windows crashed to the blue screen, and I was stuck in that loop I had to go into the Bios restore windows from Asus cloud server which took a couple of hours. Also, there is a lot of windows programs that wast space. Ive played Halo for a couple hours and it doesn’t run nearly as smooth  as it does on the SD i’m sure you can fiddle with settings to make it run better but in my opion you shouldn’t have to. I will be returning and hanging onto the deck for a while.  Also the Ally feels very small and cheap It’s not nearly as comfortable as the SD the grips are very thin. The screen looks beautiful though.

It's regrettable to hear you've encountered issues with your ROG Ally. Please know that you can run Steam in Big Picture mode and enable controller support in Steam to help with setting up the Ally with Steam. To improve gaming performance, set your system to Turbo mode. Other than that, you would need to make sure you're caught up on any pending updates on Armoury Crate and Windows update. The extra money goes into processing (look up reviews to see the difference). This is the best Windows handheld gaming device, hands down, without compromise. Careful about using the SD card without adjusting temperature settings though! There's known issues where it can overheat without adjusting fan curves. Luckily Asus makes this really easy to do with the ArmoryCrate software.

Unfotunately I ended up returning it because it didnxt add anything new to my gaming experience except forcwd me to play on controller. I still prefer desktop gaming although gaming in bed was lit. I'd recomend as far as hamdhelds go, i just don't personally like handheld formfactor

He was only able to really play the one game he had but the others needed a wifi connection and yes you can use a hotspot but it goes much slower. Due to this I have it 4 stars. He still enjoyed it and once getting to where we were he could play all games . Still occupied him on a 10 hour drive for part of the time. Would recommend but buy the case
