Best handheld PC you can buy to date
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.ASUS did a excellent job for their first try in handheld PC market Pros: Excellent landscape VRR 120Hz screen , I can’t say enough great things about the screen it’s that good . Great colors , very bright and just the right resolution. This is a close second but the fans are amazingly quiet again compared to other handheld gaming PC’s , I’ve tried them all from GPD, OneNet , AYA even AOKZOE and this is by far the best when it comes to keeping thing quiet and cool. Controls are also great Cons: Battery life isn’t the greatest and depending on wattage used except between a bit over and hour (25W) to just under 2 hours at (15W) haven’t test silent mode ( 10W ) as the games Ive tried don’t run great in that profile . SD card failures are a thing with ALLY, while I have yet to run into this particular issue with my unit I know a few that it has failed , not sure if its the reader or heat but if that’s a important feature expect the unexpected. ASUS has a sometimes good and sometimes bad job with BIOS updates,317 was good then they rolled out 319 that reduced performance until we got a graphics update for the Z1E and everything is back where it should be , 322 not sure if I should uograde or not because everything runs great right now . To piggy back on that MyASUS app is very annoying and constantly asking for you to upgrade to the latest BIOS but I’m good for now ASUS you don’t have to annoy me every time I turn my ALLY on . Bezels are also kind of huge , doesn’t bother me much but can see if other people find them off putting Things that can use improvement: Armoury Crate I can take it or leave it , I’m knowledgeable enough to use other programs that can do the same exact things it does better but for first time PC gamers works decent enough also the real time stat reader can be a big wonky and sometimes works sometimes not. Pretty convenient for TDP control and the RGB lighting but usually leave the RGB off because it does nothing for me personally, your miles may vary Personally I would buy another no questions asked and it’s by far better than the AYA 2S/Geek 1S , OXP 2 and GPD Win 4 ( I consider the GPD Max 2 more of a mini laptop than handheld but again that’s subjective ) Also wish they made a Pro model with 32GBs of RAM double the storage and in Black , while the White looks pretty sleek Im generally not a fan of White electronics Is it perfect ? Definitely not but better than all the other China based handheld manufacturers that have dubious quality control and virtually no customer service ( I know from first hand experience ) that are much more expensive

Posted .Dear Jonathan,
We sincerely apologize for the performance issues you've faced with the ROG Ally and the inconvenience caused. This is definitely not the kind of quality to expect from ASUS products and it is not the norm. At ASUS, we take quality control, testing, and inspections seriously to ensure our products meet high standards. Customer satisfaction is our top priority, and we strive to make every purchase enjoyable.
Based on the issue described, we recommend updating the BIOS. It is recommended to download and update the BIOS and firmware for system performance optimization. The update takes a few minutes, please do not turn off your computer during the process to avoid a critical problem that the system cannot be turned on.

Awesome Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, a really cool product. I'll start off by saying that the two biggest cons for me is initial set up, and (the big one) battery life. Coming from a playstation owner, and someone who has never owned a PC, it took a little bit of asking around and research to set up and figure out things that may be simple for other people that may have experience in this field (gamepad vs keyboard mode, figuring out which games were compatible with the controller, figuring out all of the settings like vibration, setting up shortcuts etc.). If you have experience in this field and/or tech savvy then it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out. However, I could see how someone who's never owned a PC could get frustrated with initial setup. Most games require the higher setting to play and you can really only play those games about an hour on full charge. There are a few settings you can adjust to help save some battery life like brightness for example, however some of these games just require the highest quality playing modes that it some adjusted settings don't make a difference. As far as the product itself, goes the controller part feels really nice but the grip will take a little bit of getting used to depending on what you normally play (playstation, xbox etc.) The screen is crystal clear and looks awesome. The speakers are great. If you so choose, it can get pretty loud for such a small device. Having the ability to play some triple A games at your fingertips is a great. If we had the capabilities to play longer periods of time without being hooked up to a wall it would be fantastic.

Awesome
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best handheld purchase so far. Having the Steam Deck and loving it, i was skeptical that the Ally would disappoint me just like it disappointed many others. I decided to get extended return window through Best Buy’s premium memberships just to give me time to deliberate between keeping this and getting the Legion Go. … Within The first few days, I had decided to keep it, applied a skin for it, bought accessories for it… I guess I’m keeping it? Running windows (and all its problems) was just familiar and ASUS’ controller software just works. Ive always built my PCs as if they were consoles so I just felt at home using my preferred controller setup. But the biggest perk for Windows is the convenience of games running as they should. Rune Factory 5, on steam deck cannot recognize the controller so to this day it only displays keyboard controls. There will be tweaking software to your liking and customizing, but that is part of the fun (ahem-ulators!!)! All in all, i would have sold my Deck if I really needed to afford this. But since I love quality handheld devices, I would keep them both and use the deck for reliable consistency and have the light and ergonomic Ally for more powerful applications. Battery life does really suck though. It’s good for each normal session but since I usually am playing FFXIV on the tiny thing, expect me to be on it for an extensive amount of time. So i keep a battery pack nearby. I would have enjoyed a second USBC port though! For the charging and a portable ssd or AR glasses. Super easy to change the SSD as well. I had modded in a heat sink for the 2TB SSD i installed. She’s a keeper for me.

A dream machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best handheld gaming experience ever. The screen is gorgeous and clear, the buttons feel great, and most games run phenomenally. This might not be ideal for someone who is not familiar with pcs as the customizations could be confusing, but that was my favorite part. It takes a little bit of setup and updating but once you get in game its all worth it as you can hit buttery smooth performance in turbo mode on alot of modern games. It'll also run older games like lightwork and alot of them run at 120 hz. Highly recommend.

Its good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought it today after alot of research, guy at the counter had to warn my its not 4k, and all its flaws but i bought it anyway. The screen is great, its 1080p but its 120hz, its smooth and its a lot bigger than it looks in the pictures. Ive played Fortnite with ray tracing with no issues and a few other games. I love the portability. Is it a console replacement? No. But its a great way to play some games on the go and if your like me busy most the time with a family its a great way to get some gaming on the go. I love the full windows as well. Its nice to have everything in your hands. I highly reccomend it to anyone who wants a portable gaming experience but doesnt want to spend thousands of dollars on a laptop or pc Only reason its not 5 stars is its not going to replace a console or a pc. You will always get the best experience on that but for something to take around and play most games its a must have!

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Are you looking for a gaming handheld that has a stunningly beautiful display with no tearing or stuttering? Look no further than the ASUS ROG Ally 7" 120Hz FHD 1080p Gaming Handheld - AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme Processor - 512GB. This device has a 7-inch 1080p full HD touchscreen display with a smooth 120hz refresh rate and AMD FreeSync premium. It also has blazing fast memory with 16GB LPDDR5 6400 RAM. The device is powered by the latest and greatest AMD Ryzen mobile processors for the ROG Ally. They are called Z1 and Z1 Extreme, respectively, and the Z1 Extreme in our review unit is pretty much the new Ryzen 7 7840U (AMD Phoenix, 4 nm, Zen4), but more on that later. This means there should be a considerable performance advantage over the Steam Deck. I've been using this device for a while now and I have to say, I'm impressed. The display is crisp and clear, and the games run smoothly without any lag or stuttering. The device is also very lightweight and easy to carry around, making it perfect for gaming on the go. I play Steam, Windows, Xbox, as well as any Windows games I throw at it. The battery life is also impressive. I was able to get around **6 hours** of continuous use out of it before needing to recharge. The device also comes with a variety of ports including USB-C, HDMI, and headphone jack. This makes it easy to connect to other devices such as TVs or headphones. Overall, I would highly recommend the ASUS ROG Ally 7" 120Hz FHD 1080p Gaming Handheld - AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme Processor - 512GB to anyone looking for a high-quality gaming handheld. It's definitely worth the investment!

Better than you'd think
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To give an honest review, it's a part of the first generation of handheld PC's so it's not without it's flaws. To keep it simple any issues that you could have on a desktop or laptop, you can have on this. You'll also need to invest in 65w+ chargers and power banks to use this in the go. Also there's only a 512gb storage option so with the size of these games you may want to expand. I have a 2tb (I use mine as a console) I have 30 games downloaded and a quarter of the space left. With that being said, performance on most games is phenomenal and a fully functional PC in your hands is more useful than you'd think. The community support is amazing where Asus is lacking as well, plenty of mod options and tutorials. Probably going to skip on the X version coming out but I'll more than likely be purchasing the 2.

Pretty Good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Even though this runs windows 11, it is best as a dedicated gaming device. Cyberpunk 2077 lasted maybe 1.5 hours with the both the game & device settings cranked to low and the frames capped at 60fps, I did not get or expect 60fps out of cyberpunk, I got closer 40fps. if you run less intense games the battery life can last about 4 hours depending on settings. Its great for flights as many airlines & airports now have full power outlets & usb charging in the seats/waiting areas. its good device if your travelling a lot and don't have the budget for a gaming laptop. Personally I don't travel enough to justify this device but I did enjoy it while I had it. Long story short the more graphically intense the game the less battery life and performance you will get regardless of the settings. So keep that in mind with the games you intend to play while on the go.
