Best purchase ever!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was the best purchase ever. It plays all the games i like to play at 1080p with medium to high settings at about 60FPS. The power paired with the size makes this an absolute beast for on the go gaming. On top of that your not limited to just your steam library like certain devices. The audio from the speakers is the best I've heard from built in speakers and the screen is perfect for handheld gaming when your out and about. there's hardly any glair from the sun and it is bright enough to see everything that's going on in your game on even the sunniest of days. But don't worry if you plan on using this at night because you can dim the screen enough so it doesn't feel like your staring into the sun. I can not speak highly enough of the ROG Ally. I highly recommend

The standard of gaming tech keeps getting better.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really enjoy what this is able to do. Great for traveling since im on the go so much but also great for docking and displaying on a monitor or tv for some casual play. Note: if you are wanting to play competitive games on it you should be weary, Call of Duty, Overwatch, and other demanding titles might not bode well on this processor. It works really well but sometimes has a hard time keeping up with highly demanding games. But that is not what you are buying it for, you are buying it to have something on the go. From experience with other handhelds this one does it well and above everyone else. Also the updates to it have provided better ease of use. Also look into the microSD card issues before buying and see if that is a trade off you are willing to be fine with. The comfortability of the controller itself is awesome. Haven't had a cramping hand yet. My only gripe is 500GB of storage. That gets eaten up in today's gaming world.

Love it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got it day one and love it ever since. The only thing that sucks about this device is the battery and it only has 512 SSD but luckily you can upgrade the SSD and add a microSD easily. very powerful device. Update everything before you use it when you get it. Best portable gaming device ever.

Better choice than steam deck, no regrets!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was a tough choice between the Steam deck OLED and the Rog Ally (Z1 Extreme), but I am glad I went with the Ally. All the negative review points about Windows clunkiness seemed so overblown. This is powerful. Persona 3 R at 60 FPS on 15watt (middle power setting). The SD card issue is real, Asus has acknowledged it, but it's irrelevant because SD card read speed is slow so you shouldn't be using them anyways. Better off replacing the SSD with a 2TB, like 160 bucks. Only negative I have is that on 30watt turbo it expels a lot of heat. Like a lot. I have to turn down the AC to compensate. But 15watt works fine. If you need 39watt to play it, you probably shouldn't be playing it on a handheld.

Best PC handheld
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely love this thing. Better suited for PC gamers for sure as you need to have knowledge of windows and how to tweak system settings of gpus, cpus, power draw, fan curves, system bios, monitor your temps etc. If that kind of stuff is over your head, just get a switch or steamdeck as they are for more simple people. But since im a PC guy this is no problem for me. Ive had no issuees and this thing performs like a dream. The buttons, D-pad and sticks all feel great to me. Screen is beautiful. I can get 120fps on older games and 70-90fps on turbo mode on some newer racing games. My only con is the XG Mobile is the only egpu supported and they are super expensive. They should make one of them, like the 6850m cheaper than the actual device to be fair.

Incredible and Terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG Ally is incredible because it is so small and powerful! As a professional Fortnite player, I decided to try this for when I am not at my main setup. Unfortunately, there are numerous reasons why it is also terrible. The incredible things are that you can play Fortnite on all low settings with 120 FPS! It is unstable and can drop to 100 but is still playable. You can also access the web as if you were on a PC. The terrible things on the ROG Ally can definitely ruin your gaming experience. There is a USB-C port that is meant for charging and a headphone jack for audio. In my opinion, a USB port is the most common for your peripherals, such as a keyboard, mouse, and controller. You will have to use those things wireless, which can cause an annoying delay when playing games. Why can't there be a USB port? You can connect a PS5 controller to the USB-C port, but then you can't charge when you play. Playing games while charging the ROG Ally is basically crucial because the battery life is less than 90 minutes when playing games on the Turbo operating mode. When you don't use Turbo Mode, you won't get a lot of FPS in games. If you don't charge it while playing, Turbo Mode's watts go down by five, meaning that it uses even less power. Also, the fan can get loud on demanding games, protecting the very hot system! The ROG Ally's price seems a bit expensive, since many laptops have better performance for the same price. I really wish that the battery life is longer and that there are more ports. Overall, I think I just threw out $700.

Best Handheld Machine PERIOD.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I sold my steam deck (that I love) for the Ally and I don’t regret it. Once you get past the tedious setup, updates, and optimizations, you have a gaming power house. Streaming XBox series X games remotely had unbelievably NO LAG! Plugged in on turbo I was maintaining 112 FPS while streaming NBA 2K23 (I stream it remotely because PC version of 2k isn’t next Gen). My steam library ran and looked absolutely great. Pros: Nice Build, powerful machine, XBox Game Pass and Remote play, 1080p display, 120hz, no lag while playing remote Cons: Windows, long setup process, battery life is not good at all. Slight learning curve. I definitely recommend this device!

A real review for the Ally
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start off by saying that the Ally is by far (not because I'm on the bandwagon) one of the best handheld gaming devices that gives you full windows, multiple gaming platforms, the screen may be small but I'd rather have the ally in my bag since it doesn't take up that most space. The only thing i would say they should add is another USB port but at this point everybody has a usb-c dongle somewhere In your house (especially the Mac family) This bad boy can last if you know how to configure it properly and turn off CPU boost. (did that and was able to push at 1080p with the fps limiter set to 90. And for all you music creators out there, yes Fruity loops is a beast on this machine.

Future of gaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great product runs amazing. Get an external battery for prolonged on the go usage. Battery will last a little over a hour playing graphics heavy games like Hogwarts Legacy or games similar. Definitely the new direction of gaming will make consoles like PlayStation and Xbox obsolete (since u can play mostly every game u play on the consoles on this Ally or similar devices except the few console exclusives that will either go away slowly or eventually after being on the console exclusively for a year will then come to PC(the Ally) anyway) drop the consoles get the rog ally or something similar, you won't regret it.

Amazing handheld PC
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Never got my hands on tbe steam deck mainly because of the limitations but somce the Ally is windows based i bought it immediately, i can now play games on the go like diablo 4 or destiny and some rouge like games or even elden ring, already it performs great better than expected, battery lite ive heard others say its lacking and i agree but Asus has already pushed out an update to fix it. Overall im happy with the performance and as long as you treat it as a handheld like the switch and don’t expect high end gaming you wont be disappointed because a top of the line gaming pc will win for sure in performance but the Ally is still better than most PCs.

Amazing hardware, running Windows...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The hardware is fantastic, better than the Steamdeck in my opinion. It feels really great to hold, it's slightly less bulky, the plastic feels less cheap, and the screen is superb. The twin sticks are not using Hall-effect sensors, but then again neither do the Steamdeck's. All the buttons feel great. But the software lacks the "smoothness" of the Steamdeck... While the Armory Crate software is pretty decent and has great options, it's mostly a front for other game stores. There are many software components that will nag you for updates and accounts every time you boot (Windows, Asus, Armory Crate, Steam, XBox, Epic etc...), and you'll be juggling between apps. And below the surface it's still Windows... Nothing fundamentally wrong with that, but Steamdeck did a really great job at hiding the OS and providing a true console experience: while the Steamdeck feels close to a Nintendo Switch in terms of experience, the ROG Ally feels like... a Surface laptop, with a joystick but no keyboard. And sadly, I don't think there's much that Asus can do here: the ROG Ally is versatile and can run any software that runs on Windows (great!), but Windows is the "frontend": there's no way to have a smooth integration like Steamdeck unless Asus picks one single game store... which would limit its appeal. It's also unlikely Valve would agree :) Maybe Microsoft could make an XBox frontend? Oh, it's minor but the LED lighting on the twin stick is stupidly bright, even at 33% brightness (the lowest setting!). Too bad because they do look nice. Still, overall I think this is a great portable console, better than the Steamdeck in many ways. It's very versatile, it can run all the main game stores and all the games available on PC. Also emulators! The hardware is fantastic. So if you're not daunted by Windows, go for it.

PERFECT almost
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really do LOVE this product as a PC gamer. It’s portability is perfect for the hardware specs and game performance or even just surfing the web. The reason why I DIDNT give it a perfect score is at least as of early July 2023 the drivers and software performance are not the best. I often encounter bugs and hiccups when launching or trying to close games. I’m addition the battery life is sub par compared to others competitors such as the Steam deck and Nintendo switch.

Powerful handheld gaming device
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.ASUS ROG Ally is an amazing handheld gaming device. The device in white casing is sleek and lightweight and extremely comfortable to hold. The Ally is powered by AMD's Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM. It comes with a 512GB NVMe PCIe 4 M.2 SSD that is fast and can store plenty of games. You can also upgrade the storage with an M.2 2230 SSD and UHS-II MicroSD card. It comes with a gorgeous 7" 1080p display that supports 120hz refresh rate and AMD FreeSync technology. The package comes with a power adapter, warranty manual and a plastic stand to hold Ally for handsfree use. The setup is simple and straightforward. Since this run on Windows 11, you would follow the same steps as a normal Windows PC setup process. Make sure you complete all the available BIOS and Windows updates before you start using it. The Ally is powered by a 65W USB C power adapter. It supports fast charging from 0% to 50% in 30 minutes. A fully charged Ally provided me with around 90 minutes of play time for heavy gaming. You can extend this by lowering your settings. If you are using it for video playback, expect to get around 6 hours of usage. I do like the built-in fingerprint sensor on the power button that supports Windows Hello for quick login. Ally supports network connectivity via Wi-Fi 6. It also comes with Bluetooth adapter to connect to audio devices and external controllers. I really like the wireless display option so you can connect it to your smart TV. If you like a wired connection, you can buy the ROG Gaming Charger Dock that powers Ally as well as connects to an external monitor via the built-in HDMI port. The audio on the handheld device is quite amazing. The dual speakers provide an immersive stereo sound and support Dolby Atmos. At 50% volume, I can say the audio was loud yet there was no distortion. Being built on Windows 11 means you can play any PC game that is available. You can install games from Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Epic, GOG, etc. I really like using Armoury Crate, Asus's game management system. It provides a seamless experience to launch any game from any library. You can also use it to adjust game settings, remap controls, customize the buttons, etc. Overall, this is a powerful and feature rich handheld device for gaming on the go.

Like it way more than expected
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Plays games great! Definitely a must buy if you already have a huge game library and want extreme portability. I would even say I would recommend this over an Xbox Series. Sold my switch after I played my games on it the first time. Currently using it as my primary device, I probably pick this up more often then my phone at this point. Can't wait till they add 5g to these devices.

Exactly what I wanted
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely love it, pretty much exactly what I expected. A steam deck with much more freedom. I do recommend buying a dock and peripherals (Bluetooth recommended so you can use them without the dock) But once you have everything it's just a powerful gaming computer you can easily take anywhere. Battery doesn't last too long, but that's to be expected and a non issue for me because I've got a 10ft charging cable.

Great device though not without issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really pleased with the performance, great specs at this form factor and price point. Better to know your way around windows gaming machines, I do so not a problem for me. Did need to create a manual fan curve to keep temps from getting out of hand on more demanding games sometimes, which would cause thermal throttling. I was unable to get any micro-SD cards working properly in the device, I tried 3 different ones from different sources including best buy, and verified that that one did work on my computer. Seems like either a hardware issue or a driver issue. After some googling I found I'm not the only one with the issue, I hope some driver update in the near future will fix it. 512gb limit isn't the end of the world though. Some other things are a bit underbaked, for example I haven't been able to figure out how to get the gyroscope/accelerometer working and only found hacky solutions after googling. I'm hoping they release native support for it (they must right? Why else include the hardware?) Despite the shortcomings though I am happy with the purchase. Can game on the fly with relatively little performance compromise over desktop gaming, that's a dream.

Great System, minor concerns
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Husband used a steam deck before, was able to switch to this device! He said the UI is better and games are smoother to play. Only issue he’s experienced is being able to hook it up to our TV, he’s come across some issues but could totally be user error. And battery life - it definitely requires being close to an outlet.
