Great little mobile gaming machine after you dump Windows 11 and install Bazzite or SteamOS. Plays all the games I want to play at a decent frame rate with appropriate visual settings. I don't play alot of fps games and no online games so the battery last a decent amount of time for me. The unit is relatively light and easy to sit back with on the couch or chair and play games while waiting for laundry to finish washing or drying.

After the initial setup, I played a few games on it. Mainly the forest. It held up very well. The only issues i noticed with it are the battery life, which is expected. Aswell as the heat, it tends to get very hot after a while of playing. Still a good product.

I have been using the Asus ROG Ally for the last one full year, and it has been quite a great performer in the handheld gaming market. Finally, a sleek design with top-of-the-line performance makes for engaging gaming in this one particular unit from ROG Ally. Of course, this comes at certain other trade-offs that an individual needs to eye against its offerings before buying it. Pros The Asus ROG Ally does a few things really well. Its custom AMD Ryzen Z1 processor is soldered to ensure this particular model can get through even the most demanding games. To add to that, it also comes with a high refresh rate display, providing vivid and detailed visuals that bring games alive—at least on paper. I especially liked its screen brightness and color accuracy. Ergonomics is another area where the ROG Ally is preeminently superb. This gadget is endowed with a comfortable grip and well-placed controls to create entertaining extended gaming sessions. In addition, it also features customizable buttons and advanced haptic feedback for further personalization and immersion, thereby giving the device a personalized feel based on gaming preferences. Another good point about the ROG Ally is its ability to support a wide range of games, so gamers who want alternatives are well catered for. Cons Some of the key weaknesses of an Asus ROG Ally include the following: its battery life. With the powerful hardware this device contains, it tends to eat up a lot of battery and can be a major inconvenience for gamers looking for something portable. This product requires recharging frequently after runs of battery draining, reducing the appeal of using it on the move. Another drawback would be the weight of the device. While the ROG Ally has been designed with an overall more rugged structure than one would expect, it does weigh heavier than some of its competition. That might become hectic for those looking for a lightweight, travel-friendly gaming solution. Also, fitting into the budget for those gaming on a tight budget may prove to be difficult due to the premium tag attached. The SD card reader burned out immediately as well, and they never fixed, or offered to fix this. Asus support is one of the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. From the ROG laptop I own (GA503QS) to this device, to say REALLY bad drawbacks, would be an understatement. Conclusion In a nutshell, the Asus ROG Ally offers huge performance along with slick design for serious gamers. It packs in heavyweight processing power and a display that provides users with an amazing gaming experience. At the same time, it boasts an ergonomic design with requirements for comfort during long working hours. However, at the same time, battery life and weight, crap customer service, and broken SD card slot issues, are serious questions that might therefore easily dent its appeal. Would I recommend? Yes, I would recommend the Asus ROG Ally to every gamer who wants better performance and display in a portable handheld device. Obviously, it comes with drawbacks, but its strengths make it worth the cost if one aims at a high-end portable gaming experience. If one can manage frequent charging and doesn't mind a slightly heavier device, then the ROG Ally will be a great choice. (As long as you can get the Extreme model for under $500)

Forget using the sd slot. the card overheats within seconds of putting it in the system and it will stop being detected. 1 port of usb c is not enough, unless you have a docking station, it is only used for powering the device and on a windows operating system, there have been a few times that i have been wanting to use connectivity over usb but cant. screen is good and functionality besides the problems mentioned above are great! this would be a usable laptop in a pinch for school related tasks. the interface of the rog suite is easy to use and understand and if done right, it can remain really cool during gaming. Personally, with the negatives i have of this device, it isnt something i am going to keep. i think i will wait for a version 2 to see if some of the problems (mainly the sd card one) can be corrected in the future

Honestly an amazing product it's honestly awesome. It plays everything in my steam library. The only downside is it has a small SSD but if you aren't worried about avoiding your warranty you can always upgrade the SSD and get more storage. But I wouldn't suggest it unless your not worried about losing the investment if you drop it or something.

Great and powerful handheld, runs AAA titles easily. Storage is very limited, so only a few large games will fit, and battery with high demand games drains fast. Initial set up will take several hours. Little bit of a learning curve if your not use to computer gaming.

Awesome device. The ROG Ally has been great. I've brought it to work and other places and people are interested enough to buy it themselves! It's everything I've wanted. It'll play every game I throw at it, even quite a few of the more recent titles with medium to ultra mix settings. It can emulate all devices including PS3 with no issues. Great job Asus!

great device for a niche crowd. I fit in this group. its the best windows handheld for money. the specs of the z1 extreme are worth price of admission. but had to knock a star off for the quality control. My first unit had a bad MicroSD reader. it overheated and burnt up my 512 card. hope Asus finds a fix but I do much prefer this to my steam deck

It works great. Gets hot on turbo mode but most games only need performance mode which is great. And the fact that you can play plugged in is an amazing addition. The interface can sometimes get glitchy or freeze and some things not work, but all it takes is a restart. The restart doesn't take long at all, too. Startup is just about 7 seconds. I love to hook this up to a dock and play on my monitor. You xan use bluetooth easily and there is no problems with the wifi connecting.

Everything I was looking for in a portable PC. It continues to get better and better as ASUS continues to release ally-specific updates to improve gaming performance. The only problem has been the SD card slot which I've been hearing has been breaking for others. So far, mine has been fine however.. knock on wood.

Only Real Gripe is its convoluted setup process and failure to hide the fact that its a windows based machine with UI problems. Otherwise when you get past all that stuff its a Great Device! Runs Most modern PC games beautifully and is lightweight and feels good in the hands

It's overall pretty good, definitely not for someone who can't operate a windows machine. There's some technical bits and bobs when first getting it watch a few YouTube vids on optimizing the device. Bad bits aside though it's an amazing machine I can play modded BG3 on high graphics with an average of 30 frames, unmodded same settings average of 45, it zooms at my 60 fps frame create cap for cyberpunk, the fans honestly are super quiet when it's on its turbo setting you can definitely feel the device heat up but the beautiful speakers drown out any fan noise and even with Bluetooth headphones or earbuds you can't hear the fans. It's got a headphone jack which makes it better than most flagship phones, Bluetooth compatible and you can use an external graphics card. All honesty get an external GPU for like 900-1200 bucks by this an external GPU that has a built in USB support and get a wireless keyboard and mouse set and you'll have a full desktop PC at half the cost, and you'll still be able to take the heart of your setup anywhere and it'll still give most modern games a good detail.

This device is awesome. Previous steam deck owner. Loved it but really wanted a little more power and the ability to put it on a egpu when its chillin on the desk for some competitive gaming. The only real gripes I have is having to install a 2tb ssd. Which is a win and a lose at the sd card not working properly. Hopefully there is a software fix for it as it would be nice to have more spacnpe. Even though 2tb is plenty but that is my only complaint. Screen is great allot brighter and colorful then the deck. It plays everything about %20 better so you get more fps and take advantage of the 120hz screen for some games. It's windows based which is a win for me because I'm use to windows. But im sure it's learnable if you give it some time. Buy the plug in attachment with the hdmi and usb capabilities if you can as well. I use it all the time and can't wait to get the egpu. If you want something a little more powerful then the deck, don't mind installing an easy 2tb ssd, and something you can expand easily with an egpu then get this!

As a first gen, this thing absolutely hits all the bells and whistles. I'm coming from a laptop running an i3 from like 10 years ago and desperately needed an upgrade to something modern that can run anything I throw at it. This device is so worth it. If you're not docking it and just running handheld, maybe save for the x due to poor battery life if that's a concern of yours. Otherwise, you'll definitely be happy with your purchase.

I recently got the chance to experiencing the ROG Ally and it has exceeded all expectations. As an avid gamer, I've always wanted the perfect gaming laptop that combines performance, portability, and aesthetics, and the ROG Ally delivers on all those aspects. First, the performance of this beast is outstanding. The ROG Ally effortlessly plays even the most demanding games with exceptional frame rates and smooth gameplay. I was amazed at how effortlessly it handled graphically intensive titles, providing a truly immersive gaming experience. Resident Evil 2 was the first game I played on it and it felt like I was controlling characters in a movie with the quality of the graphics and seamless play. The design of the ROG Ally is a major plus to me in comparison to the Steam Deck. Its slim and lightweight profile makes it highly portable, allowing me to take my gaming on the go without sacrificing performance. The customizable RGB lighting adds a touch of personalization. One of the lesser known feature of the ROG Ally is its cooling system. ASUS has inputted cooling technologies that keep the devices' temperature in check even during extended gaming sessions. The efficient heat dissipation ensures optimal performance without any thermal throttling. Furthermore, the battery life of the ROG Ally exceeded my expectations. Despite its powerful hardware, it provided a respectable amount of gaming time. In conclusion, the ROG Ally sets a new standard for handheld gaming devices. Its exceptional performance, sleek design, efficient cooling, versatile connectivity, and impressive battery life make it a standout choice for serious and periodic gamers alike.

Okay i had my doubts about this thing and i fell victim to the trying it out and i can return it with best buys extended holiday return policy. Well i can say for sure i wont be returning this thing at all! If you love tech and you find yourself wishing the times youve traveled or needed your PC with you to just have it, this is a must. This has been so under reviewed and hammered by many reviewers, and i got to say, this thing is more than enough to play triple A games on the go. Asus has done a fantastic job with this one, my only gripe is the battery. Even on 900p with no CPU boost and brightness ans volume and RGB lighting off, i am able to play maybe from 60-90 minutes with high settings on my games with the Turbo mode on at 25Watts. Battery pack is a must just make sure its over 65 Watts and have a cable to carry that is also a 65w or higher cable. Overall that and new APU hardware with bigger battery will be for the future. Add GSP you can go ahead and protect this for 2 years and if it breaks and they dont have the ally they will credit you for a new one if they cant find you another one available. BUY IT NOW! Gift yourself with this and game whenever you want where you want. Assassins creed on my toilet for those long minutes has never been so good! If i may say!
