Really love the rog ally is a great portable gaming handheld but i wish the battery would last a bit longer in high performance and also would wish the sd card reader wouldn't break because of the heat that comes from the top.

A great little portable machine for light gaming on the go. Battery life isn't great, particularly with graphically intense games, but that's usually not that great of a concern for me since the Ally has allowed me to play more games that I wouldn't have had time for otherwise due to needing to turn on a laptop/desktop and be at a place where playing on those machines is comfortable.

I really wanted to love this. The concept is amazing and when it works, it works great. My micro SD card slot died yesterday. The storage leaves a lot to be desired. The battery life is awful. I can play fall guys for maybe 45 minutes before it completely dies. You’ll need to be tethered to a charger. All in I spent around $1200 on this. For that price I might as well get a gaming laptop that has better battery life, upgradability, same portability, and probably better graphics. If you NEED a handheld, get this and carry a charger with you. Otherwise spend a few bucks more for a laptop.

I think this item is really worth it if you have the money for it. It can be a little bit pricey but you are getting 120Hz and it could handle AAA games pretty well. I like to play Destiny 2, Yakuza like a Dragon, and Dead by Daylight and it handles all of them pretty well. For the games I talked about these are some of the benchmarks I got running on Turbo. Destiny 2 - 70FPS on low settings Yakuza like a Dragon - 45FPS on medium settings Dead by Daylight - 79FPS on low settings And for emulation games consistently very high frames and can easily handle it depending on what emulation you’re doing. The only personal problem I have is the joysticks when playing Destiny feel a little bit floaty. Now it does have low battery but I mainly play it plugged in and it runs amazing, so I would recommend playing it plugged in. Overall would still recommend if you can get your hands on one.

So far so good. I bought it despite the cons I've heard about it, but it's been fne for me. The SD card issue, I have not tested. It does run hot and I'vce done adjustments, but I've always kept it cool with a fan blowing at the back. I primarily bought it for Starfield and it plays pretty well on medium settings. I've been playing it in short stints at work on breaks and it's fine. Battery runs out quick, but I'm always plugged in anyway during the longer breaks and I use dock mode at home. The grips could have been better though, but an improvement from the switch joycons. I got some rubber grips for it and it helps a lot. Windows jank will always be windows jank though, but I've used windows on laptops and pc enough to be fine dealing with it. It is more difficult without a mouse though, but I carry a bluetooth mouse for situations like this.

This handheld is powerful. From emulation to AAA games, I'm sure there's something it can't play but i haven't found it yet. There are hundreds of reviews on YouTube that could do a better review than me but the only issue is battery life. I normally average around 1hr unplugged. There was a known issues with the sdcard slot failing and Asus may have changed something with all the updates because mine is still working fine.I use the sdcard card slot for emulation storage and some smaller older games. If it fails I'll do and RMA or use my extended warranty but no users as of now. You should upgrade the Nvme to a 2tb or more. I put a 2tb 2230 drive in mine and it's plenty for now but they aren't cheap right now at $149 online.

Awesome handheld pc love the portability insane graphics for a handheld I would have gave it 5 stars if it weren’t for the insanely fast dying battery on max settings you get about 1 hour 30 minutes.

Expensive? Yes Can run all my games? Yes Hot? A little bit on the hot side but worth for the performance Can it do my taxes? Yes... with the right software which you can install because it's running Windows! Battery Life? Poor if you want to play any full 3D game but it will run 2D games easily, for intense gaming AC power is recommended.

own both a steam deck and an ally

i own both top dog hand helds and here is my take, if your gonna spend the money you get more for your cash with the ally. that being said they both have their place, steamdeck is good for simple console like fun. the steamdeck is what id buy for kids for christmas the ally is what you get yourself it will play call of duty and warzone with some setting changes and a learning curve, it will play diablo 4 perfectly pretty much anything i have thrown at the ally can be played but you have to set it up and it can take time. i also find myself using this as a laptop to watching youtube and surfing the web and the transition from aurmory crate to windows is seamless unlike haveing to restart the deck to get to the desktop. the battery is a concern for every one on the ally but i think if your getting this your looking at performance and you will use a hefty battery bank anyway. ultimatly this is the only price to performance option for windows handhelds and it should be appluaded that asus had put this out with no game store revenue to back the loss they take on the build they know what they are doing and are giving us more options would definatly recomend to anyone looking to play AAA games on the go.

Truly a marvel of technology. This thing makes me smile every time i use it. Lighter, brighter, faster and ultkmately more adaptable (windows 11 vs. Linux) than thw steam deck. The only flaw is the battery life, but in actuality the steam deck is almost just as bad and if you're gaming a long time a battery pack should be a given anyway.

I bought this device because I wasn't happy with the Steam Deck as far as it's incompatibility with anything outside of the steam ecosystem. The amount of work required switching between modes and dealing with tinker to let me load certain items was irritating. The ASUS ROG Ally has not had any compatibility issues for me. If the game works with a controller it works with the Ally. The performance is consistent. Very few games require me to scale back quality and at 15w nearly every AAA game I have played has had no issues. The battery life is where I run into most problems. I don't charge it past 80% because I want it to last me a few years, but from 80% I get roughly about 45 minutes to an hour of gaming from higher end games. Which doesn't amount to their advertised battery life. Also, recently they've updated the BIOs because it was running HOT and burning out SD card slots, if you are buying this because the reviews said it was silent. That is not the case anymore. At 15w it now has roughly the same noise pollution as the Steam Deck. If you are in the market for a device like this, the price is right and the compatibility cannot be beat. I would recommend this.

Cool little steamdeck competitor, better in someways (slightly more powerful, and supports more game stores), but worse in someways as well, LCD screen and worse battery life despite larger battery. Overall it depends on what you value, and how much work you’re willing to put in, with a little bit of software installation you can support more stories on the steamdeck removing that advantage, and the battery life is just better, but on most games the ROG Ally gets 5-15fps higher, but either is a good choice. Ergonomics are also worse than the steamdeck imo, but I don’t have small hands.

Got this used as the cheapest option and the micro sd slot did not work which wasn’t much of a surprise as that is a known issue on these and it was used. Luckily I don’t need it or have any plans to use it and the docking station I use has a micro sd slot that works. Overall the performance of this to play the games I love for a quick login on the go is amazing. It is almost good enough to just hook up to a monitor and use as your primary pc.

OK, first of all, I used this for just under two weeks and then returned it. It wasn't for me in its current state, but I have a Steam Deck and a local PC game streaming solution as well. So the negatives outweighed the positives for me - for now. First of all, the positives: the standout to me is the screen. It's a gorgeous 1080p display with 120 Hz, and more significantly, Variable Refresh Rate (freesync). The colors really pop and anything that can run 1080p native looks fantastic. The wifi is also solid (particularly for game streaming) and the speakers are great as well. The device is powerful and ran games very well at 15W (I didn't spend much time at 25W TDP or higher). I didn't find the Windows experience to be amazing, but it isn't as bad as some people say, either. The Armoury Crate software is serviceable as a game launcher. The negatives for me, are mostly software-based. ASUS needs to revise the system's software to make improvements to key functions like the joystick dead zones and TDP management. If this device could manage its TDP better, and provide hours of game streaming through Moonlight at low TDP, that would be great. As it is, Moonlight runs well enough at 8/10W TDP settings, but it's simpler on the Steam Deck to stream a game and have the device sip battery for 6ish hours. I'll share my inevitable thoughts on comparing this to the Deck. I think this is perfect over the Deck if you're the kind of gamer that's always looking to play the latest and greatest PC games - in that scenario, the power difference really wins out. If you already have a large Steam library, then I think the Deck makes more sense - not because of integration with Steam, but because the Deck is a fantastic backlog killer, and if you have a large game library through Steam, you probably have a LOT of titles that don't require much processing power to play, and the Deck wins out at low spec gaming because of its superior TDP management. If I play a lightweight title on my Deck, I can just expect hours of battery life, with nothing required on my part. On the Ally, I have to manually set up the right TDP or switch to the 10W silent mode, which in itself is still not going to last that long. This device could be so much better with some software improvements. I may come back and repurchase the Ally early next year if ASUS improves things. And yes, the Steam Deck needed a lot of love from Valve at first, as well. But Valve proved themselves with how they supported the Deck. Only time will tell if ASUS will do the same.

a great handheld, some issues getting started, but youtube helped. nice weight in hands, screen is great. Was playing Starfield on it and had no issues running. Even at low 1080p settings the game looked great. No hiccups with emulators.

Ive had my device for a little over a month and despite reading others people issues I haven't had any problems and am 100% happy with the product. I work in IT and am using this device as my primary Windows machine. I don't really get into the whole customizing fan speeds and what not I just want to play my Call of Duty and keep it moving which has not been an issue. I'm loving the build quality and cannot get over that screen! Spec wise im not using more than 500GB on games as I play 1 or 2 at a time until completion. This little unit is a beast honestly I really don't see a reason to get an XG Mobile which I had planned to. I only wished it came in the color black and maybe just one more USB C port on the actual device.

You Will not regret buying this little beast of pc! Sure the battery life can also be worked with but this thing can play starfield! And halo too! Not to mention black ops 3 with mods and can run game with mods with ease! This thing is powerful n fairly priced literally I have asus TUF and I’m telling ya this thing weighs way less! And it’s good for toilet playtime hahaha! But seriously you can play ANYTHiNg on it like steam deck comes very low capabilities to play anything but won’t regret it! Serious upgrade from deck! Their port can connect hdmi and usb can use to put on projector or tv very handy! With this can connect keyboard n mouse if choose to and even plays VR that’s right PCVR steam not like deck can do that….. don’t sit there and ponder just grab dis baby! I was able to stream on it to that tells ya something!
