Better than Expected.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For it’s form factor, the ROG Ally performs much better than expected. The screen is awesome. Thermals are great. Battery life could use some improvement. Windows 11 is fine, but Asus and Microsoft should trim down the OS as much as possible to enhance the handheld gaming experience. It works well, but we don’t need the Office suite and Teams apps on a device intended for gaming. If the OS was better optimized, it might improve the overall performance and battery life, which would take the ROG Ally to the next level. Storage fills up quick, so unless you plan on gaming online, expect to upgrade your SSD. Another improvement that would greatly improve the device would be to add a sim or eSim option to allow for cellular connectivity. Having cell service would prevent the need for wi-fi and enhance mobility. Overall good device that can only get better with time.

Amazing handheld gaming
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is great, plays a ton of games steam deck cant. Was ablw to play AAA games like Elden Ring at 60fps no problem. Battery life is ok but is lacking when playing graphically intensive games. Because it runs Windows, get a usbc dock and this thing is a perfect pc.

Awesome so far!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was able to find this as an open box excellent condition in my area for about $601, I added on a year of protecrtion through Best Buy (it already comes with 1yr of manufacturer coverage) and was out the door for $746 and some change. So far I have played: Fortnite, The Lake, some COD games, and Need for Speed Heat. I played all of these in the Turbo Mode. I changed the fps to 120 on most games and it seems to habdle it with ease. Everything looks crystal clear and has very nice color! My only complaint would be the batter life. After a full charge I can get maybe 2 hours before it has to be plugged back up, which isnt a deal breaker but some may want to consider other options if they want to use this for travel. As far as heat dissipation it does a good job with this. The back of the device doesn't get hot but can at times feel slightly warm. If you hover your hand over the vents you can feel just how hard the fans are working to keep everything cool. Overall very satisfied with this device. Looking forward to trying out Payday 3 when it releases!

Absolutely Amazing
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Its blown me away. Of course there are always areas for improvement but its like having an ultra portable gaming laptop essentially in your pocket (if you wear 90's jeans).... It takes some time to get things set up right, and the more you use it the more you'll find tricks to increase both performance and battery life. Having access and ability to play probably 95% or more of all PC games ever created, combined with the fact it has full blown windows and feels like a desktop when docked, the ability to play emulators effortlessly, AND be fully portable, its one of the best devices I've used in my entire life. Just 10-15 years ago we could easy have entire gaming rooms set up just to play the games this one device can. I didn't expect to be impressed with this and got from best buy to take advantage of their return policy. But there's no way Im taking this back.

Awesome little machine!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve played games ranging from Stardew Valley to Diablo 4 and the new Forza. If you manage your graphics settings and expectations a bit, having access to your PC games anywhere in the house or on the go is fantastic - I play in bed or out in the family room regularly. And, I like the Windows OS - it’s familiar and flexible compared to something like SteamOS. Looking forward to setting up streaming from my desktop to the Ally for better performance - and using a dock to stream my desktop to the big TV via the Ally. The battery life leaves something to be desired when playing AAA games, but I’m usually plugged in anyway. My only real complaint is that one of the RGB lights seems to be regularly inoperative - I think it’s a software thing as it always happens or fixes itself when I update. Even this isn’t a huge deal since I turn those lights off anyway - just annoying a feature doesn’t work right.

Gaming on the go
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Clear and vivid picture. Indie games runs seamlessly and jrpgs. Triple A games run good for the most part with some tweaks in graphics settings. I got 47 to 53 fps on callisto protocol on medium without plugging it in. So definitely recommend it for playing all your games on the go.

Pleasantly Surprised
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have to be honest - I fully expected to not like the ROG Ally and have to return it. Reviews have been hit or miss and I have plenty of experience with faulty Asus products. I do not doubt that people have run into those. To avoid disappointment with the ROG Ally, you have to have the right expectations. This is not a Xbox handheld or Nintendo Switch or even a Steam Deck. It is a gaming laptop with controllers on the side. That means you get all of the versatility and capabilities of a Windows gaming laptop, but also all of the complexity & quirks of Windows 11. Expect to use the touch screen a lot & the onscreen keyboard when navigating around Windows. I've gotten used to it. Once in game, it pretty much feels just like my Steam Deck, except the games run so much better and the screen is amazing. Hardware wise, this feels like what a Version 2.0 of the Steam Deck will be.

Rog Ally Handheld PC
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Runs smooth. Looks great. Have had a lot of fun playing Diablo4 on it and a handful of other games on the go when I travel. Only lost a star due to low battery life and rough start before new updates fixed the bugs.

Incredibly Powerful Handheld PC
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's kind of wild to imagine that we've come far enough to have this much power at our fingertips. I'm still blown away at how well this thing performs. With that being said, that does come at a cost (outside of $700).. and that is battery-life. If you run this thing at 15w or better, you might as well plan on having less than 2hrs battery life. Even though it is a 40Wh battery, Windows takes a chunk of wattage too. If I'm running a game at 15w, which gives me the best performance to battery ratio, the total system watts is around 25w a lot of the time. This equates to about 1hr 40min of play time. The plus side is: if you plug it in, you never have to worry about that. And that's where the unit really shines. If you run this on power, you're likely to get up to or over 1080p/60fps in most AAA games at medium settings.

Great way to play pc games on the go!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Been playing It everywhere. Great screen, great performance, great size. The battery is not the best, but you can fix it with a portable battery. I've been playing my favorite PC games and emulating retro games on the go!!! Highly recommended!

Great handheld gaming pc
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great performance, and I've been spending lots of time playing games on this thing. Battery life is not great. Windows is not the greatest to use on this screen size, but hopefully you are using this more for games. If you need to use windows features extensively, invest in a usb c hub or dock.

Good product but missing things
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the Ally open box. Works good but did not have the original charger. Barely was able to hold a charge in the beginning. Had to buy one on Amazon. Works good with most games. Can get choppy at times for AAA games that require you to run on turbo.

I fell in love, you might too.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For whatever else I will say in this review, if you're even thinking about it or in the market, go buy this product. Lets start with cons, a 8000mAh battery is nothing for a device like this. Sharing system memory is never the best. Software needs some improvements, specifically a way to share profiles for games. It tends to deep sleep without your noticing it. Pros, FAST. Blazingly fast in. Pretty, it looks good. Screen is amazing. Price is competitive in the market space. The fact that it's a Windows 11 PC under the hood means that you will have a wider array of online gaming options than the Steam Deck because of Anti Cheat. Easy to access all of the different DRM's you use for gaming. The ASUS name brand is not just for show and is a major plus when compared to all but the Steam Deck. Let's be clear, this is not a perfect device and this will continue to evolve but, for what this is, for what it can do. It's an amazing device. If you are selective with your game choice (don't try the newest AAA titles) and your expectation, you will find that you fall in love.

700$, but don't skip the warranty
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It'll need some tweaks when you set up the device, but if you've googled anything about this, it is a new competitor to the Steam Deck. Make sure to give the ROG Ally a good health check before you toss the receipt, mine had lines across the middle of the screen indicating a possible faulty video display, the second one has been much better. Overall it has been a pleasure to play games on. Battery is awful, but you have a portable Windows gaming machine, so if you are near a power outlet, keep a 65w+ charger handy (anything less will still lose battery, but slower than just battery). Worth picking up if you don't have a Steam Deck, just don't expect the Ally to play AAA titles at ultimate settings. The 720p screen helps a lot, but you will be playing lower settings for a lot of modern games. Still a blast when on the couch.

Best Gaming Handheld PC!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the Ally since release and have had zero issues with it. it's been a great experience. I see most on here complaining about setting up the device, but if you know anything about a Windows PC you know there will be updates required and Asus has done an excellent job guiding you through the process with a video helping you get started. If you're looking for something that is lighter than the competition with a screen you can play most of the latest games at 60fps at it's full native (1080p) resolution with VRR then you won't find a better device. I have since updated mine and my sons Ally with 2 TB SSD drives that is extremely easy to do and only takes about 10 minutes to replace and reinstall the new drive, the system has also a built-in recovery system as well to get you back up and running. The Ally by far from my experience has been better then competition I have purchased recently.

ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is...good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was powerful enough to run AAA games to certain limitations. The hardware design is not the best one, but could be worse. The 7'' display may feel too small for high-end games, unless you dock it to a TV or use VR glasses. It's great for indies and emulation, but the rounded D-Pad is not great for precision-needed 2D games, e.g. Hollow Knight, Silksong, Celeste, etc. I'd recommend a Steam Deck OLED or a more recent device.

Pretty good
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty good handheld gaming PC. Been using this for Wolfenstein Last Colossus, Telltale Walking Dead series and Return to Moria. It handles all games really well. The only negative is the battery. It just doesnt last long unless you 'lower' the operating mode. Not a huge negative, but something to keep in mind.
