Overall I'm really liking the Ally and am very glad I purchased it. I picked up the Steam Deck during Valve's Summer sale and enjoyed handheld gaming so much that I wanted to expand the games I could play in handheld format. I know you CAN get battle.net games to run on the Steam Deck but I also wanted to natively play Game Pass games and that is where the Ally comes in. Diablo IV runs nicely and I'm really enjoying Sea of Stars, Hi-Fi Rush, and Fallout 4 on the Ally. I have a bunch of games in the backlog and the Ally is letting me play them. I have a very nice gaming PC but often I don't want to sit at a desk or just want to play 20-30 minutes before bed after a busy day and Ally fits perfectly for that. My main complaints are Windows related and keeping the Ally software updated. Windows is just annoying to use on a small screen and with a gamepad but this really only comes into play when updating the software and getting new games. But updating this thing/keeping it up to date is very annoying. MyAsus doesn't get the latest drivers so I usually end up going to Asus support page to manually download and install the latest updates. The Asus support page for downloading drivers is FAR from perfect. It's actually tricky to find all the drivers because of how they display them on the site. AMD doesn't seem to directly support the Ally via their update tools so you need to be careful with getting things from the AMD site. Lastly, Windows update can install the wrong version of software/drivers. Fingers crossed I'm running the best drivers. Maybe Asus and Windows will figure things out. The Steam Deck is just so much more streamlined.

This product has been one of my favorite purchases I've made in the last few years. Although there is heavy competition amongst MSI and Lenovo, such as the claw for example, it has been a pleasing experience. As long as you are willing to make small compromises dependent upon the game you play, (fps, resolution, etc.) it will play whatever title you throw at it as well as AAA games. The User interface is much better in comparison to its rivals. You can find one likely in open box condition, although you should run a full diagnostic test on the model(double check the analog sticks, as they diagnostic won't show up whether or not they work well), as well as buy hall effect joy sticks and a great dock and/or skin for the device for a better long run experience. I recieved a defective unit my first purchase and a death in the family around the time of purchase, and my local BestBuy manager gave me a new model after signing up for membership even though it was an item purchased beforehand. He worked with me very well on this and was very understanding. Know you will make small compromises here and there when buying this and only game for up to 3-4 hrs without a power source. However, if you go into it eyes-open it can replace your PS4, PS5, Steam Deck, and PS Portal. Its a wonderful device. However, you should definitely educate yourself on the basics of gaming computers beforehand. This was my entry into the gaming community, and I am already shopping for the laptop to pair it with. Definitely consider the BestBuy Plus membership for $50/year, as it is a godsend being able to purchase open box items with a 60 day warranty. You wont regret it. Just remember, THIS IS NOT A NINTENDO SWITCH OR XBOX, it is a portable(and powerful) gaming laptop configured in the manner of a controller.

I purchased the Asus ROG Ally from Best Buy last year, and it's exceeded my expectations. This compact powerhouse handles everything I throw at it, playing all the games I usually run on my gaming rig without missing a beat. The portability is fantastic for on-the-go gaming, and the performance is top-notch. I'm thoroughly satisfied with it and would highly recommend it to any gamer looking for a mobile gaming solution!

This is a great handheld device. The battery life leaves a bit to be desired but that is to be expected with such a compact device pushing this much power. The internal layout is very diy when it comes to fixing or replacing parts. 120hz refresh rate and the ips display looks really nice. This machine can run a lot of games from emulation all the way up to modern AAA titles with some caveats when it comes to newer more demanding titles. Windows is not the best for a handheld if you are not used to pc gaming but it allows for compatibility with pretty much any game. Also you can load your own OS if you want a more steam deck "like" experience. The price could be a bit better but I wouldn't say it's overpriced for what you get.

I own all 3 current consoles generations and can say this is my go to now. When the wife is on the TV I can remote play PS5 just as well as the ps portal, play any Xbox gamepass game either native if it has a PC Version or stream from Xbox Cloud if not the the emulation is untouched. I've been revisiting the Gamecube and PS3 just awsome. Then you always have your steam collection using the steam hardware so this is also basically a steamdeck but much stronger.the only problem is the Battery life but I'm around a plug in our car plug at most times. You can use a laptop battery bank also to keep your game going.

Honestly what i expected, only handheld I’ve had gas been the switch lite and considering this is more powerful the battery life is understandable. It’s not perfect and you will need to tweak settings and or be close to a true power source. With the current updates that were released (12/21/2023) it has tremendously helped games like CyberPunk 2077, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc run more smoothly in the 15w option while not killing the battery within 1.5 hour . Pushing about 1.75/2.5 hours in total now.

The ASUS ROG Ally is an impressive handheld gaming device that brings a console-like experience on the go. Its sleek design is comfortable to hold, which is perfect for extended gaming sessions. Equipped with powerful hardware, it handles demanding games smoothly, delivering impressive graphics and fast load times. The display is vibrant and sharp, enhancing the visual experience, while the controls are responsive, allowing for precise gameplay. Battery life is decent for a device of this caliber, though heavy gaming may require more frequent recharges. Additionally, the software interface is user-friendly and integrates well with popular gaming libraries, making it easy to access your favorite titles. Overall, the ASUS ROG Ally is a solid choice for gamers looking for portability without compromising performance. Whether you're playing at home or on the move, it’s a fantastic addition to any gamer's arsenal!

The product was open box and in great condition. Overall the product is great, battery life could be better and I prefer steam OS over windows 11, once steam OS is available for this device it will be way better. Overall it’s great works well, plays games with ease.

Great design, right size and weight. Performance better than I expected. Windows is not the best OS for this form factor but with Xreal glasses and Bluetooth keyboard this becomes a very decent desktop computer. For retro gaming this is a perfect platform. Emudeck handles most of the heavy lifting. Battery life could have been better but I am more than happy especially since I carry a 65W batter pack with me which doubles the play time.

Love this thing. Plays just about anything on Steam. The battery life is horrendous but I knew that going in. If you are close to a power outlet this is great. Don't expect to go on a long road trip and play AAA games for hours. If your expectations are realistic then you will love it. As always do your homework! This is pricey , read reviews , watch video reviews , make an informed choice!

It's a very powerful handheld pc . It plays everything you throw at it , but there is work involved especially setting it up over 2 weeks later im still fine tuning everything. If you don't likw to tinker this handheld isnt for you . Also my sd reader quite working but my micro sd works on the charging dock ( sold separately) with micro usb adapter . I think it's a design flaw where they put the sd reader . Other than that i love this thing with a 2 tb 2230 ssd m.2 gen 4 its worth upgrading but then your up around 900$ after taxes on hanheld then 110 for 1tb micro plus 220 for 3 year geek protection. I got arou d 12000 wrapped in this thing but i am happy. It's not for everyone i work away from home a week at a time .

The Ally is as cool as it looks. Running windows was a huge plus for me as I’m not as comfortable working with Linux. It does run games a lot better than the Steamdeck, but you have to realize it draws a lot more power to do so. Playing non demanding games: perfect, the battery will last a few hours for sure. Playing triple A games however… expect about an hour (or a little less) of solid gaming before your battery is dead. I usually play plugged in, whether it be the included charger or a battery pack, but I guess I was hoping for a bit more with the battery life.

Despite the poor battery life with the ROG Ally, it actually performs really well with modern AAA games. I've played a number of hardware heavy games on it, and all of them played well so far. The only con that Ive had personally would be the lack of a track pad, however it's not a huge negative. The setup for the ROG Ally was a but of hassel as I wasnt able to use the keyboard as it was a requirement to configure my wifi. Despite that, I was able to find a solution online which told me hold one of the mappable buttons on the back of the ally, while pressing up on the dpad to being it up. The ROG Ally has been great since its purchase and I enjoy it.

This is a great device as long as you know what you're doing. For example, you will likely need to adjust the VRAM allocated to the GPU and if you want to access the gyro functionality, you will have to use a third party program like HandHeld Companion. There is no dedicated interface like on the Steam Deck, but you can work around this by using Steam big picture (I wouldnt recommend using Armoury Crate to launch games). It is, however, a very powerful device and will run your games great, albeit on a short battery life.
