I have this and was one of the first ones thst was able to get the Steamdeck within the first year launch as I was on Q2 for shipment. I played thr Deck a ton as well. Since I’ve gotten an Ally, I havent touched my deck since. The Ally is more powerful for sure. I’ve compared both systems for gamss and the Ally outperforms it on every game I’ve tried. The screen looks amazing too. It is a windows so it will require a little on the users end to get it updated and such. A lot of bad revoews are coming from console users moving onto a windows system and its not user friendly. Im used to windows so setupand navigating was easy for me. 10/10 purchase for me

Rog Ally is a handheld Beast!!!

Bought the rog ally to be able to game on the go and i couldn't ve more happy. I'm a few weeks in and so far zero complaints. It is literally a handheld pc with wondows 11 on it. It is technically my first gaming pc as I have always been a console user so if the idea of switching to pc scares you don't let it stop you if your on the fence. Some of the triple A games i have run are beyond the ps4's capability and almost on par woth the ps5 and its a handheld! The obly down side is battery will drain fast when playing demanding games but if you buy a 65w battery pack you can extend playtime quite a bit. Overall 9/10

So out of the box I was extremely impressed, the ROG Ally feels great in the hand. I booted it up and everything felt familiar. I've owned it for five months now and I have to say I love this thing. It plays AAA games just fine and with the upcoming addition of AFMF 2 from AMD it'll get even better. I absolutely recommend the ROG Ally if you're looking for a great all around handheld.

Preordered this after many weeks of debsting between this and the steam deck. Definitely glad i went with this option as it was totally worth it. Plays every gamr ive thrown at it just fine. Yes Windows 11 isnt exwftly designed for something like this so thr UI can be irritating but what rlse do you do? The battery life is mediocre but honestly this is a handheld gaming pc…you cant have Nintendo Switch battery life with a device this powerful and versatile. If you dont have a handheld pc and want one get this over the steam deck. If you have a handheld pc already such as the steam deck there isnt a reason to get this unless you just want to.

The ASUS ROG Ally is a formidable device that offers a superior gaming experience compared to the Steamdeck. Its lightweight design, quiet operation, and Windows-based operating system provide enhanced versatility and compatibility with various gaming platforms such as Xbox Game Pass, Steam, and Epic. The Z1 Extreme version of the ASUS ROG Ally is highly recommended for its exceptional performance and portability, making it an ideal choice for gamers seeking a powerful and compact handheld gaming device.

    ROG ALLY Best PC/Console Handheld

The ROG ALLY stands out as an excellent handheld device for gaming. While I don't game on PC frequently, I thoroughly enjoy playing on my Xbox, and the ROG ALLY complements my gaming experience, especially with access to all the games in the Xbox Game Pass library. Its performance at this price point is remarkable, offering a satisfying gaming experience. The only drawback I've encountered with the ROG ALLY is its battery life, which could be improved to enhance the overall gaming sessions..

The hardware is great but the software still needs some work. There are a lot of shortcuts that help deal with the fact that Windows isn't fully ready for a device like this. Armory Crate is better than I thought it would be but it's annoying that you can't see your entire game library. Software jank aside, once you're playing games this thing is amazing. Great performance, a great screen, and the Ally stays fairly quiet. Hopefully future software updates will improve the out of game experience.

I actually really love this system, compared to the steam deck where I could play pc games, modding the steam deck to get different apps and programs wasn’t something I was up for, so I’m glad I got this instead, it’s so much more easier, and the rgb lights, chiefs kiss!

Fantastic system, with so much support from the vendor and the community. Fast processing and impressive graphics most emulation use. Innovative software from Asus to turn from gamepad controls to mouse controls. Battery life sucks basically 1.5 to 2 hours. There are loads of weeks to get the system to run even faster along with front ends for game collections. Some issues. 1. Sleep mode fails often so I have to power off and on again 2. Have contact issues with the display not outputting to the TV or showing on both the TV and the main screen. Needs more control of windows in docked mode limited so you have to have a keyboard and mouse

This thing is amazing, I am able to play all my games on steam and on 1080p and everything looked crisp. I have the steamdeck but since steamdeck can only do 800p things look grainy so the ROG ally just looks better and is more powerful I love it!! The only drawback is the ergonomics are not as comfortable as the steamdeck and the battery.

Boot and load times are super fast. Graphics are excellent and the screen size is perfect for mobile gaming. Device is a tiny bit heavy which is surprising with such a short battery life. About 1 hour of Diablo 4 on about 40% screen brightness and graphics settings turned down. Wouldn't want to hold it much longer than that anyway. I turned off the distracting button LED lights to try to conserve some power. The battery life sort of kills it for me, but it's still good for a short round of play unplugged.

There are some teething problems but don't get lost in the negative chatter. This is a fantastic portable gaming device. I've been waiting to have something like this for 20+ years and its finally here. The ROG Ally can play (nearly) ANYTHING! I'm playing old-school PC games, console games with emulation and new games with Xbox Game Pass and Steam. With this level of flexibility come some tweaking though. So if you're looking for a device that is open, download and play without any customization or some small things to work around, this device is not for you. Otherwise, get it!

I never thought I would enjoy gaming on a handheld, because mostly I game on a desktop PC. This thing surprised me. Good performance, nice sound, pretty good display. The only downside of this device is the battery, but it does not bother me as much. I was thinking of getting a Steam Deck, but ROG has better performance and I got an open box unit, which was cheaper than the Deck.

Low battery life, full Windows on mini screen...

So the battery life is pretty bad. 2 hours at best, with 720p, 10w silent mode and 60hz refresh rate. That's with 2d titles btw. More demanding games only go 45 minutes or so. Still, I like where the handheld PC scene is going but IMO it's not a good purchase just yet if you want to take this thing out of the house. Or away from a power outlet at all for that matter. I know that this is a full on Windows handheld, but it's still competing with all the other handhelds out there, even if they don't run Windows. Also, using a full Windows installation on a screen this small is maddening. You will need a dock to use a mouse/keyboard on an actual monitor to set things up without frustration. Armoury Crate tries to remedy this with big button shortcuts but you still gotta use Windows Explorer to make shortcuts for the games that it can't find... I found myself having to dock and use a monitor way too often for the handheld to be worth it. Also a 512gb SSD at this price point along with the widely reported SD card reader issue are worrying. Shouldn't have to use an external card reader on a device this expensive, come on! I suggest waiting for the tech to get there before seriously considering a Windows handheld. Hardware is perfect (except analog sticks, no hall effect here), but the battery life and storage issues are worrying.

Games very well considering its a mobile device, love the flexibility that a full win11 build offers. My main complaint is the battery life, which isnt great. If you want peak performance you are tethered to the wall, which defeats the purpose of a portable system. Its great for gaming while traveling in a hotel room for example. Overally pleased with my purchase.

Gaming Pc on the go. Initial setup was a bit difficult and it froze one time, had to force shut down. Plays most games with tweaks and better performance than the steam deck. Great screen and speakers. I like the design and ergonomics. Wish it came with a case like the steam deck, and the official Asus cases is overpriced for a soft case. Overall I'm satisfied with the Ally despite the SD card reader issue (which I haven't experienced but a lot of people are).

So, I have had a Steam Deck for about a year and I think I am enjoying this more, but I will say the Steam Deck feels a little better in your hand, and is much easier to get running. The catch though, once you get this running how you want, it can run a lot more, most things better, and not have to play with compatibility work arounds. The buttons and hand fit on the ROG Ally is not quite as nice as the deck, but still good enough where I am more than fine. The screen is also noticeably nicer. In the end, I think the semi-tech savvy will like the Ally, and once they hone the software even more it might be a casual contender too.
