This is a really fun device. I’ve been enjoying this for the month or so. I love the versatility of this handheld (my friends call it an LS Swapped Switch). Battery life is less than desirable… give it a couple hours at best and less than an hour at worst. That would be the only thing I would change, a larger battery. Screen is creat, controlls feel great, love gyro control (got used to that on my switch). Love it!

The ASUS ROG Ally is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I can play all my favorite games on the go, play on the couch, play on the bed, play on the plane, whatever. Wherever I take this device I am always getting questions about it by curious folks. I show them it can play Halo, Battlefield, Call of Duty and they are just in awe. As soon as I show them Emulation games they swear they have to purchase it now. The build quality is fantastic and that screen just makes games pop.

The Ally is a handheld device that runs a desktop (and/or laptop) OS. There’s clunkiness there for sure. The battery life is LOL. But gosh darn it if I don’t love it! I’m playing all my games on it at high FPS. The controls feel great. I love being to launch Steam, Xbox, Epic and Battlenet from the same device while laying back on the couch. Also, ASUS keeps cranking out software fixes/updates so it feels more and more streamlined (maybe too generous of a word for now). In sum, the device has issues but, like Joo Lee, it does the thing. If you’re looking for a gaming handheld then this is an excellent option

Love this handheld for the 120hz to the beautiful LCD and the fact that it’s a PC in your hands is crazy. To take full advantage of this handheld you’d need a hotspot or mifi with you so you can use it as a PC. You can buy the dock and hook it up to a monitor and controller and get decent FPS. There is plenty of room for improvements like ram, storage and especially battery at during preformance mode. Better then a steam deck but if you own steam games then stick with what you got. Cons Battery life is short Need WiFi

Awesome little hybrid device where you can use it as handheld or desktop when docked. I wish they come in color black instead of just white. The chassis get dirty easily. + The screen is nice and bright. + Fan noise is quieter than most gaming laptops i have touch. + Amazing performance for its size. - The included "stand" is a joke. - It is bigger than expected. Recommend checking in person first - Very poor battery life out of the box. - Only one USBC port

I wasn't even in the market for this, but with everyone talking about it, I decided to do my own research. After a few days, I decided it would likely outdo my laptop so I'd give it a go. What an amazing little handheld. It comes with a full Windows 11 OS with overlays made by Asus. Whatever you can load onto Windows can be loaded on here. It's incredibly intuitive and user-friendly. The comfort is right where it needs to be. If I had to list any cons, it does get pretty hot and the battery drains pretty quick when you're running on performance settings. Clearly, both of those would be expected. Overall, very happy.

Very good handheld with lots of horsepower. It will run most modern games at 1080P and 30+ frames per second. It handles any indy game with ease at 120 frames per second. I can easily play Space Marine 2, Black Myth Wukong, Helldivers 2 without too much trouble. Obviously they dont run as well as on a console or PC, but that's expected on a handheld device. However, I think the price is a bit much, the battery has a very short life, and the ergonomics stink. If you can grab it at a discount or on sale, you'll be very happy. I also have a Steamdeck and I think there are pros and cons to both. The steamdeck is more user friendly and has a better UI/UX and ergonomics. However, the Ally beats the steamdeck on all performance metrics.

On my 2nd one. Gonna start with the bad. I'm the first 1. Everything was working fine. Only problem i had is one time it completely crashed and deleted everything. Had to go into bios and re download the asus software. After that it was great, just the analog stick messed up. On my 2nd one which i will return shortly for a replacement, but do keep in mind i booby this one open box in "excellent condition" it wouldbof been great saving $100 except for the fact on this model as soon as you enterva sd card, no matter if a high speed, new or one with games ore installed, the device will just literally freeze. Once you remove the sd card everything works fine again. If it wasnt for this one deal breaker for me, I'd of kept this one but sadly it looks like I'm going to just have to give up and extra $100 for a new unit and hope their are no problems with this one. Luckily i have a total tech membership. Still in my opinion better than a steam deck and thats the reason i sold mine for this. For the fact i can play what i want when i want with slightly better performance. To give the steam deck credit, it never once crashed on me amd everything worked as simple as plug and play so i give it props. To bad its on Linux and not all launchers, games, anti cheat or apps such as game pass work on it with out having to do some YouTube research.

I freaking love it! I have a steam deck and its a great handheld, but the Ally is superior in a lot of ways. The Ally's controls, power and weight are the main plus for me, but the only downside is the windows 11 bloat and slightly janky UI. Overall thought it's a fantastic purchase and I would personally recommend it over all the options if you want a great handheld PC at a decent price point.

I have enjoyed the gaming experience on the Ally. The Xbox adaptation of a controller feels more comfortable than my steam deck. The screen is great and Star Field runs just below 60 fps on med graphics. I still use a lot of my steam library on the Asus Rog Ally. The 512gb is a little small for AAA games. I’ll pick up my 2tb ssd Friday. I bought a reconditioned model and you can’t even tell it was used. Best Buy does a great job with the used merchandise. I would definitely recommend this handheld if you have a steam deck or not.

Really wish I could give half stars, cause it is really a 4.5, but oh well. Thing is a beast, screen is great, speakers are awesome. On top of that software support has been frequent and given huge quality of life upgrades as it has gotten more mature. Only knock is the battery life tbh, but that is only worth half a star to be honest as it is a nice to have, not a need for me personally.

Very handy device to own. I use it frequently as a mobile computer with keyboard and mouse accessories. Gaming on this is convenient and sufficient in performance depending on your settings and the type of game played. I use remote streaming play features with steam on my desktop computer and it works well. The one negative feedback is that my devices and card reader stopped working like many others having experienced, there are no real solutions and warranty repair is your only option, however it could happen again and again. I decided to purchase a USB split dongle so I can use a portable SSD to store extra games while playing and charging.

For all its faults, such as some software being not great when I first got it and AMD drivers being hit or miss with certain renderers I would definitely recommend this handheld. If you dont want to spend that much on an Ally X at this point, until the X goes on sale, this is a great option.

Note: I am receiving a warranty extension from ASUS for my feedback, however this has not affected my review. This device is just awesome. The screen is beautiful. VRR on a handheld is an absolute game changer. I personally love having Windows 11 on a handheld and the flexibility that it allows is unparalleled. Games run smooth and I can install them from Xbox, Steam, Epic, etc. Anywhere you’d install from on a desktop PC. And honestly, it runs games really well, too! There are some sites that give the best settings for games and I highly recommend checking them out. They help a lot. The major flaws that I’ve encountered are one that’s very commonplace and one that seems to have just happened to me. There’s a very high chance that your SD card reader will get fried and stop functioning—along with any SD card that’s in it. This may or may not have been fixed, though it’s unlikely. It’s just very unfortunately located in an area of the device that gets way too hot. The other issue for me was that my first unit had a cracked open shell brand new out of the box. I guess the backplate was warped and quality control isn’t great so they shipped it out anyway. After exchanging it, I got a unit without the issue. All in all, I’d say that this is the best gaming handheld. Stick with the Z1 Extreme and enjoy the power in your hands!

Im an avid console gamer but wanted something a bit more substantial than a Nintendo Switch to game in bed or while the wife is using the main tv. This machine is more than capable and can run most modern titles flawlessly. My only complaint is the battery life which leaves much to be desired and i wish they offered more colors. I highly recommend for those looking gor a portable gaming pc.
