Amazing portable pc for gaming
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is amazing. I had recently sold my acer nitro 5 laptop due to the fact it could no longer handle triple a games. The ally on the other hand seems to handle those games flawlessly. The screen is bright and very vivive, speakers have great and crisp quality sound and the gameplay is mostly flawless. Initial set up was somewhat time consuming due to the many settings and configurations in windows and steam etc. However not that my ally is set up and all my Games are installed it is by far one of the superior handheld gaming experiences ive ever had. Keep or up asus!!!

Great Performance and Price (Steam Deck Owner)
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Performance: Pickup day 1, loaded Diablo 4 (70+ fps @19W manual, 720p, medium FSR Performance, 100+ fps on turbo) runs buttery smooth. I also tested other games like with solid fps CyberPunk 2077, Street Fighter 6 and Lost Ark. The performance is great and it run extremely quite especially compared to other devices. Comfort: Overall good comfort for long play sessions. It’s size and weight are well balanced and it has a premium feel compared to the steam deck. The analog sticks were surprisingly great given how loose they initially feel. Buttons and triggers feel great and the rumble works really well. Speakers: Asus knock it out of the park with the audio on this one with Dolby atoms the speakers sound amazing, better than most gaming Laptops I’ve owned. They get really load, 50% volume is plenty and with my IEMs 40% volume. My best comparison for these speakers would be like experiencing the difference between a standard windows laptop and a MacBook Pro. Microphone: I test the microphone using discord and they are also top notch, and according to those I test with sounds like high quality gaming headphone mic. One caveat is you may need to adjust a setting in Armory Crate to get them sounding this good. Armory Crate -> Settings -> Audio -> Microphone Modes (on) -> check Cardioid Mode Conclusion: All wasn’t great I ran into an issue with LB button always firing/not registering input, this was intermittent and mainly noticed outside of games. For this reason I’m returning the current unit and ordered a new one. TLDR: Overall, barring the minor issue I encountered with LB a great device well with the price. Most comparable handhelds are closer to $1k with poor support and long waiting periods for crowdfunding campaigns.

Needs improvement
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was fun until the two week mark hit and issues happened. I would get kicked out of games. Device gets too hot. Battery life isn’t spectacular. My SD memory card randomly want readable by the device nor was I able to see my storage information, but even the internal storage. If these issues were fixed, I would have given a 4 or 5 starts.

Great device
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ally is what i have been looking for in a handheld pc for a long time. I have been been using the ally since its release. The performance is great runs most games at medium to low at high fps. The 120hz screen is fantastic even though you can't get the full 120 in games you usually get around 80-90 in most AAA titles. The controls are great no issues with button stick and thumb sticks are really nice and quite conpareble to a ps5 or xbox controller.

The best handheld system that I ever had
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It runs Windows so it is buggy sometimes. But overall it is the best. Good performance, outstanding capacity, stunning screen. Battery is my only complaint

Asus ROG Ally-Up!!!!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus Rog Ally is taking handheld computer gaming to the next level. I am enjoying myseld taking many of my games on the go, no matter what store they are linked to. Steam, EpicGames, Ubisoft Connect, EA, and GoG, the Ally is very capable at playinh any game at 1080p at low settings. With that said, the only downside to the Ally is its battery life, which can last a good hour and half or so. In any case, I hope the Ally forces Steam to mKe revolutionary improvements to the Deck. As an owner of both devices, the Ally is currently beimg used the most. Great buy overall.

Rog Ally
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like this device .I have a steam deck also but im really enjoying the rog ally.If your not computer savvy just look up videos i know this can put some people off, this device is not plug and play. You have to tinker a bit with it.The screen looks great performance is good im hopping with some more updated we see a bit more performance out of it thats the problem with pc gaming we are always looking for more performance lol chasing that fps.

Cool but not functional
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Holding this and playing AAA PC games on such a small device feels like you are using technology from the future. However, the compromises you have to make as a user to get a good experience cancels out any of the wow factor. The only way I got my games to run at a tolerable framerate was setting the resolution to 720p and there is no way the Ally can run a AAA title at 120Hz, regardless of settings. This completely defeats the purpose of featuring a 1080p screen at that framerate imo. The battery burns super quickly and I couldn't get more than 90 minutes out of it off the charger. Windows is not meant to be run on such a small screen and being someone with bigger hands, I really struggled to select options on smaller menus. Steam Big Picture mode works okay, but would really prefer to have a dedicated OS to handle this. 512 GB native storage is insanely limited in 2023 and the SD Card barely works. Windows 11 sucks on a PC but ESPECIALLY on this tiny screen and ASUS software is super janky. This device is certainly an indicator of the direction that PC gaming can go, but it's way too early for me to adopt and take it seriously to replace my gaming PC.

An untamed beast!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Loving this device so far however I do have concerns with the hardware issues that are circulating, thankfully I don't have any of them so far. I had a steam deck and sold it a few days after and haven't missed it ever since. This device is more powerful, lighter, screen is better. They're so many things that are better than the SD. I don't have a gaming PC anymore so this is a must have for ppl wanting to get back into pc gaming or emulation.

Great Multifunctional Handheld Gaming Device
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a handheld that is a good competitor to the Steam Deck but not tied down to one gaming service. This is essentially a good handheld windows 11 gaming device that can be used for steam, Xbox, epic, etc. I am thrilled with it and its flexibility; wish battery life was a bit better but can’t have it all. It’s relatively light for the power and battery life that it comes with and those who dive in won’t be disapponted .

Great but not perfect
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device is amazing. I have played every single game that i want from indie to AAA titles flawlessly. This is definitely a PC experience in a handheld. Do not think this is a console experience that is easy to navigate. It definitely needs tinkering but as a long time PC user its expected. As of now 7/22/23 it has a problem with the sd slot overheating and frying, to get around this i have installed a 1tb SSD and stayed away from the sd card slot. I would give it less stars if i ran into this problem but as of now i am completely happy with the device.

Worth a buy!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG plays game much better than i honestly thought. I mostly play Elden Ring on it. At max (in game) settings, i get a consistent 30fps. With some system tweaks, I can regularly get 90min of game time on battery. with some mods, i can even play World of Warcraft. The only downside is the same with all these handhelds, and that's battery life.

Perspective from a hardcore vs casual
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.People will question between the Steam Deck and Asus Rog Ally. Easy to put it, a Steam Deck is a console and a Rog Ally is full windows machine. I'll admit if you're not use to efficiently optimizing the Rog Ally from windows bloatware(MS teams - running apps in task manager, knowing what drivers to get), you'll be frustrated. You'll need to put in the effort in it, to get the most out of it unlike the Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck. However, once you tinkered the Rog Ally the performance is amazing! I play a lot of single-player games. There are 3 modes - low, performance, & turbo. I always try to use low-power mode and try to get 60fps so I get longer battery life. Dark souls 3 60fps at 900p medium settings. Lies of P 55fps at 900p but in performance mode 120fps! Cyberpunk -all low settings - fsr2 turned on - 900p = 50fps. I usually don't use turbo mode because it sounds like a jet engine and it'll drain my battery but I can bet it'll get me more fps. Pros - Great specs! Z1 extreme is comparable to a GTX 1650/1060 or ps4. Has built-in AMD FSR and AMD RIS that can be used anywhere. Its pretty much making the image sharper and upscaling it. Why is this good? Because not all games used upscaling or image sharpening enhancement. However, if a game supports a better FSR like 2 and soon 3, definitely use that for best image and fps. You are the admin. Download whatever you want. Epic game store or xbox game pass. Download wii u emulators to play Zelda. Cons - People will either love and hate the feel of the Asus Rog. I think its trash. Holding it for awhile will numb my palms. Get a case from like Skull & Co. it will even the playing field with the Steam deck. Staying up to date with drivers or bios on community updates. It can be a hassle for many and at times these updates will take away fps. Pretty much do at your own risk or wait and see from the community. - Recommend RogAlly reddit. I have recency bias. I'll admit it and it's early for me to run into SD issues. I have a cheap 32gb sd card inserted with some PS2 roms. Let's see if it'll fry it.

Worth the money
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s a beautiful device with comfortable ergonomics, a gorgeous screen, and reasonable power given its size. The software is a little buggy at times and this can cause games to crash when opening or closing them, nothing that can’t be fixed by software updates. I own both the SteamDeck and the Ally and both get used, the Ally typically stays home and tethered to a power cord due to the battery life…it’s not great. The Ally excels when running at Turbo 30W and will use up the battery in an hour and a half. It’s a great product and I don’t regret my purchase.

Amazing For It’s Size and Price!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works amazingly, this little thing is capable of delivering steady FPS while working in heat and on power. Went on a road trip recently and as you might know, you would get bored if you’re just a passenger so I took my ROG Ally! Thing kept me entertained for 2 hours before it died, delivered 60 FPS constantly with maybe one or two frame drops all while the sun from the window hitting it. I love it, and I feel like it would also be an amazing gift for a young gaming child that would love PC gaming without the commitment and added cost.

Great Mini Handheld PC
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love how its basically a Windows 11 version of a Steamdeck. Works great as a handheld PC. Plays most games well and have slightly better hardware than the steamdeck. I love how lightweight it is and the feel in hand is slightly better than the steamdeck. The ROG armory crate software is a bit jank and needs Asus fixing, but it still runs fine and can still function. My device doesnt have the SD card issues others are reporting, but I also dont run my ally very hard either. Its worth a buy; especially if you enjoy the Steamdeck but want better hardware.
