Customers are saying

Customers are enthusiastic about the product's strong overall performance, portability, and excellent screen quality, along with its impressive game compatibility and lightweight design. However, a significant concern for many users is the mediocre battery life. Additionally, some customers have experienced issues with the SD card reader, and there are desires for improved heat dissipation and greater storage capacity.

I enjoy the size, portability and premium feel of this handheld pc gaming device. Asus has continually been pushing updates out to improve the software experience. After returning the Legion Go due to the shoddy software, the Ally is a much better device for gaming on the go.

The system works great, but the setup is rough. You have to go through many system crashes and re enter the same information over and over. Once you get the system updated then it works very well for such a small computer. I use with a 65” HDTV so screen size is not a problem. The onboard 7” screen is clear and easy to use but I am old and can’t see small stuff so well. All and it was worth the money.

The performance doesn't disappoint.Powered by a robust set of internals, games run smoothly with impressive graphics, demonstrating that ASUS didn't compromise power for portability. The display offers vivid colors and sharp details, ensuring that every in-game moment is captured with clarity.

Best part of this device is the screen. Super vibrant and contrast ratio is much better than my Steam Deck with a lot less backlight glow (though still wish it could have been OLED.) As far as power, this thing does magic for a handheld. Haven't had any issues running the games I want to play with decent framerates. My main issue is the ASUS software. Armory Crate is just really buggy. Often times in the quick menu, options will just completely freeze up and not work. I don't think the FPS limiter works at all. It makes doing any minor adjustments a bit of a pain. Hopefully, just like Valve, ASUS will continue to support this product with software updates to make it something truly special.

A pleasant surprise, works really well, and plays all my games without any challenges so far with very high responsiveness in high detailed modes. Light weight so easy to hold and play for couple of hours. Pretty good first attempt for a handheld PC

Great upgrade from a Steam Deck

I'm sure many of the reviews are bringing up hardware problems. I've had none. My purchase is still working perfectly after about a month. I do believe many of the issues are from people that aren't familiar with Windows. They likely did not run on the updates on the software and drivers and became frustrated with performance because of that. It's not a console. It's a laptop in a handheld format. It requires software updates just like any other computer. I'm sure there are people with legitimate issues, but I've had none. I purchased the Ally as an upgrade from the Steam Deck. The 1080p, paired with the fast CPU and GPU makes it a far better choice for me. The screen alone is worth the upgrade. The Ally running on Windows allows you to install any launcher (not just Steam) without issues. You could do the same on the Steam Deck, but it basically required you to install a 3rd party launcher to launch your other launchers. Always seemed ridiculous to me. Basically, know that it's just a laptop in a different format. If you are comfortable with that and the Windows OS, you'll love it.

Very nice portable Diablo 4 box. Plays everything I own within reason. There are SD card reader issues; however with the ease of upgrading the NVME drive I don't use the reader anyways. So far updates after purchase have been fairly regular.

A tiny handheld computer. Able to play Steam and other PC games on the Ally. Fits my hands perfectly (female). Speakers are plenty loud enough. Screen is bright and clear. Never any lag or blur. External storage. Minimal setup. I prefer it over my son's Steam Deck. I think he might be jealous!

Consider the black model with better performance, battery life, and storage instead of the base white model with the z extreme chip. The 1080p/120hz claim is achievable only with the 65w wall charger. Without an outlet, play on low settings under 60fps for about an hour and a half on a full charge. The Ally X model is a worthy competitor to the Steam Deck. The base model is disappointing.

      Dear Robbie,

      Thank you for your feedback.

Indeed, the ROG Ally X or the black version offers significant upgrades in performance, battery, and storage over the original white ROG Ally model, a larger battery, more storage size, faster RAM and improve ergonomics and design.

Bought this as a gift. It’s great as long as you keep in mind that this is a tablet with a controller strapped to it. Runs games well but battery life is short off of charge.

Great little mobile gaming device that can be stand alone PC when you need it. Just know that you need to alter game settings to have a smooth expierence, but even then the games still look fantastic. Games I've played so far Cyberpunk 5/5, Chivalry 5/5, Starfield 3/5 (They're still ironing out some kinks), Baldur's Gate 3 2/5 (There are some setting to tweak, but imo it's does not play well and looks like PS2 Graphics), GTA V 5/5, Payday 5/5, and more. I travel extensively for work and some situations a standard gaming laptop is not viable in the passenger seat of car or plane. The only issue I have is battery life, but you want to be plugged in to take advantage of turbo mode. I do reccomend a stylus and a protective screen if you have giant hands. The fans arent too noticeable, but they're audible when gaming in bed in the evening. I really enjoy watching movies and series on it and packed with an SD card or expanded SSD it is nice. Definitely invest in a docking station to game on larger screens.

Debated with myself for a while on whether to pull the trigger and get a Rog Ally, and I can’t say that I have been disappointed. Not a big windows person myself so wasn’t sure if it was for me. Would definitely recommend buying even if sitting on the fence about it. You can’t beat gaming while on the go!

Its a good little handheld system. Takes a bit to learn how to optimize gameplay. The positives is you get access to the entire steam deck library. The negatives are you can buy an xbox series x or ps5 for less then this handheld console and they run aaa games much better. However i travel alot and find lugging around a handheld console and dock are much easier then trying to bring my series x everywhere i go. Keep the ally plugged in and set to turbo mode for optimized gameplay. A 1080p 7 inch screen can get real muddy on fast paced games but they are at least playable. The daving grace of the ally is the windows 11 operating system making the rog ally essentially a mini gaming cpu. Just not sure if the price tag is enough bang for the buck.

This an amazing device on the bleeding edge. Windows has little quirks and isn't setup for a handheld, but Linux can't beat its combability with games and ant-cheat. It's fast and the 120hz VRR screen is bright and just amazing for a handheld.

This is not a handheld gaming device. This is a powerful handheld device that plays games. With Windows 11 and Office 365 cloud sync, I leave my laptop on my desk grab this and I can work then game, game then work u get the picture. I work in IT security and use both Mac and Windows along with my tools these laptops makes my bag very heavy then the power brick for the gaming laptop easily over 25lbs. I grabbed this my backpack feels like air now. If you are a bit on the Geek Squad of things. (Shameless plug lol) I have a Doc that allows full 30 honestly this can take over as a daily driver. I render a video faster on the Ally than my Mac Book Pro. Crazy!!!
