I travel quite regularly and initially purchased this to use while traveling, however, I quickly realized that this small device is quite capable at home as well. The screen is small, so when a prompt for a game pops up it may be difficult to read the available actions or responses. I have recommended this to a couple of friends who have had laptops fail recently as an alternative to an expensive laptop. Obviously, it is not going to be a powerful, workhorse gaming system, however, it is very capable. I have used this plugged into my 49" widescreen through a KVM and even there it has been very capable. Last thought, plan on buying a larger hard drive since the 512GB it comes with is not very large.

Super powerful handheld! Love that it has full blown windows 11 on it. Plays Resident Evil Village, Borderlands 3, and Final Fantasy X and X-2 like a champ. Only complaint is the battery life, but thats not enough for me to rate it lower, i love the thing. Beats the heck out of the Steamdeck

lovely light weight handheld and requires a lot of time to tweak by hand. This is not a steam deck if you learn how to tweak you will get better performance and better battery life. Here are some example: A typical AAA game requires at leart 25w to 30w power to run 6o fps. But you will see the device struggles to balance the power between cpu and igpu. You need to learn how to lock your cpu and igpu frequency. For most of the AAA games, a good setting shall be cpu: 2.5 to 3ghz, igpu 2ghz. A medium or low setting game usually targets 15 w power. You shall set cpu to 2.2 to 2.8ghz, igpu 1.4ghz. A medium 2d or light 3d game shall target a 10 to 12 w power. You shall set cpu to 1.5 to 2 ghz, igpu 0.8 to 1.0ghz A light weight 2d game target 7 to 8 w. cpu 1.5 ghz, igpu 0.6 ghz. And if you limit the fps to static 60fps or lower, you should have a smoother and battery saving experience.

I have truly enjoyed playing the Ally. It does come with some quirks, but largely it fits the type of gaming I've been looking for. I can play it anywhere, or attach to a dock and play like a console. It can play pretty much any game you throw at it, without losing too much in terms of quality.

Excellent device. I wanted a handheld device that is powerful, quiet, and has a great screen. The ROG Ally checks all the boxes. I can casually game in pretty much any environment and do not have to worry about the fans getting obnoxiously loud. If you set yourself up with realistic expectations, this device is great. With that being said, don’t expect to be able to play on battery for several hours at a time and don’t expect a console like software experience. Running a AAA game on battery in a handheld device with a 7 inch screen on low to medium settings is pretty impressive for the technology that’s available today. Even if it’s only for an hour or two. Also it’s a windows machine so you will need to download your gaming platforms manually and setup like a windows device, but that should be expected.

For their first handheld PC I’m very pleased with the performance from this APU. Anyone complaining about performance is obviously not familiar with APUs. This is extremely powerful for what it is. Would I use it as my only gaming device NO. I have PC for that but to be able to pick up where I left on from my main system is worth it in itself! I’ve been running Red Dead Redemption 2 at 900p low setting (ultra textures) and stay at around 35-40 fps. The game still looks great on such a small display. All in all not really worth it if you plan to make it your main gaming device (at least for newer AAA titles) but for older less demanding games this will crush whatever you can throw at it!

Plays great, for a short period of time. AAA titles will give you roughly 1-1.5 hours of playtime, so far so good! Typically im playing during my lunch break and an hour is just the right amount

ASUS ROG ALLY is a beast of a handheld!

The ASUS ROG ALLY is quite literally the best bang for your buck handheld, by far. I picked up a 2TB m.2 to swap the original 512GB and was quite impressed at how simple and straightforward the installation of the drive was. Alao, the reinstallation of the operating system was very simple and straightforward as well. Man, I primarily use it for retro gaming but works well with my XBOX Game pass. I can't stop talking about this device. I highly recommend this to anyone.

Its daily use with jobs, applications or videos works well for Windows 11, I recommend having a keyboard, mouse, and a monitor for more comfortable use. Only with games: It works perfectly, although the battery issue becomes a limitation, but when connected to the charger it can be used quite well.

Love my Ally, I enjoy the work needed to make this device suit me. I understand it is not plug and play for most things. Great machine, lots to do and fine tune. Lots to learn and tinker with. Runs my emulators easily and runs Diablo. Cons are the battery life, its not necessarily bad. I get about an hour ad a half playing Fallout New Vegas on High settings and in performance mode. For me that's about the time I have to play a game usually uninterrupted so this works. There aren't many accessories, it is a guessing game with 3rd party cases at the moment. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys the project of setting up a device and satisfaction of learning through trial and error. I wouldn't recommend it to someone coming from a home console expecting a similar experience.

Amazing portable gaming powerhouse! Beats the steam deck in every way except being a console. This beast is a full fat windows 11 PC and will play almost every pc game you own. It's a tweekers dream, I was able to squeeze 100+ frames out of doom E and play call of duty when doody called.

Great piece of tech. Have been using this to play some newer games i've missed since getting rid of my PC. Was able to run most modern games at 60 fps with some quick adjustment to the settings. Battery life leaves a lot to be desired but thats to be expected for what this handheld is doing.

If you have a steam deck and want the ally, it would be like upgrading from a gtx 1660 to an rtx 3050 ti. The jump in fps is mind boggling. Beamng runs monster trucks at around a solid 50 fps on any map, bo3 gets around 70/80 on everything maxed, modern warfare 2019 gets 60 fps on high settings and spider man remastered gets 30/40 fps on high settings and because it’s amd, the graphics chip hasn’t even reached its full potential and is nowhere near reaching its full potential as the device is so new. After lots of updates, it will be able to run pretty much anything you throw at it. Very good device and have been absolutely loving it so far.

Where's the ROG XG Mobile suggestions

Compared to a steam deck, it is noticeably smaller and lighter which minimizes fatigue to the wrists. The faster refresh rate on the small screen seems to ease the strain of focusing your eyes on fast moving scenes. I was not offered to purchase an ROG XG Mobile eGPU Dock which bothered me somewhat at the time as the prices for them on ASUS website was not the same as in store. It can be a very vital component in the productive use of this handheld and essentially unlocks the potential of the device as both a powerful 8 core 16 thread DDR5 computational machine and a portable home entertainment device which can fully utilize the high refresh rates of modern televisions. My ROG Ally will completely replace my entire home desktop and have a smaller footprint as well as use less electricity overtime with just the addition of an ASUS - ROG XG Mobile eGPU Dock - AMD Radeon RX 6850 XT in particular which has the HDMI 2.1 so that i would be able to run an LG C2 at 120Hz, and also a QHD monitor via display port
