    The Ultimate Gaming Handheld

As a Nintendo Switch and PS4 owner, ROG Ally is now my main gaming platform. The Ally can play nearly every Sony PC port between 40 and 60fps (which is sometimes better than the base PS4 performance), and the Steam, Epic Games, and Xbox libraries provide thousands of amazing games from the last 30 years at prices way lower than you'd find on any console, thanks to frequent sales. The screen is amazing in everything from dark rooms to broad daylight, and the fact that this is also a Windows computer allows for a ridiculous amount of versatility. Storage can fill up fast, but a 512gb micro SD card can cost as little as $26, and with the most recent update the card should last you the entire lifespan of your Ally. Cannot recommend this enough to people.

A great little portable machine for light gaming on the go. Battery life isn't great, particularly with graphically intense games, but that's usually not that great of a concern for me since the Ally has allowed me to play more games that I wouldn't have had time for otherwise due to needing to turn on a laptop/desktop and be at a place where playing on those machines is comfortable.

Its a PC in your hands. Operates well, isnt as heavy as i thought it would feel. Hinestly the only downside to this is the battery life, but that can be solved with an external battery pack. Definitely worth it if you like to game on the go.

Arrived just in time. Screen looks amazing, great performance and easy to use. I loved this devices, but it had a sticky X button that was getting stuck all the time. Besides that everything worked well.

For what it is, the ROG Ally is pretty good at what it does. This is a hand held computer that runs off Windows 11. You get the opportunity to play nearly any game that runs on windows, but you may not get the smooth user experience thst you’d get with a device that was built around gaming as the center piece. The battry life leaves much to be desired since the highest power mode hsually lends to the “best” gaming experience. One of the biggest perks are you get the opportunity to upgrade the internal storage if you wish and the thermals aren’thalf bad for what it is. The only gripes are the issues surrounding the SD Card reader along with the clubky UI.

This is truly a mobile gaming PC. For heavy duty gaming, make no mistake you will need to have it plugged into power or you might get an hour or so on battery. For less graphic intense gaming (indie, board games, etc) you can adjust power and get a decent amount of battery life. I have been able to run everything I've wanted from Steam, emulators and downloads. It can take some tweaking and playing with settings to get graphics and controls working right, but usually telling the program you are using a Microsoft 360 control will get everything working right. The sound kicks butt for such a small unit. Coming from the switch, the difference is incredible. You can get an accessory plug with monitor and USB connection making this a potential laptop replacement. Full windows functionality. I really have zero complaints.

Handheld gaming PC for 1/2 the price of a traditional gaming laptop. This device is not perfect. The battery life is not that great but the performance is on par. Not all games are compatible with the ROG just like the steam deck but more and more are becoming so. You can connect a keyboard/mouse via bluetood. Perfect for those who are traveling but hope theres a plug near by if you plan to use it for more than 1.5hours. No issues with heat like most ROG products.

This thing is a powerhouse in your hands. It’s a little beefier than a Nintendo Switch, but it’s built solid and feels premium. You’re getting a 7-inch screen with 1080p resolution and a slick 120Hz refresh rate, so everything looks crazy smooth. Plus, it’s comfy to hold for long sessions, which is a huge win if you’re gaming on the go or just chilling on the couch. Inside, it’s packing the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip, which is a fancy way of saying it can handle a lot. Games like Elden Ring run decently well on this thing – we’re talking around 30 frames per second at 1080p if you max out the settings. Lighter games? No problem; you can push higher frame rates and it handles it all fine. The screen is one of the best parts. The colors pop, and with that 120Hz refresh rate, everything feels buttery smooth. It’s also got AMD FreeSync tech, which basically means less annoying screen tearing when you’re deep in the action. Indoors, the brightness is solid, but don’t expect much visibility in bright sunlight – it’s more of an indoor beast. Battery life is where things get a bit iffy. You get about two hours of battery if you’re playing something intense at 1080p. But if you’re going hardcore in Turbo mode (which ramps up performance), expect more like 50 minutes to an hour before you need to plug in. For chill gaming sessions with easier games or lower settings, though, you’ll get closer to four hours. It runs Windows 11, so it’s like a mini-PC in your hands. You can load up Steam, Xbox Game Pass, Epic Games – whatever you want. It’s all there, but Windows on a handheld can feel a bit clunky, honestly. Asus has this Armoury Crate app that helps organize your games and tweak settings, which makes life a little easier, but it’s still Windows. The ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is a pretty sweet piece of tech. It’s got solid performance, a gorgeous screen, and access to all your PC games, making it perfect for gamers who want power without lugging around a laptop. Battery life is the one downside if you’re pushing it to its limits, but with some settings adjustments, you can make it work for longer sessions. If you’re down with the price, it’s a solid grab for portable PC gaming.

Pros: -It's powerful. -It feels nice in hand and is lighter than it looks, -Superior ergonomics to the switch, no claw hands. -It runs Windows so no compatibility issues there. Cons: -Chews through its battery when pegged but older games can get away with running on the lowest performance profile so your mileage may vary on that topic. -It runs Windows, with all the downsides that come with that like updates at inopportune moments, login PIN randomly breaking locking you out of your device, etc. -Configurable trackpads like the Deck would be nice.

Bought in 2024 and used for over a year before upgrading. Honestly even the newest handhelds arent much better. There is an issue with turbo mode but i beleive there was a firmware update that fixed it. Either way asus fixed my device quickly without any hassle and it was covered under warranty

I'm thrilled with my purchase of the ASUS ROG Ally. This laptop is a beast in terms of performance, delivering smooth operation in all my tasks, from intensive gaming to multitasking work. The sound is impressive, with quality that truly enhances my gaming and entertainment experience. My only minor gripe would be the battery life, which could be a bit longer for added convenience during long commutes. However, overall, I would highly recommend this product to anyone in need of a powerful and reliable laptop for their gaming or work needs.

Disclaimer - I play both console and PC games on a regular basis, but I'm not a hardcore gamer. This is more of a casual gamer's review. With that in mind, I'll say that this product REALLY impresses me, especially the screen size and ergonomic design. I can play on this for hours without my hands feeling cramped or tired, and I like the screen and design much better than other handhelds in its class. *BUT* there are some important things to know before you buy. One is that you can't really play for hours unless you're plugged in. The high-performance mode of gameplay is only going to be active while you're plugged in to a power supply. When you're not plugged in, performance does suffer (it's a slight change to me, but hardcore gamers will definitely be bothered by it), and you also only get about 1.5 hours of gameplay out of it when unplugged (maybe 2h if you're lucky). Another major downside is the lack of ports. There's a headphone jack and it does have the ability to connect via bluetooth, but there is only the one USB-C port. You can plug in devices (I use AR glasses with mine), but you can't plug the Ally in to charge while anything else is plugged in to it. You need a very special adapter to be able to do that (I tried a handful that didn't work, so do research before you waste your money). Lastly, and to some people very importantly, the Ally is famous for burning through SD card slots. I'm not 100% clear on whether it burns through the cards or the slot itself, but so far it seems like the majority of reports say that it's the slot itself. Sure enough, we purchased an SD card for extra storage space, and within 1 week of play the Ally already couldn't recognize any SD cards that were plugged in. I'm not a techie, but it seems like putting the SD card slot at the hottest part of the device wasn't the greatest idea... Anyway, in summary, this is a good product but it DEFINITELY has its limitations, and I would make sure to do your research and confirm these are all OK with you before you shell out the money for one of these!

An amazing portable device that lets you play all your PC titles on the go or even in desktop mode. Storage is way too small for nowadays and battery drains rapidly on intensive games. It has its flaws but could be improved with accessories and upgrades.

[Employee of bestbuy] The Ally is an amazing device perfect for playing games. It will take about a day to get it set up and do driver updates, but once you get everything set up the device works wonders. Definitely not a boot and play device, though. This is for more advanced users. I will say there are plenty of YouTube videos on how to optimize this device for your needs and help you get this set up which helped me a lot! Battery life is not the best, but for my needs I havent had many issues with it. I suggest when playing battery you keep it on Performance mode as Turbo mode will really drain the battery. I think this device is the start of a new era of PC gaming for the general public.

This item from asus is a beast, cant hardly compare to the steam deck because it all comes down to “personal preference”. Yes this devices has come issues but they are not bad issues. The rog ally performs just as good and if not better than the steam deck. The comfort feels great in hand and there are alot of options due to having windows 11. Battery life drains really fast but what do you expect from a device that packs alot of tech. This is not a switch or some hand held gaming device that would hold hours of gaming. Just get a high watt battery bank and youll be set for a few extra hours. If compared to the steam deck, that product had issues when it was first launched but in time it gotten smoother and i feel like it would be the same with the rog ally because its fairly new, i just keep my ally plugged in while playing. Note, if its plugged in to a higher watt charger. It performs better.

I've always been a dedicated console gamer and never ventured into the PC realm but i decided to take a chance with this system. It was a definite shock to my brain trying to wrap it around the ins and out of PC gaming in a handheld but i managed to get the hang of it after watching A LOT of tutorial videos on youtube. I mostly use this for emulating older games from PS1, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, SNES and Genesis. I love that i can play these older games on the go. Its very true about the short battery life but overall its a great handheld system.

Overall very minor issues with this thing, but if you do your research and you know what you are getting into, it shouldn't come as a surprise. Its great in that it is a fully functioning handheld PC. The UI is a little buggy at times. Games great. Runs AAA titles at a solid 60 fps as long as it is plugged in. When it's not plugged in the boost is ever so slightly lower and the battery is somewhat limited. Next version will have an upgraded battery life. All in all i love it for what I use it for.
