My entire life I've only been a console gamer. I've wanted to build a PC, but as I've gotten older my time to dedicate to gaming has decreased. The ROG Ally was the perfect thing to be able to play games that are on steam and PS5 that I can't on my xbox. I have owned this for about 6 months now without issue. If you're looking for something to take on the go and scratch that PC itch like I had, look no further. I would recommend upgrading the SSD to 2 TB which I did as soon as I unboxed it (super easy to do). If you plan on playing on the go, you'll definitely want a powerbank or access to outlets.

the ROG ally is amazing. I can hang out with my wife where ever she is and still be able to play my ever growing game library. I'm in school 12 hours a day 5-6 days a week and I found that I was not allowing myself anything that I enjoyed. This has allowed me to get back into one of my favorite hobbies. IT IS A WINDOWS COMPUTER. That means you will have to tinker with settings, deal with bugs, and still sometimes get some headaches. It is not plug and play, but if you are used to PC gaming this is a tremendous tool in your toolbox. I was mourning the money I spent at first, but after 2 hours with it playing cyberpunk on my couch while my wife watched tv as we chit chat made it all worth it.

[Employee of bestbuy] Considering some mid tier GPUs are $600-700, this is a great buy for portable gaming. I'll probably mostly use it for emulation but it's nice to know I can play modern games on the go with 60+ fps.

It was a nice device with some cosmetic flaws with "excellent condition". It was a little dirty than expected. I had to clean it. It still worked well but ended up returning it for the legion go. Highly recommended after updating drivers and software. It takes some learning to make it work out the box. Do not expect a console experience. It requires LOTS of tinkering. Battery life isn't that great either but if you're plugged in, it should be amazing! It's like a ps5 in your hands!

I have owned the Asus Rog Ally Extreme for over a week. I previously owned the Steam Deck Oled and have been curious about the ARA Extreme since its release. I was on the fence about the ARA because it is a Windows device and battery life. First off, the battery life of the ARA is not great but is comparable to the Steam Deck LCD version. The fan noise is a lot quieter than the Steam Deck OLED and I like that I can control the performance, CPU, etc. I love the color, form factor, and screen. I feel that the device is just enough for the casual gamer that I am. Lastly, Invest in a portable battery for the device. I recommend the Anker 735.

Big fan of this product. Love how im able to use it when im away from my PC to still remain playing with friends. The battery itself is short but with the introduction of these pc handhelds its not uncommon

I love this thing. It's taken some time to get it the way I wanted, but people need to look at this device as a windows computer first and handheld second. The same way you setup your gaming laptop is the way you will need to setup this device. Your going to need to setup windows, download and update all drivers, and your going to need to learn how to optimize windows for gaming. I really love this device I have been using it heavily every day since launch and it has worked flawlessly, no crashes, or weird issues. I have a steamdeck and this has replaced it. I recommend this device.

The first one that I purchased was an open box excellent, I returned it the next day as it wouldn't power on unless plugged in and even that was spotty at times. That made me lose faith in the open box so I just purchased a new one and it has been awesome! I can play any game I want at a reasonable frame rate (60fps) as long as you tweak the settings and the visuals are great. My brother who doesn't even game has played this for about 10 hours over the past week that we were together and is now going to buy his own. From what I've heard most open box experiences have been fine so mine may have been an isolated incident, I'd say it's worth a gamble with the best buy return policy and if you get a dud then just go for a new one.

So far is being good machine, except on turbo mode to be too hot, I really enjoy playing games on it. The sweet spot is to customize to 18 watts on playing games.

Sinister device! I use it for media playback and of course gaming. It can run any emulation of any console and even handle AAA games. Star Rail runs like a dream. Great idea on me to buy this.

I used this device on a recent 10+ flight. On performance mode, it got me a good few hours of playing time. I attached the usb charger from the airline seat, and although slow, added additional playing time. The controls were good, although a little uncomfortable holding up the device while playing. It really helped pass the time on a long flight. Being able to use this as a desktop computer also helped a lot while on vacation. Not sure I will use this while I'm at home, but definitely has huge advantages on the road. I played Titan Fall 2 on this trip and had no problems with the game. It played really well.

    Worth the hassle

The beauty of a steam deck is that it just works. The Ally, being based around a Windows OS, means that day to day use comes with more bugs and quirks, but overall its worth the added effort to have the flexibility. The extra processor power with rhe extreme chip doesn't just feel like an upgrade, it's borderline required for a good experience. I wouldn't recommend going with the slower processor, even if it costs you battery life. When it's working well the ROG Armoury is a fine games launcher, but sometimes it's easier to just open Steam or Epic. Where the system loses points for me is the mechanics of using Windows. The touchscreen is a saving grace of the system as it the windows experience does not translate to joysticks. If Asus could reslly focus on getting this part of the system right, it would be the clear best gaming handheld. But it's still worth the hassle.

Device works great, quick and easy in-store pickup. I got it to replace my LCD steam deck, and the performance gains have been noticeable, especially using the Turbo mode with an increased VRAM allocation. Though a bit awkward on a handheld device, I have appreciated having the Windows 11 OS as it allows me to easily do a lot of the non-gaming tasks that I normally have to do at my desktop PC at home.
