So close to great… but just misses the mark

But setting it up was a hassle. And the controllers have an input delay that make it hard to play shooters. Pretty disappointed with this thing tbh. But i feel like after a couple more software updates it could be great.

If you’re looking for just a gaming handheld there’s better options. The battery life on the ally is poor and it gets really hot.

The best handheld.

The Steam Deck is great, but it was frustrating looking at my library and seeing "not commpatible with Steam Deck." All you have to do is login to Xbox, Steam, Epic Games, whatever, download your games and they show up in Armoury Crate. Sure, it's a Windows device, but once you get it setup and running, it's a truly fantastic device.

However this is not a plug and play device, you must run updates, tweak settings for people who are not used to PC gaming and troubleshooting it may be a learning curve or a complete turn off. However once you dial things just right, the device is amazing.

Careful....

It's nice to be able play all my PC games on the Ally...it works well battery life at max performance is about 2 hrs. Don't use the SD card reader as it overheats potentially. Planning on upgrading the m.2 2230 SSD to 2tb and performing a battery mod.

It has the power of a PC and portability thats better than a laptop. I love this for when i have some time before classes when im bored. The overheating problem isnt too bad either. Overall great console.

Almost never used it sue to the quality of gameplay and the limited selection of games because of Steam OS. Sold the steam deck and got “Roggy”. Couldnt be happier with this handheld. Im able to play most AAA games with decent frames and any indie game is getting 120 frames lokking pristine! If houre considering getting a ROG Ally, stop thinking about it and do it.

Havent had a single issue with any game ive tried to run on it. I can even install my remote play and ps+ apps to play games from my ps5/ps+ subscription. Having a full Windows OS opens up much more possibilities than the Steamdeck. 10/10 purchase!

Armory Crate software seems pretty good for customizing controls and performance. Be wary of getting an open box product from Best Buy, my “excellent” one had a broken LB, don’t know how they missed that when checking it over.
