    The Asus Rog Ally has been a buggy mess. The first issue was that if you let it go to sleep, it wouldn’t wake up. It wouldn’t turn on with the power button or with any other button. Only a hard reset and then the device would power up. This happened twice and then I wouldn’t let it go to sleep. Then it made me reset my PIN for no good reason. Plus I never got the fingerprint sensor to work after I set it up. The next major issue was left speaker would go in and out. Typically once I started a game, suddenly the left speaker would stop working. I would restart the game and the speaker still wouldn’t work. I would reboot the device and the issue would persist. Once rebooting a second time and the left speaker came back. I don’t know why the left speaker would go in and out. The last straw was that I turned on the device and then the Rog Allly wouldn’t boot and instead showed the BitLocker recovery screen. I didn’t know what the key was, so I turned it off. It eventually booted up correctly, but then I knew that this device had serious issues. I don’t know how the device got reviewed so well. The screen is really the only standout feature. But so many things don’t work right with this device that weren’t captured in any review. And I bought the Steam Deck shortly after launch and that had a lot of bugs, but at least it always turned on. So I would recommend against buying a Rog Ally.

      If you are experiencing issues and performance issue with the device, please ensure Windows and drivers are up to date. Keeping Windows updated will maintain optimum system stability and performance.     An excellent device, the only complaint I truly have is battery life and even that isn't an issue as it can be played on a dock and connected to a monitor.

    Great replacement for my steam deck, windows is not as bad as they say works pretty smooth & very easy to use. This console feels quality built.

    While the device performs phenomenally when working unfortunately it does not yet seem to be ready for prime time. Unfortunate noticed issues included control stick dead zones that weren’t addressed by ASUS in the two weeks since launch. Additionally this device killed several SD cards and has occurred on multiple devices as well. Until these issues are resolved I can’t recommend this device

      All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, this is a random problem. ASUS provides warranty coverage for the product. In regards to the SD card issues, we request to provide us the brand, size and if it was working properly before it broke on the ROG Ally.     The ROG Ally has surpassed every expectation. This is everything I hoped the switch would be. The hardware is exceptional. It is quiet and cool when gaming. There are tons of options to tweak the settings to your liking. It runs windows 11 which is mostly ok. Not a perfect pairing, but with a little tweaking, this becomes mostly a non issue. Asus armory crate is better than I thought it would be. Steam big picture, Xbox game pass, battlenet all run really well. I’ve used this as a pc with a usb c dock as well. Connecting a mouse, keyboard and monitor was very easy. This worked really well and just worked.

    The gaming experience is good, while the unit works. The screen is phenominal, and the unit performs well. The control scheme is a pain and armoury crate frequently has issues changing controller schemes. The sd card reader will go out on you eventually, and the unit is plagued with power issues. My unit lasted around 20 days before it refused to recognize any charger and power up. The RMA process is the worst I have experienced from a tech company so far, and I have dealt with just about all of them.

    Incredible device. I installed a 2TB SSD. I am currently playing Bioshock Infinite at 1080p with everything set on ultra, getting 120FPS. One of the most innovative PC platforms in the last decade. Five enthusiastic stars.

    Fixed Joysticks: Removable joysticks are a fantastic feature like the Nintendo Switch and Lenovo Legion Go. Their tablet mode allows for more subtle use of the device. I rather pull out a tablet on the bus than look like a 3rd grader whipping out a Sega Game Gear and juicebox. Their absence in the Ally is a missed opportunity.

    Man, I really loved this little device but that SD card reader kept dying. I returned the first one for another device. Then the second device for a third device and by the end, I just gave up because the SD card reader just died each time. Other than that it's a phenomenal little device that's a laptop. I did some photo and video editing. It ran games I liked (Red Dead Redemption 2 and Hogwarts). I hooked up a dongle and had it connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse. It was amazing that I could have that kind of access to basic apps with a device that small. I loved it. Hence the two stars rather than one star. But the SD card reader died. It died three times in three devices. The issue was that the card reader no longer read cards or displayed a I/O error that last time. I did everything except send to ASUS. When I returned it the first time, the lady acknowledged that the ROG Ally was having that issue. The last time I took the device back, the Geek Squad guy did all he could before coming back saying the device was defective. In the end, I just couldn't trust the device anymore regardless of warranties or coverages.

    A great device with some initial set up pains. My main issue is the battery life, which is incredibly low. Also, be careful and read up on possible SD card issues.

    It blows even highest tier steam deck out of the water with hardware inside of it, and the freedom to add software as if it was a windows laptop is a huge win. Would recommend if you have the extra cash.
