Great handheld console with the update issues
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yesterday I got my rog ally and came home late after work to boot it up. Just fyi, this thing needs updates here and there and it gets really frustrating at that moment(like armory update, bios update, myasus update, graphics card update, etc) becuase it took almost 2 hours for me to update this newly arrived machine to make it up to date. This made me irritated. I just wanted to play game.. so after all these disaster, I finally installed my favorite game to test this console and it was just phenomenal. The main reason to buy this console was to play djmax respect on steam because my steamdeck couldn’t do constant 60fps and it kept bugging me. I thought this console maybe do little better on turbo mode but i was completely wrong! It can handle 120fps even with 15w performance mode which is great. I thought about taking 1 star off for all these updates hassle but I just can’t after experiencing my favourite game running flawlessly. I give it 5 stars though I wouldn’t really recommend rog ally to the others who don’t really know much about computer becuase this thing is way too complicated for those who never used windows pc.

It's a mini laptop with controls
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you get one with no hardware issues then this thing is amazing. This is not a switch, nor is it a steam deck. It's a windows laptop in small form with controls. If you go into it with that mind set you'll have a much better time. Once you tweak things the way you want it's great. I have a 25 watt limit (all 3 sliders) in manual mode while plugged in and 18 watt in handheld. I've tweaked it so the CPU does not "boost" so it runs sub 75c even at 25 watts with great performance and hardly any fan noise. However, if you just want something you can "pick up and play" this is definitely not the device, in-fact there will probably never be a windows device like that. Unless windows specifically creates an OS that is tailored to games. You'll need to update drivers, get annoying updates, etc. But after all that is done, this thing shreads games. I loaded up BeamNG (a car game) and on the grid map at medium settings 1080p I'm getting 60-70fps, super smooth and very low input lag. When I bumped it to 720p medium (closer to steam deck) I was getting 80+ the entire time, and even saw 120FPS at one point, that's crazy.

Incredible device
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First things first: It's great! Positives: It's quiet It's comfortable It's very versatile Different game launchers are easy to use on this device (+ for the Windows) Negatives: Battery life that's to be expected Armoury Crate is sometimes buggy(already been fixed) It's Windows on a handheld (- for the Windows I've had ROG Ally for two weeks now, and it has surprised me with its capabilities! I have a great gaming PC, PS5 and Nintendo Switch + some older consoles... but I wanted a handheld device that could also double as a PC-to-go Biggest surprise was how quiet ROG Ally is in different situations, and how comfortable it is even on high loads and temperatures. Even when the temps go over 90 degrees celsius at some points, the device doesn't get hot at all. It's only hot near the exhaust vents on the top. But I found out if you disable cpu boost the device can run very cool even on big AAA games. Overall I'm more than pleased with the ROG Ally. It is a good handheld, but it also works when you plug it in to a docking station. If you're looking for a pc device look no further this is it.

Happy with ASUS handheld!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am happy with my purchase and would recommend. I bought to play InZoi and the gameplay is nice. I can use my USB to stream to my TV for larger screen play. I also play XBox Gamepass and Steam games. The fan does stay on gor a while however once cooled it will turn off and stay off. The batterly life unplugged is short, but plugged up is recommended. I do wish the battery life was longer unplugged, you may get 1 hour of gameplay unplugged. Overall, im happy with my purchase.

Hands down the best handheld Windows gaming device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve used the Steam Deck and Switch — nothing comes close to the power packed into the ROG Ally. This thing runs AAA titles like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk like a dream. The 120Hz screen is super smooth, the Z1 Extreme chip keeps everything fast, and I love that I can dock it and use it like a full-blown PC. If you’re serious about portable gaming, this is the move. IT GOES EVERYWHERE

Pretty solid handheld gaming PC.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty solid handheld gaming PC. Lots of folks thought this was a “console” on launch and not a PC so I believe there was quite a bit of confusion initially but now that the smoke has cleared, I’d say the device is pretty good. A few issues I’ve had since Launch (I’m a day 1 owner of the ROG Ally) is the SD card slot died (not a huge deal as I do not use it…mainly an annoyance) and some software bugs. The battery life isn’t that great but at the same time…this is a gaming PC running multiple things at once…not a Nintendo Switch so poor battery life is to be expected while gaming on the go. Overall, it’s a great piece of tech and if you’re in the market for a pretty solid handheld PC, definitely give the Ally a try.

Real big fan - amazing device
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device is really top notch. I am able to play a lot of surprisingly hungry titles with ease. I have many emulators installed onto the device using Launchbox and with the proper tweaks they are running amazingly well. Currently im playing COD 4 remastered and the performance is really quite surprising. Im easily averaging over 60fps w/ recommended settings. w/ dips down to 50 when some intense bombing happens. I would highly recommend this device to anyone that only has an hour or two a day to relax and get a game in. It can play all the titles you want it to play and more. Very surprised at the quality of the device. I have much more than an hour to game a day and I find myself gravitating towards the Ally. The software hasnt given me any issues. I don't expect it to give me any more issues than my desktop PC gives me. This thing is COMFORTABLE. I have had to switch the way that I use the triggers a little bit but the way they have the two humps positioned in the back its very nice to grab like you're pinching a book. I havent had any hand cramps w/ sessions up to 4 hours on it.

Yes, better than Legion GO.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I came from the Lenovo Legion Go to the Ally. I returned my Go and purchased the Ally after not being fully happy with the size and weight. the ROG ALLY is like going back home... I feel more comfortable using it. Falls right on the Gaming niche of Asus stuff. I bought a few weeks a go and I am happy most of the bugs have been sorted out, the Go needs work. but this is what disappoints the most, they launch products and the updates are later, so, lesson learned with New Games and PC Handhelds, wait at least 6 months to buy, you would not enjoy it anyways until all the "updates" or fixes are out and seems that 6 months is a good time period for today's rushed releases. The picture I attached is with the bumper case also sold by Best Buy

Excellent handheld gaming experience!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG Ally is a great PC gaming handheld, I was worried about the sd card issue many have experienced, but the newer models are supposed to have fixed this issue and I haven’t had any problems using my 512GB micro SD card. I bought mines open box in excellent condition and this is my first time buying open box and have to say I am very impressed. The Ally was in like new condition and has worked flawlessly. I play on it far more than I ever did with my Steam Deck, I can play all my games with no modifications. I been enjoying it so much I play on it more than my gaming laptop even, and been buying more PC games than I ever have. I am a console gamer and haven’t had any troubles using the Ally even as someone who switched to Mac a couple years ago and is used to the convenience of console software. This has been my favorite handheld experience outside of the Switch since the PS Vita. Now just building up my PC library!

Amazing & well made handheld gaming powerhouse!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In love with this thing. You have windows 11 full freedom with this device. The joy comes from the customization options you get. I've been tinkering with it since I bought it and I'm in awe with the power it has. Diablo 4, Medium to High Graphics, I'm avg 80-120FPS with variable refresh rate; the best part its using only 17WATT and fans are silent. This all while on battery for more than and hour and half playing and still had 60% left! Some users may find that they need to tweak settings to optimize performance further, but ASUS's armory crate software provides an intuitive interface to do so. It allows you to customize performance profiles, adjust screen refresh rate, brightness, and fan settings effortlessly. The software also offers comprehensive system monitoring and optimization features which all work very well. I admit at first I was not convinced about armory crate but 2 days into it and you can tell they did such a good job, and this is only the beginning. I highly recommend you give it a look, test it out at one of the display location Best Buy has set up. No buyers remorse here!

Best portable console to date
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a Steam Deck months ago before the ROG Ally even made headlines. It was so underwhelming I returned it the next day. The controls felt awkward, it could only get 20-30 FPS on low settings on most games made on the last decade. I felt robbed. It also felt heavy to me. Enter the Ally and everything I hated about Steam Deck was rectified. I even actually like the Windows OS (though many complained in reviews). I can use this thing like a laptop just by plugging in a keyboard and a mouse. It was able to play Witcher 3 at 30 FPS on ULTRA settings, not low settings. Crazy. I'm playing GTA V on High getting a smooth 55-60 FPS. Mind you this is plugged in on 30 watts but I can drop to 15 watts and only suffers 20 FPS. 35-40 FPS on High settings for GTA V??? It looks beautiful and it's a portable yet looks like a laptop level of graphics. Games run smooth. Not just barely playing like Steam Deck but smooth. I'm so glad I pre-ordered because I assume once word gets out then these things will sell out fast. This is the best and most powerful portable gaming console I've played (not counting laptops).

Great Handheld, Great Desktop PC- So universal!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great device! I have enjoyed it so far! Please know- the setting up of this device takes patience and some time. It is not like setting up a console where you sign in- do an update and download your games. You have a lot more to do on this device. But once you get through it- it’s great. If you want a better setup experience- get a dock- and no you don’t have to get ASUS dock. There are plenty of options that offer more for less. Handheld feels good to me. It’s heavier than the Switch, but not uncomfortable. Overall- I’m pleased. As a desktop- it works great! It’s so universal and I look forward to traveling with this device as games run real well. Battery life is ok considering the power this thing has. But I intend to be near power a majority of time I’ll be playing. Nice to see ASUS implemented a battery health option where you can have the Ally keep the battery at 80% and wait till you tell it to top off to 100%. Very cool device and I’m pleased with my purchase! Can play my games in bed and I love that!

The perfect on the go gaming system
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like this item because it runs smoothly and there is hardly any lag. It doesn't over heat at all and has a good amount of storage for my games. If i wanted to improve about the ROG Ally it would be the battery life, it's decent but could be better. I would overall buy again.

Ultimate couch potato
|Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.[Employee of bestbuy] If you want to become an ultimate couch potato this is the product for you, all the games I’ve tried I’had no problems with so far. I mostly play indie games and racing games on this. I have a pc for games like Squad and cyberpunk but this can also run cyberpunk 60 FPS. I’ve found 18w setting to be the sweet spot when you are not plugged in. So far no problems from me. Make sure to check for updates when you start it up every time and don't always update right away. I also added pic of the forza, i have the frames capped at 60 but i get solid 60 throughout my gameplay and it never drops

Huge upgrade to my portable gaming!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This pc gaming handheld is seriously top of my list as favorite devices to play on the go!! I cannot believe it can play so many of my favorite games and even stream my xbox while I'm away from the house! Biggest flaw is the battery capacity is very low and you need to have a portable charger or be next to an outlet. Other than that, love it!! Side note: I have the killswitch travel kit from dbrand to add to the look and protection of the device. Highly suggest!

Much better!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the steam deck on launch and had a great time with it. But the performance was lacking, and some games needed some effort just to get it running. Also, the screen brightness wasn't too great. Btw i bought the 512gb which was like $650. Anyways, this thing is better in all aspects. Yea the battery could be better but i mean its almost the same as the deck anyways. The screen is great, armory crate is cool, speakers are way louder, joysticks are in a better position, and it feels better to hold. If you can get it for $450 like I did, its a great buy!

Great value for gaming on the go!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had both the steam deck and the ally but tbh the quality of life on the ally is not bad at all you do have to mess with settings a little bit and set up is a bit lengthy but the power and beautiful screen plus the ability to play games the steam deck cant made it a no brainer for me. Would highly recommend!

ROG Ally is Great
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great product I love it and how good it is at handling certain games, although storage leaves a lot to be wished. The internal storage fills up rather quickly depending on the systems you use for playing or streaming therefore I had to buy external memory card, but it is doing excellent so far and the amount of things you can do with the ROG Ally is very vast as it works and behaves exactly as a computer so it will be very easy to get the hang of it for new users, but there are few things it can’t handle well, understandingly because the processor is not then best of the best but it is quite decent in my opinion and I’m loving it so far for gaming on the go and daily use.

Sold my steam deck
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great system better graphics Better game availability without having to be tech savvy on how to install windows best of all? It’s in store. Pros: 512 gb of space expandable through SD card Runs windows Accessible plenty in stock not being scalped Dock is cheaper and in stock at stores doesn’t rob you of a charger on the go so you technically get 2 chargers by having the dock. Multiple performance modes and game adaptability multiple types of mode for different types of games. Play while on the go! Cons: if you put it in docked mode you have to press the armour crate button to turn off embedded controller to use your Bluetooth controller. Has a tendency on high performance games to cause a weird line blur in the middle of your screen. It does not come with a carrying case like the steam deck (sold separately) MSRP $39.99 Battery life in hand held mode on high performance can cost you play time quickly (playing cloud play does not effect this average play time 2-3 of game play. It is white, so Cheeto fingers beware.
