Reignite my love of pc gaming but in a console form

It works just like a computer just missing the keyboard and a mouse.

Good gaming console, good specifications, but quite expensive.

Had a small scratch on the first one i bought. Store was great and easy to swap ! Told me come back if i had another issue.

Performance was better then expected, was really hard to get used to the controller feel with windows.

Downloaded Steam and the Texas Chainsaw game. Played it and the graphics and inputs seem great. Until I downloaded Fortnite via Epic Store, i noticed the left upper shoulder button wasn’t clicking like the right upper shoulder button. Returned it. Kinda dissapointed because I put a screen protector and all the updates the system required via Windows, Armory Crate, My Asus App and Windows Store. Ally X should make it’s own gamestore intergrated with armory crate. I don’t know why but the Nintendo Switch OLED seems brighter as well. I guess it’s the OLED screen. I got an exchanged unit ordered. Hopefully everything works as advertised. If not, I’ll stick with my Nintendo Switch until Switch 2. Ally 2 needs a 8 inch 16 by 10 OLED screen and less Windows and more Armory Crate.

It's awesome, it's the second one I'm getting though, the first one had memory card issues that made it way to hot and the micro SD card slot didn't work. Hopefully this new one will.

After researching for approximately two months on the best handheld system for PC gaming, I found the ROG Ally X. Watched countless reviews on YouTube about the device and seemed that it was the best fit for purchase. I got the device and have been playing on it sparingly for the past couple weeks as I have a full build gaming PC every time I have attempted to play or even launch a standard system setting the ROG Ally X has had nothing but issues. Games that said they would work refused to even launch. I attempted to use the built-in systems such as AMD and armory crate to alleviate this issue and it never worked. However, it is extremely comfortable to hold in the four hours of gaming. I did get into the system was very fun. Overall, just not practical I do think that the idea is there, but the technology isn’t.

It makes a high-pitched noise in the fans, I don't know if that's normal in a brand new device

I was in the market for a Nintendo Switch once mine was on its last legs. Once I found out that Nintendo still has yet to release a console, I searched for other options because I did not want to just rebuy the same console I did before. I searched the market and bought the ROG Ally. Once I found out that the Ally X released, I sold my original Ally and bought this one. My first impressions were that I loved the black color and the addition of the second USBC port versus the proprietary external GPU port on the original Ally. I could plug in some USBC headphones and charge the device at the same time without the use of an external dock which was awesome. The buttons and triggers feel a lot nicer and it's overall more comfortable for me to hold because I have larger hands. As I started playing games on it, that's when the upgrades really started to shine. The upgrade to 24GB of RAM allows for much more overhead and arguably reaches the Z1 Extreme processor's full potential which on a real note, AMD is doing some black magic sorcery with this chip; that combined with the implementation in the Ally itself allows for a super smooth gaming experience. The performance is amazing in all of the games I play on it. Forza Horizon 5, Fortnite, Bo3, Bo6, Bo Cold War, (gotta love CoD zombies on this), RDR2, The Witcher 3, GTA5, and even high end emulation such as PS2, PS3, Wii, GameCube, and even Switch run great. The frames I target are between 40-60 for story games and 60+ for FPS titles. Don't expect anything too crazy as this is still a handheld, but don't underestimate it either. The screen is great and I'm surprised it wasn't an OLED since the colors look vibrant and everything feels super responsive. It is 1080p and 120hz, but very few games would be able to take full advantage of it so the variable refresh rate takes in and allows for a super smooth gaming experience regardless. As I started playing games on the Ally X, there is one notable quality-of-life improvement over the last model. The battery. With 80Wh of headroom, it makes me actually want to use this device as a handheld without being tethered to the wall, and at that point I'd just use my desktop PC. That feature alone makes me want to use it a lot more without having battery anxiety. For $800 (you might be able to catch it on sale for $700), although expensive, it's still a really good buy. I would definitely recommend if you have the money and is unbeatable compared to other competitors. The Steam Deck is also a great option due to its tight integration with Steam, but also lacks in certain features such as being able to run other game launchers or comply with (spyware) anti-cheat.

The RB in one game needs to be pressed twice in order for it to register when remapping the controls. Other than that, it seems fine. Something I will be keeping an eye on.

I was very excited when purchasing the Rog Ally X. I had been playing on my steam deck for sometime but was getting sick of trying work arounds to play non steam games. I figured the Ally x would eliminate that. While the unit is able to download and play games like COD and others, it’s been a struggle with other games on steam. All in all it’s not any better than the steam deck. I wouldn’t purchase again.
