Not much has changed since the initial ROG Ally Release, Asus continues to use: - The familiar shipping box, in black instead of white; - Carboard type stand found in the lid, only there’s 2 pieces this time instead of one to which you can use both as a way display your device or have one stored in two different areas; - The main unit look similar to the original, with slight changes in rounding corners, grips size increase, added logo in the grip as found in similarity to some other manufacturers grips; - Under grip buttons are now smaller and placed in a more finger friendly resting zone; - Thumbsticks feel as though there’s more of a grip and dip, and have moved closer to the screen while retaining the RGB light rings; - With the changes in the battery size, the unit has picked up some added weight, not noticeable to new users… upgraders will notice; - No longer carries the reflective stickers on the edges and the - The default wallpaper looks really cool opposed to the original look; - RAM amounts have changed to bump it up to 24GBs over the previous 16GBs; - There is now 2 USB-C ports over the previous native Asus port on the previous unit; - The included SSD is now 1TB over the previous 512GB and upgradable via NVME or adding an SD card to the port that has moved further away from the hot zones. Sits more comfortably with the rounded corners and increased grip areas and decreased boxiness to the unit. Setup is still just as fast and easy as it was before. Power on, connect to the internet, apply any missing WinOS 11 updates, the Asus updates also. The added RAM does make a difference in gameplay while limiting the frame drop and stutter for heavy RAM use games. The Ally X is still running the command center and armory crate for a one-stop game shop to access all of your games installed, cloud gaming (xBox Live, PS), STEAM, and COG games. The Asus Command Center still allows you to fully customize your ROG to fit you and from power, brightness, operating modes, game profiles, and controller modes. Overall cooling has improved and decreased sizes in the fans. With the increased battery size, you can get at max performance around 3-hours of gaming. Even longer with lower performance settings, varying by the games you’re playing. The 100w fast charging is a new option, in the box, there is a 65w charger. The higher watt charger will allow you to charge to full in around about an hour. While this is a powerhouse gaming focused PC, it can also be user as a daily work machine during the work day via external device and accessories keeping you game ready at the end of a long workday.

This device is such a massive improvement from the first. I returned the original Rog Ally Z1 Extreme when it first came out because of faulty buttons and terrible battery life. This device is amazing. Personally I prefer the black color over the white. The extra ram is nice but the nicest part of this device has to be the better UI (windows still sucks but that’s not Asus’s fault) and the battery life. Well done Asus.

The Ally X was already an amazing handheld, but Bazzite basically makes it into a Steam Deck Pro. "Quick Resume" alone is a killer feature that all gaming handhelds desperately need ASAP!

Great bang for buck. Can be used docked as a regular computer then taken off dock to game comfortably on the couch.

It’s pretty good just wish you could change the memory assigned to gpu without restarting. Some games relies on cpu power and others rely on gpu. Trying to find a balance for each game is tricky. Overclocking doesn’t perform any better on AAA games. It seems to make it worse. Vsync also creates stutters and lags so don’t turn it on. For Radeon settings I’ve noticed performance issues turning any of the settings on. Anti-lag does help in some titles but others don’t like it. Overall its a very powerful computer You just need to tweak every game you put onto it.

Best system for gamers on the go. I take this when I’m working out of state and it’s the best thing I could of purchased

I adore this thing. I had the Z1 extreme before and my only complaint was the battery life. The battery life now is wonderful. I cant put it down!

Mine is overheating and the LCD came damaged with lines. Might have got a bad unit but its not a good look

I bought this while recovering from surgery, expecting to spend a few weeks in bed, and was excited about it. Unfortunately, when it arrived, I was incredibly disappointed. The overall quality feels extremely cheap like it would fall apart if dropped even once. On top of that, it doesn't come with a case or anything convenient for protection. For context, I have a gaming PC with a 4080 Ti Super, so while I wasn’t expecting this to be anywhere near that level, I at least hoped for a decent experience. Honestly, I almost wished I had bought a Switch instead. The laptop-style UI made me realize I could have gotten a small gaming PC with a better graphics card and higher frame rates for the same price or even less. In the end, I returned it and got the Steam Deck OLED instead, and the difference is night and day. Do yourself a favor—save your money. If you’re curious, try it out, but don’t hesitate to return it and explore other options.

Great machine to play on it is a little big but manageable.

Tried to like it, but games run better on the original ally.the build quality and triggers are better but still not very stiff.the screen is just as unimpressive as it was before. For $850, you would think it would get a bigger screen. I do not recommend it. Save yourself the headache.

Not worth upgrading. You get maybe 1-2 fps more in games. Joysticks feel the exact same, not even hall effect, and the software can be updated on OG ally. I would pick up a OG ally for $400 and spend $100 doing the 90wh battery mod which makes it better, and this an obsolete, more expensive device.

First of all windows on this is terrible. Install Bazzite only because steam OS hasn't been developed for anything else other than the steam deck as of 4/12/2025. 5 months into this.. and I play roughly 80 hours a week.. the thumb grips on this started twisting off.. literally.. would not stick in one spot.
