Customers often highlight the ROG Ally X's overall performance, improved battery life, and ideal balance of portability and power as key strengths. The device also receives positive feedback for its screen quality, game compatibility, storage capacity, ample RAM, efficient heat dissipation, and acceptable noise levels. While the device is considered a bit heavy, the primary concern appears to be the user experience with the operating system.

The Handheld Gaming Marvel That Won Over my Family
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’d been following handheld gaming devices for a while, and it felt like everyone was talking about whether this new Windows-based handheld could really challenge traditional consoles. Being the tech enthusiast that I am, I just had to give it a try. First Impressions and Design Right out of the box, the ROG Ally made a great first impression. I was struck by its sturdy build—no cheap plastic feeling or creaky joints. The controls felt surprisingly comfortable for a handheld device, with responsive buttons, analog sticks that felt just right, and nicely placed triggers that didn’t cramp my fingers after longer sessions. It wasn’t too heavy either, which mattered a lot to me, because I tend to play on handhelds for hours at a time. Performance and Display What really sold me on it, though, was the performance. I’ve tested it on a range of games—from lighter indie titles to more demanding AAA releases—and it handled them with commendable smoothness. The ROG Ally’s display is another high point. At 1080p resolution and a higher-than-usual refresh rate for a handheld, it looked vivid and crisp. I’m one of those people who notices frame dips and screen tearing right away, so seeing stable performance on such a tiny device was a huge plus. The Windows Factor Of course, one of the main selling points is that it runs on Windows. That means you can install a broader range of games and software from different stores (Steam, Epic, Xbox Game Pass, etc.). Initially, setting it up felt a bit like wrangling a brand-new PC—downloading drivers, adjusting performance settings—but once I got it all set up, the flexibility was incredible. I loved being able to switch between a Steam backlog title and something from my Game Pass library seamlessly. Battery Life and Other Considerations Like many portable devices, the ROG Ally isn’t perfect. If there’s one area that left me wanting more, it’s battery life. Playing graphically intensive games on higher settings can drain the battery pretty fast, so I usually keep the charger or a power bank handy. Also, Windows can be a bit finicky on a smaller screen; navigation with a touchscreen or the built-in controls sometimes feels cumbersome. However, those small frustrations haven’t overshadowed the overall experience for me. Why I Liked It (and Why My Son Loves It More) I love the freedom it gives me to play PC games virtually anywhere. Instead of being tied down to my desk, I can lounge in the living room or take it along on trips. That’s been a game-changer for me—no pun intended. But the real surprise has been my son’s reaction. He has a couple of consoles (a Switch and a PlayStation), but as soon as he tried the ROG Ally, he was hooked. He says he likes how it feels “grown-up” because it’s essentially a mini-PC. He’s also dazzled by the game variety. He can jump from a big AAA title on Steam to some quick indie platformer on another store, all within a single handheld device. Most of all, he just enjoys having his favorite games right in his hands without having to switch consoles. It’s become our go-to for family trips. I used to see him rushing to pack his Switch or ask to bring the PlayStation, but now he just tosses the ROG Ally in his backpack. Plus, there’s a bit of parent-kid bonding that happens when we discover a new game store sale together or try out a multiplayer indie game. Final Thoughts Overall, the Asus ROG Ally has offered me a unique combination of portability and high performance. I’ve dealt with the minor annoyances like shorter battery life and the occasional Windows quirk, but it’s more than made up for that with its sheer flexibility and power. The real testament to its success in my household is that my son, who was previously glued to his traditional consoles, now can’t seem to put the Ally down. And honestly, I can’t blame him. For PC gamers looking for a handheld that feels closer to a full-blown gaming rig in the palm of your hand, the ROG Ally is a solid choice—and it’s a new favorite for both of us.

Nice Handheld!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Rog Ally X is an improvement. The battery life is way longer. The device is much cooler and quieter. Highly recommend this device if you do not have a powerful gaming PC, or if you do, then if you travel a lot for work, this is the device to have on the side. Works great!

Great Gaming Handheld and Windows 11 portable PC
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really enjoying this system. Gaming on it is a blast in handheld mode. It works very well and I can play all of my games without issue. I purchased the charger/dock and also connect it to my 43" TV. There I will play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024. I have the USB port on the dock connected to a 4 port powered USB hub. Plugged into it are my Joystick, and 2 Elgato Stream Decks. I have been very pleased with how well it handles the demands of Flight Simulator. Battery life on it is better than it was on my original ROG Ally and the increased memory and storage space have allowed me to preload more games as well as having made gaming smoother with the additional RAM.

Great System
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very pleasently surprised with how well most games run and its' battery life. The screen is sharp, it feels great to hold, and is incredibly responsive. It will run just about anything but you may have to adjust the graphics settings down a bit in some cases if you run into poor performance. That being said, you won't notice it too much unless you buy a dock which I would suggest as the included stands are cardboard and foam.

Pricey but worth it
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had it for 1 month and it is my first handheld but I am extremely impressed how cool it is. I am mainly using it to play WoW on the go and I am having a blast. Windows runs really well on it and I like all the accessibility it offers like letting me unlock applications with fingerprint. FPS and graphic wise it is quite good, I know World of Warcraft isn't exactly the most graphic intensive game, but is is processor intensive and this device does not break a sweat. It stays cool as well no matter how long I play. I didn't own it's predecessor but the battery life seems quite good, lasting long time without being plugged it (it was over 50% after 4 hours of use)

Excellent buy for the price!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS ROG Ally X is an excellent purchase for any gamer that wants to game on the go. It runs everything from WoW to FFXIV to all the mihoyo games smoothly. I did have to lessen the graphic settings on FFXIV in major cities, but other than that it runs smooth even on high settings. I added extra storage and it was super easy and I have plenty of space without needed to pay extra for the larger storage version. The only thing I recommend is getting a little Bluetooth keyboard/trackpad combo to take with you because it will make it easier to log into online games and type in chat boxes. Other than that it’s a really awesome handheld and I definitely recommend it!

I highly recommend Rog Ally X to those in need of a reliable and high-performing device. It has significantly boosted my productivity and made my daily tasks more enjoyable. Portable Gaming PC
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked up my ROG Ally from Best Buy, and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. This is a game-changer for anyone who wants to take their PC game library on the go. The Good: Performance and Display The performance on this device, especially with the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, is fantastic. I'm able to play demanding AAA titles on medium or low settings and still get smooth, very playable frame rates. For indie and less-intensive games, it absolutely flies. The 1080p 120Hz screen is the crown jewel—it's incredibly bright, vibrant, and the 120Hz refresh rate makes motion look super fluid. It truly makes a difference compared to other handhelds. The device itself is comfortable and portable. It feels solid and well-built, and the control layout is intuitive. Asus's Armoury Crate SE software has been a great interface for managing my games and quickly adjusting performance profiles. Plus, running on Windows 11 means I have access to every PC game launcher (Steam, Epic, Xbox Game Pass, GOG, etc.).

ROG Ally X performs beautifully
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the ROG Ally X because I wanted a handheld gaming device capable of running PC games, whether they are on Steam, Xbox, GOG, or PC games from any other sources. I also wanted it to support multiple users so that my fiancee and I can both use it. Since the ROG Ally X runs on Windows 11, it fulfills both of those needs quite well. The device is easy to set up, with Windows walking you through the process of configuring the WiFi network, user account, and other necessary settings. It comes with the device and its charging adapter, which connects via one of the two USB-C ports. The handheld can be controlled with the knobs and buttons built in to the device, but I connected an external mouse (trackball style) and keyboard via Bluetooth immediately after setting the device up for ease of use - especially where I needed to type. Connecting both was quick and easy and they have worked flawlessly on the ROG Ally X. If you want to play any PC games that are designed to be played with keyboard & mouse, you really need to connect these peripherals externally. Games that are designed to be played with game controllers work well with the built-in buttons and knobs. I've test a few games on the device and they've run well. The game I've played most so far is a new release, Indiana Jones & The Great Circle, and it plays beautifully on the ROG Ally X. For mobile play, the device works well enough. For long play sessions, I prefer a larger screen, so I bought a dock for the device and connect the handheld to my Samsung TV via HDMI cable connected to the dock the ROG Ally X is connected to, for a seamless and comfortable experience. I have tried to connect the handheld to my TV via the Windows wireless display feature, but it really isn't suited for gaming. While you can connect the display this way, you'll have a better gaming experience if you connect to a TV or external monitor with a cable. I've also connected an Xbox Elite 2 game controller to my ROG Ally X via Bluetooth, which I use when I dock the handheld to play on the big screen TV. This game controller has worked perfectly with this handheld. I've installed games via Steam, GOG, & Epic Games and have had no issues with installations or game play. The ROG Ally X will be a fun addition to my gaming set up. I look forward to using it on my cozy patio when the weather is decent and when I'm the passenger on long road trips. I've seen others who own the ROG Ally X report that they've had success using it with PC VR. I have both the Quest 3 and the PSVR 2 headsets and will try VR out on my handheld soon. I can use both with my gaming laptop, but the ROG Ally X will be easier to travel with if I want to take a VR headset on a trip or to a friend's house to play. Note that the PSVR 2 headset requires purchase of a special adapter from Sony to be able to connect to PC to play VR games.

Probably the best handheld PC out there right now!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Probably the best handheld PC out there right now! Performance is one of the best and it has to have quite possibly the best battery life of handheld consoles in this form factor. Plays almost anything you throw at it. Such a big improvement over the original Ally from the ergonomics to the buttons and thumb sticks. The increased 1TB of storage is pretty good, but might as well grab a larger m.2 2280 SSD from Best Buy while you’re at it and upgrade it with a 2-4TB drive. Would definitely recommend getting an ROG Ally X.

Totally worth it
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really hemmed and hawed on this one for a few weeks. I’m glad I bought it though. The extra RAM compared to the Legion and regular Ally really makes a difference with certain games. The battery life is good too. I usually get an hour and a half on turbo mode play Horizon: Forbidden West. most of the other games i play are older and less resouce intensive. Being able to play games on the go is great for me. I travel a lot so never really being home was really holding me back.

The ultimate gaming console is finally here
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have one word to sum it up - Excellent. It has played any game i have tried playing on it without issue. The battery life is so good, i literally havent even got to 25 percent battery while in daily use, usually when i go to plug it in after playing it is still at 50 to 60 percent i think the lowest ive seen it get to was 33 percent and im talking this was HOURS of use. Granted i wasnt using 25w power mode for battery. But still. I didnt have to run it at 25 or 30w. I believe most people that complain about seeing 120hz 60fps on a 7 inch screen mmiiigggtttt have some serious issues upstairs. AAA titles play fine on the factory 17w power mode if your running 60hz, 900p or 720p screen. And youll get around 6 hours of gameplay say playing spiderman on that. If you run Emudeck and are playing any emulator besides a switch emulator your going to see upwards of 10 to 12 hours of battery. Possibly more. If im playing metroid remastered on switch emulator it might drain from 100 percent to 90 percent in an hour. Same goes for like GTA4 on steam might drain 10 percent in an hour. Ive had this since like 2 days after launch date i have an 7-2024 manufacture date on the console. And it has not stopped impressing me everyday, i have had nothing but awesome times with it and the brag rights about it rock. Almost to the point where i considered selling my PS5, the only reason i am keeping the ps5 is because i want to play GTA6 on launch day and not wait a year or longer for it to be released on steam. Also for the god of war games. This rog X has worked flawlessly. Windows 11 is great on it, all the buttons work great. Hand placement feels right. Having windows 11 on this thing means you can literally do anything you want as far as schooling, web browsing, gaming, emulators, roms. hook up bluetooth keyboard mouse combo and go for the TV, or use your xbox controller and on screen keyboard. I currently have it hooked up to my 85inch TCL q6 tv thru hdmi to usb c. And again my hdmi cord is not 120hz so im only getting 60hz, i will upgrade to the 120hz Jsaux dock soon if i even feel the need. Still cant really tell the diff between 60 and 120hz. But my settings are 17w power plugged in to the tv 900p projected from the ally x. and plugged into the charger and i have xbox series x controller to use with it. On my 85 inch tv i still dont see the need to switch from 900p to 1080p output. But hey if yall want to go all out and max out every setting on the handheld and complain about battery life when u probably cant even tell a difference gooo for it! The console has not run hot in my hand during handheld play at all not even when its on 25w. I have had 0 SD card issues. 1 issue with finger print reader is it messes up on me about every 15 times or so being used from sleep mode without turning off the console ill have to put in my pin then restart then the fingerprint will work for screen wake up for about another ten times. Windows 11 has updated twice since out of the box and i use this thing everyday, for atleast 4 hours. Longer on the weekend. I bought a 512gb sd card for storage of smaller non AAA titles and it works great. If you are thinking of getting one of these GET IT, best buy is even offering 0 percent interest if you use their credit card for 18 month's that is 44 dollars a month to get the coolest console made to date. Throw that steam deck in the trash. Well better try to sell it first. 10 stars all day and i am not even a pc gamer, this is my first pc gaming/steam application experience but like i said my ps5 would be gone if it wasnt for GTA 6 and new god of war games coming out.

Great handheld device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have first gen Z1 extreme with 16gb and upvraded to this!!! Its a game changer!! Love the aditional ram!!! And the SSD slot is bigger to fit a fullsoze SSD! IM pushing this rog ally X to the extreme with a 4TB SSD!!!!!! Im sure the xbox/ROG ally X is going to be great but honestly pc gaming on hand held i do use it more then my desktop witch i still use oftenly but to be honest. I usually game at 1080p with my limiter set to 60 fps. I play alot of single player games Skyrim modded with visual enhencers same with fallout 4 and other games including racing games as well i have no complaints and its a great device i have had it since july 23rd 2024 and ive hand other handhelds but i always go back to my ally X. I can surely say that i have had nothing but a great experience with it.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great battery life. A considerable upgrade in performance compared to SD OLED. Love the 1080p and VRR screen. Armory crate really makes you feel like it’s a console. Surprisingly quick shut off and wake up times. Ergonomics can be improved a bit more, all updates (including windows) should be doable inside armory crate, although they at least made the graphic driver update possible that way! More options and choices inside armory crate, like custom game icon images by linking steamdb, more start up movies etc.
