Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the ROG Ally X's overall performance, improved battery life, and ideal balance of portability and power as key strengths. The device also receives positive feedback for its screen quality, game compatibility, storage capacity, ample RAM, efficient heat dissipation, and acceptable noise levels. While the device is considered a bit heavy, the primary concern appears to be the user experience with the operating system.

I personally think it's better than a steam deck, mainly because you don't have to worry about if the game has anti cheat or not, you can just play anything. Functions like a small computer, plays smoothly, if you put turbo mode on then the graphics are actually pretty good.

The ROG Ally X has been a great upgrade for my handheld gaming setup. The improved battery life makes a huge difference, letting me game for longer without constantly looking for a charger. The ergonomics feel better, making it more comfortable to hold for extended sessions. Performance is solid—it runs AAA games smoothly, and I haven’t noticed any major slowdowns. The new joysticks and buttons feel more durable and responsive, which is a nice improvement.

I have had both Steam Decks and the first Z1E Ally. Now with SteamOS on this I am the most happy. Great feel, great performance, more ports, love it. The extra ports and upgrades to the buttons and ergonomics over the first gen are great, then the 80wh battery is awesome. 100% happy.

This thing is perfect for portability, and has even replaced my laptop in "everyday carry" backpack. i purchased this primarily for gaming but the docked experience has made it easy to replace my laptop (with the appropriate peripherals). You cannot expect 4090 quality out of it, but the games i play run smooth and some even at 120FPS. If you want a handheld gaming experience with the added benefit of a full windows machine. Can't go wrong with the ROG ally X.

The battery life is outstanding, and the performance is the best in class compared to other Z1E/7840U/8840U devices. The comfort is hands down best in class. The only downside is the software that comes with the device. It’s mediocre. Fortunately, there’s an open-source project called HandheldCompanion that will soon add support. Their app is infinitely superior to Armory Crate. It’s not a cringe “gamer” app that stinks. Overall, this is the best handheld on the market. If you were considering a Steam Deck, don’t bother. You can just install a Linux distribution called Bazzite on it, and you’re there.

AAA games on the go. Enough said. It’s basically a mini PC. Runs quiet, cools well and plays for a good duration of time thanks to the 80wh battery. Honestly worth every penny!

Awesome handheld gaming pc, makes playing on the go effortless. Only down side is the screen being small but those are the small sacrifice for the portability. The laptop gaming set up can be bulky and at times a hassle to play a quick game or 2 so it’ll take the improved battery life and portables for the luxury of a larger screen.

Absolutely love it. Havent had any problems with it, bought myself a silicone case protector and it works fine with it., been able to play just about every game i like. Fortnite, 7 days, COD, marvel rivals with no problems. And it seems to adjust the settings on games itself which is great cause im dumb for that xD

It's amazing. It's a handheld PC and that can be janky at times, but as a lifelong nerd I find it awesome to hold a complete PC in my hands. The AMD Z1 Extreme processor it contains has also amazed me. I've played games from every platform and they've ran as well as can be expected, the battery has been more than enough, the 1TB of storage has not been an issue thus far (I have a lot of games). This is a pricey piece of technology but if you're like me it will not disappoint you. It's makes me excited for the future of handheld gaming and devices.

If you want a console or games on the go, then this is for you. It has a good ammount of space, and runs heavy games like Cyberpunk and CoD 6 perfectly. Sure its not as good as a dedicated gaming computer, but its for gaming on the go.

[Employee of bestbuy] I’ve been using the ROG Ally X, and it has been an excellent handheld gaming experience overall. Performance is impressive for its size, handling modern games smoothly with solid frame rates and quick load times. The device feels fast and responsive, whether I’m gaming, navigating Windows, or multitasking on the go. The display is sharp, vibrant, and makes games look great, especially on a handheld this compact. Battery life is a noticeable improvement, giving me longer play sessions without constantly needing to recharge. The build quality feels sturdy and premium, and the ergonomics make it comfortable to hold for extended periods. Cooling is also well-managed, keeping the device from getting too hot or noisy during longer sessions. Overall, the ROG Ally X is a powerful and portable gaming device that I’d highly recommend to anyone looking for a high-performance handheld.

    A True Game Changer!

The ROG Ally X is a big step up from the original. The 80Wh battery is a game changer, it lasts way longer so you don’t have to charge as often. It also has a 2280 SSD slot, which means you can upgrade to a bigger SSD easily. If you're thinking about getting a handheld, get this one instead of the 16gb rog ally. Better battery, better storage options, just better all around!

Awesome little handheld! Great battery life compared to other systems and surprisingly great performance. First and foremost, like any pc/laptop, make sure you do all windows and driver updates before you go crazy downloading all your games. Some game settings might need a little tweaking to hit that performance “sweet spot. Think of it like a pc and not a Nintendo switch, and you will love everything about it…even with all the “quirks” of Windows

This is an improvement on the original Z1E ROG Ally in many ways. Is it heavier? Slightly, but ergonomically, it's easier to hold. Battery life is doubled. The black shell does a better job of hiding blemishes. The larger footprint on the SSD makes it easier, and cheaper, to find upgrades. The buttons are smooth and don't stick as much as the earlier entry.

I had the Ally for almost a year and loved it, but having to play plugged in majority of the time because of the battery defeated the purpose of having a handheld. The bigger battery and more efficient hardware make the Ally X a far better experience and allow you to really enjoy it on the go. I tried the Legion Go for a but, but found the speakers, battery life, and performance to be noticeably worse than the Ally X even though the screen is nice. Overall, the Ally X is worth the upgrade if you can trade in your current Ally and finance.

It’s not back but it does lack some functionality, I love a lot of my older games that would be great to have on the go with PC/Steam but sadly they do not work cause there is no gamepad compatibility. Which is odd because a lot of the games I used to play with an old Logitech gamepad so the support should be there but it’s not guess it just been phased out over the years. But other than that I do enjoy it with the games I do use and play with. The battery is pretty good, charging however you MUST use the supplied asus power adapter or it will not charge, I tried using the UsbC in my Semi Truck thinking it would work just at a slower pace and it didn’t even attempt to charge even with a power inverter it didn’t until I hooked up the original power adapter. Had to go out and get another one just lucky it worked cause the second one I bought was a third party.
