Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the ROG Ally X's overall performance, improved battery life, and ideal balance of portability and power as key strengths. The device also receives positive feedback for its screen quality, game compatibility, storage capacity, ample RAM, efficient heat dissipation, and acceptable noise levels. While the device is considered a bit heavy, the primary concern appears to be the user experience with the operating system.

I had the Legion Go before this and in my opinion I prefer this ROG Ally X for the battery life and ergonomics. It can also run any Triple A games relatively well.

This handheld is seriously impressive. The performance is way stronger than I expected for a portable system. Being able to run full PC games smoothly on something this small still blows my mind. The screen looks great, the controls feel good, and Windows gives you the flexibility to install basically anything you want. I’ve used it for Game Pass, Steam games, and even some emulation, and it handles everything really well. The portability is the best part. Being able to play full PC games anywhere is just awesome. For anyone who likes PC gaming but also wants the flexibility of handheld play, this device is amazing.

I waited about 2 years before making this review so it could be accurate. This is definitely worth the price I’ve had no problems streaming from this device and playing games. I do not have a dock but using a usb bus or Bluetooth to play games on the tv has a slight delay it’s only noticeable for fast paced games. Recording can be automatic and with the built in mic you can do everything from it. It come with a built in keyboard but with two usb c ports you can use one for charging and the other for accessories. The controller does have moments where it stops responding but hitting the tab button and cycling to desktop mode and back to controller always fixes it. I rarely have to delete games I don’t have high storage cost games besides gacha games. Games with no controller won’t be a problem either since you can map buttons to operate as keyboard inputs.

It works good. For a portable pc it runs well and runs all the games well. It only runs good fps at low settings for triple A games. Don’t expect high performance but if you don’t might lower fps at high settings than it’s good.

    Perfect Handheld

Great device! Plays tons of new games no problem. Gets 60fps no problem with decent settings. 120fps on certain games with lower settings and frame Gen enabled. Battery life is decent, I can get a few hours of game time on battery, but I typically play with it plugged in. Operating system is fine, Windows is windows, but the ease of setting up and dual booting Bazzite is perfect. Use bazzite for steam games and windows for xbox/game pass. Memory is easily upgradable to 4tb, then you can add a 1tb sd card if you want it maxed. Perfect handheld to play steam games if you don't have a gaming pc or want to game on the go.

I had a Steam Deck before and I enjoyed it. The Ally X provides more power, better battery life, and Windows. I enjoy having windows for easier use when playing non-Steam games, but the console-like experience on the Steam Deck is unmatched. Overall, it is a great handheld PC that I have been able to play most of the games I want to.

    A Powerful (Mobile) Gaming Machine

A powerful (mobile) gaming machine, working out the gate with ASUS's Armoury Crate software and Windows 11! I opted to load Steam OS over Windows 11 for performance reasons, but the Armoury Crate software allows for a plethora of gaming customization, from the refresh rate and TDP functionality and control to the resolution as well at the touch of a screen. It outperforms the Steam Deck models in almost every metric as well!

I had been holding off on getting into PC gaming because of how much I travel and already having a work laptop to lug around. This gave me the opportunity not to be held down to a desk, but still have that desktop tower power. Depending on what game and how you run it effects the battery life, but unplugged I'm getting any where from minimum an hour playing Doom Dark Ages at 1080p to two hours on games like Baldurs Gate 3 or Expedition 33. Any other games that are less demanding like Visions of Mana are upwards of four hours. I've even tried my personal laptop in favor of using the ROG Ally X to take care of editing pictures and doing other projects utilizing windows. The only negative things I could say would be your typical PC oversights like making sure your drivers are up to date.

    Powerful but very frustrating OS

The ROG Ally X is an incredibly powerful device by the standards of something you can hold in your hands. If all you are seeking in a handheld console is performance, this is the console for you. However, if you are looking for the best overall experience, I would not recommend this. Microsoft's operating system on this device is incredibly frustrating. It just simply was not made to work with a device such as this. It can be used, but it is intensely clunky. If this device has a native OS - similar to that of the Steam Deck - I would be much more willing to recommend this over the Steam Deck. Reviewers of this device have made this same criticism many times, and I now understand why. There is also the issue of price. Although this is more powerful than a Steam Deck, it is substantially more expensive than a Steam Deck. This is especially frustrating when you realize how cheap the buttons and triggers feel. At $800, I find the price hard to justify.

As someone who had the previous model, one of the biggest things I hated about the older Ally was the joysticks. They felt incredibly loose. The new joystick feels way better along with over all buttons. Changing the m.2 form factor also makes upgrades cheaper so overall I am content with the my new Ally X.
