Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the ROG Ally X's overall performance, improved battery life, and ideal balance of portability and power as key strengths. The device also receives positive feedback for its screen quality, game compatibility, storage capacity, ample RAM, efficient heat dissipation, and acceptable noise levels. While the device is considered a bit heavy, the primary concern appears to be the user experience with the operating system.

Best in class as of 2024. Surprising how much performance upscaling is able to squeeze out of the 780m APU! Being able to hibernate the device in the middle of a game and resume within seconds is a game changer for busy parents who are often interrupted. This is the primary reason I've switched to using the Ally X instead of my GTX 3070 laptop.

Basically just a portable pc pricey but worth it. I got this to be able to play my steam library on the go since i cant really escape to my pc room to play. Setup was just like setting up any new pc. Games I have look good and run fine. Feels comfortable to hold. Really only downside is the battery life. For long gaming sessions might as well make sure you are plugged in.

The original Ally was a disaster for me. Not just because of the absyminal battery life but having just a single USB port meant that often times while I was restoring large Steam backups from the USB drive the console battery would get depleated. I returned the SteamDeck for the same reason and don’t understand how people can live with this. I also don’t understand why some people prefer the steamdeck over this considering the ally x is more powerful and can play all your PC games. When I had the steamdeck I realized I couldn’t play over 80% of my games because they were not compatible. Even some of the verified games were not playable. If you don’t like Windows just install Bazzite OS and you’ll get 95% of the SteamDeck OS experience for more battery life and power. The only thing I liked more about the deck over the ally was the ergonomics. Sure, the Ally X is still not perfect. Besides Windows being bloatware nowadays, it still suffers from some firmware/software quirks like console not powering on sometimes, appearing to be stuck at boot, or failing to calibrate the controllers properly. Luckily for me all these were solved by just retrying the procedure. Some reviewers also reported issues with getting LCD with bad pixels, triggers having uneven feel, rumble motor misbehaving, or buttens being squeaky. Luckily the console I received has been flawless in these regards. I recommend that if your console works fine for you, then do NOT upgrade the firmware/BIOS as in the best case will only fix some obscure issue you did not run into, or worst case introduce a new issue which will prevent your from enjoying the console until a fix comes along.

I did end up returning it but it wasnt because it was bad i just realized i wasnt using it enough and i wished the screen would be a lot bigger. Overall it was great and did enjoy it. Quality was good and it did not feel flimsy.

Upgraded from the first Ally to this one and the difference is night and day. An actual upgrade. Cooling, SD port, fps, battery life, game performance… all upgraded. Sad that they aren’t being produced anymore because of the Xbox collab. This is truly a great handheld PC

I got to say it i like the steam deck alot, But when it comes down to raw performance the ally x is it. If you play on the deck and wish you had just a bit more power with out doubt the rog will do it for you my games are running almost twice as fast and great screen clarity. Im sure valve will eventually bring out a improve version of the deck but till then ally x all day. The steam deck is way more user friendly.

What a great way to be lazy on the couch or in bed but dont have a console. The battery life is very good and the cpu is a monster. The steam based games arent super optimised on the Ally but windows launched games run terrific. Each game takes a little bit of tinkering for the graphics settings but you can find all of those online. Just make sure you update it fully. I do recommend this handheld if money isnt a big issue for you.

this is probably one of the top machines to buy for a handheld windows gaming console. The downside to this is the compatibility of some games or I might have got a defective unit. If you are looking to get this now. Wait for ROG to release the Ryzen Z2 processors and hoping they upgrade to 32GB with better graphics. Than it can play like FF7 remake better. The best part of this is it uses a regular NVMe stick so you can upgrade the machine up to 4TB-8TB.

Own a steam deck and this one is so much better, higher fps, higher fidelity, more software compatibility for example lossless scaling, if your subscribed to Xbox gamepass or any other gaming subscriptions like ea and ubisoft like i am then this is the one to get.

Significant upgrade, in my opinion. It's played everything I've thrown at it, and getting in a round or 2 of the call of duty on my lunch break is priceless. If Xbox is your main console, then it's a no-brainer because PC Gamepass is implemented flawlessly. Gog, Epic, Steam, and Amazon games give a lot of options. I went from Steam deck to the Og Ally, and i think the X is the version that i roll with until Microsoft makes one.

Initial set up is a pain and nowhere near as fast as a Steam Deck. This is about the only negative I have about it. Plays games great and Windows 11 works pretty good on handheld.

The ROG Ally X is an amazing option for handheld gaming. The overall design and construction of the device is very well thought out and solid. The buttons feel nice and the thumb stick lighting helps find the buttons at nighttime. The performance in game is very exceptional for a handheld device with a beautiful touchscreen display to show it off.
