I bought it open box for about $700. I installed Bazzite OS, much better than windows. Only issue is the buttons are a bit loud, but can be fixed with a little work and a YouTube tutorial. Great performance, great product.

The Definitive ROG Ally

I bought and returned the original Ally last year because the battery life was terrible when running Turbo 25 watt mode and when running 15 watt mode, the Steam Deck matched or beat it. This model however doubles the battery, improves ergonomics, has a 2280 SSD, and the buttons and thumbsticks are improved. I love this thing. I have a Steam Deck OLED and end up reaching for my Ally X more often.

Once you get passed the windows setup its nevsr been easier to play on gamepass or steam with a single device. Onky wish the screen was a bit bigger and the ergos were more aligned with the steam deck

With a dock I am able to complete any tasks I need on my 4k monitor. Using then Ally in handheld mode is a delightful experience. I am playing oblivion remastered and it runs well.

If you want more performance and juice then the SteamDeck OLED and don't mind the IPS VRR 1080p display (which is still quite nice) you'll be for super fun gaming sessions on the go.

My fiance has a ps5 and uses the tv, so I wanted something portable so I could sit on the couch with him and play. I am amazed by the picture quality and loading speed. I am not a hardcore gamer (came from playing on switch) but even my fiance is amazed by the quality of this hand-held!

Excellent handheld held back by OS

But rather than being plug and play, a bit of Microsoft setting adjustments are needed. If you dont care about batteries then set it to max and enjoy a handheld gaming beast.

The screen looks great and everything runs smoothly, but as an average gamer, I honestly don’t feel like I’m getting $900 worth of value out of it. It’s fast and impressive, but a lot of the technical upgrades are things I can’t really appreciate day to day. For casual gaming, the price just feels way too high, and I think there are more affordable options that would fit my needs just as well.
