So far, I'm pretty happy with this. I have arthritis in my hands, and I've found it really comfortable to hold for long periods. I spend all day on a computer at work, so it's nice to be able to switch to a handheld instead of another PC to play all the PC games I've collected. I've synced up and downloaded from Steam, Epic Games, GOG, and others with no issues. The only thing I'm disappointed about is that I'm not able to play all of my Xbox games on this. I thought that would be possible, and was one of the things I was really looking forward to, but it's only PC compatible games which does not include very many of the Xbox games I already own. This would be perfect if it could also do remote play like the PS Portal, so I had access to all my Xbox and PC games in one handheld. I

Runs great. Love the performance. Wish more xbox games were "play anywhere titles". Out of my 100+ owned games, only Hollow Knight, Silksong, and Mortal Kombat 11.... love my portable emulator and steam machine though!

    Great handheld "Xbox" console

Great handheld device, runs great games like battlefield 6 and other high power end games or new generation game, as long as the power cord is plug, the control is smooth and amazing similar to a xbox, the power under the hood is also great, the only downside of this product is the price, and sometimes the interface between windows, xbox and steam gets cluncky, but overall great product, if you are a gamer on the go, or people at your house use your tv, buy it.

I’ve been loving my ROG Ally X, it’s perfect for gaming on the go. I travel a lot, so not having to bring my whole Xbox console is a huge win. It’s powerful, portable, and runs everything smoothly wherever I am.

I grew up playing on consoles and PC. Always preferred the comfort of a controller and would hook up controllers when gaming on PC. Haven’t gamed much in years due to the complexity of setting up a whole rig. This made things easy for me and I’m gaming again at the end of my work days. Super stoked with the performance & form factor! I’m used to windows operating systems so the quarks that it comes with aren’t that annoying to me. I grew up using the psp, game boy & Nintendo DS. This thing is a dream! I mainly use it for steam games and not the Xbox library. It’s pricey but worth it and the price is within range of other pc handhelds of its caliber. Definitely got some weight to it, I prefer setting it on a pillow or rest when gaming. Mainly playing COD & survival games, been killer so far.

I find this review a little difficult to write, as I have not spent much time with my new ROG Xbox Ally X, as I’ve reached an age where I just buy things and rarely have time to play them, lo siento Señor Buy. But overall, the unit feels real nice the in the hands, and I have had the opportunity to play a few things. I would have to say it is the most comfortable handheld on the market, but the screen leaves a little to be desired, not going to knock it down past 4 stars though. Ultimately, if you are looking for a Quality Windows handheld, this or the new and more expensive Legion Go 2 are your Huckleberry. If you are looking for something more pick up and play, grab a Nintendo Switch 2, that one really takes it up to 11!

    The Most Powerful Handheld Yet

I’ve been really enjoying my time with the ROG Ally X — it’s easily the most powerful handheld I’ve ever used. You can play it anywhere, and it feels great and balanced in your hands, even during long gaming sessions. The screen resolution and color are incredible — everything looks crisp, vibrant, and alive. But what really sets the Ally X apart is that it’s a true Windows device, which makes it more than just a gaming console — it’s like having a mini PC with console vibes. Whether you’re gaming on the couch, traveling, or plugging it into a monitor for a full desktop setup, this device delivers. ASUS really nailed the mix between power, portability, and flexibility.

    Misleading name, decent handheld PC

VERY misleading. It's a windows pc handheld, NOT XBOX. They advertise "play all your games" but this is not true, the smaller print then goes into the different pc game storefronts. It should have been marketed/named "ROG Windows Gaming Ally X". For the cost, they should have included the case. Very disappointed I had to purchase a separate case for it. It has an included "stand". Flimsy cardboard that will easily be broken/crushed. You couldn't spend a little bit more for a plastic stand ASUS, or even a dock stand? Haven't played much on it, but overall performance seems good. Very confusing interface for a first time handheld PC user.

It feels and plays like an xbox controller with a screen in the middle. Super comfortable, the weight doesnt bother me. But it is definitely buggy at times. Software crashes on more intense games, so you will need to configure the settings accordingly. When swapping between games, the process is still pretty clunky. The whole handheld is saved by the flexibility it provides no matter what. It’s almost as powerful as a mid range PC, but has the ability to be docked to an external GPU to run just like a high end PC. Overall, im very happy with the purchase, just need microsoft to fine tune a few things to make the user interface smoother.

Very ergonomic and runs games really well. Can do older triple A games with ease. BF6 takes a bit of tweaking, but I find 7 inch too small to see enemies far away (I'm also bad at FPS lol). I do have the squeaky right trigger which is a minor annoyance, but what's more unforgiving is stick drift right out the box. The LCD is really good, comparable to Switch 2 but I still prefer OLED. Xbox full screen is okay, after all the updates it loads and runs without issue, but I mostly use Steam Big Picture mode which sometimes doesn't fill the whole screen and I have to reboot. But most importantly, Steam Deck OLED vents smells better. (IYKYK)

Just know what you are getting into. This is NOT a portable XBOX, but a portable Gaming PC. The pluses, way more powerful than STEAM Deck, XBOX Full Screen Experience, although in its nascent state is a winner, the speakers are great, and the the ASUS Armoury Crate is a very mature and stable software suite. The negatives, the screen should have been better. It's expensive for what it is. However, all the gaming PC handhelds are the collection of compromises and none are perfect. Overall, the ROG XboX Ally X is the easiest compromise to live with.

The product is great, when I first got the Xbox rog ally x both games and system are great. Playing pc games on the go is a benefit when you don’t have time at home, but entering my 3rd week with the device I have notice a few bugs that’s been bugging me. Sometimes the Xbox controller wouldn’t connect properly, the Xbox UI is a bit choppy, and the touch screen turns is self off and is unresponsive having me to do a shut down or restart. Honestly might return before my return windows closes

The handheld is comfortable to use for long periods. Battery life is pretty good even in demanding games. When plugged in this thing performs really well, but hey that's not always available. I'm a Game Pass subscriber so if a game supports a PC install, I can install right on the device. If I play it through cloud I've had a lot of success. I played Borderlands 3 for a whole afternoon from cloud and it felt very native. I tried an older game Ori and the Blind Forest and it struggled via cloud. The new full screen Xbox experience is the big push and the big play from Microsoft here. If you're an experienced Windows user, you're going to be fine. If not, well, it has a long way to go. I think if they stick with it, it's going to work out. Right now trying to have two users on this thing is a little painful. I got it to work but I'm also an experienced Windows user. I'm getting a lot of use out of this. But it's not for everyone. If you think taking your PC games on the go is worth it, you get that with Steam, Epic, GOG, Xbox and really just whatever runs on Windows. Without hooking up more accessories, your games or apps really need to be controller friendly. But if you're willing to bind up keyboard and mouse it's possible to set it down and use those peripherals. That's not my use case. I want this to play games. I'm finding some Steam games are really great on here... ones more ready for a controller or Steam Big Picture experience. Xbox Remote Play (where it streams from your console over your home wifi) works really well. I dont use it much... I almost would rather just cloud stream. Overall I think if you are a PC and Xbox gamer and you think you might get value in a portable handheld, this is a powerful and useful device. If not, give this space more time. It's going to improve and we're going to see more offerings.
