I’m an Xbox/console gamer first and foremost and wanted to dip a toe into PC. I can not recommend this enough, it plays so well with Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere. Bringing this on work trips and flights make gaming so simple and switching between my console and ROG is seamless. It’s awesome to have your Xbox games and Steam games at your fingertips, or TV with a dock.

TL;DR I love my ROG Xbox Ally X, though it’s not without its downsides and the positives I have may not be positive for other users. And if you upgrade the storage, use a new NVME SSD to avoid headaches, trust me. The ROG Xbox Ally X really improved from the original ROG Ally. I’m comparing these two because I bought the original Ally and I now have repurposed it as a family PC that my parents love using. Though also because it’s a direct upgrade coming from the Ryzen Z1 Extreme in the Ally, to the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme. I do love the direct upgrades from the ergonomics of holding the console to making upgrading down the line easier for consumers to venture into if they want to expand their storage. Some other things I love is how much more smooth it feels compared to the original Z1 Extreme Ally. Personal likes I have is Xbox’s integrated full screen experience, though it is accessible on other handheld consoles. I also like how it runs full windows, though it’s because I’m very used to navigating windows as a PC gamer and long time windows user. I do plan on using this Ally as something I can game on the go with, as well as a station I can have outside the house, put on a desk/connect to a tv, and connect a keyboard and mouse to have a gaming PC on the go. The problems I have with this product is that ASUS is pretty bad with customer service and not helpful for the personal problems I have. I was trying to use an SSD I already had from my PC to used in my ROG Ally. I contacted customer support for the manufacturer of the SSD and ASUS. The SSD manufacturer tried their best to have me use it but to no avail; ASUS was worse and just told me the obvious saying that it doesn’t work. If you use a used SSD with the ROG Xbox Ally X there’s a chance it might not make it through the whole cloud installation process and end up in an installation loop. This is easily solved with a new SSD. I know because I bit the bullet, bought the same exact SSD I tried to use new from Best Buy. And the install worked flawlessly. Me figuring out this problem took days and this experience as well as the small drawbacks of the ROG Xbox Ally X and made me bump it down to 4 stars.

One of the best Handheld out there, very comfortable grip, play very single game you throw at it, battery is great, you have to learn to do things around it to get it setup and ready very easy to use, I upgraded 1TB to 4TB without any problems, just plug in the NVME M.2 and follow the instructions through their website to upgrade SSD, screen is beautiful and bright, setting it need a bit patient, and machine is amazing and am so addicted to it playing my steam library on the go, also its a PC and gaming handled, you can download Emulators, steam, Epic games, GOG, etc OS on it. The new Xbox full screen experience make it easier to navigate through.

I love this thing! It handles all the games I want to play on Steam (the most “advanced” one I’ve played is Red Dead Redemption and it runs perfectly and looks beautiful!) and having my Xbox library available at a push of one button is extremely convenient. I also love how easy it is to switch over to desktop mode and use it for the work I used to do on my old laptop. It’s super comfortable to hold and I’ve never had the battery die on me; it lasts a long time. Overall EXTREMELY happy with my purchase!

Xbox Ally X wins over Legion Go 2

Here’s a tightened, cleaner, more polished version of your review while keeping your tone, opinions, and structure intact. I didn’t change what you’re saying—just how it flows, reads, and lands: ⸻ Review After Owning the Xbox Ally X and the Legion Go 2 The Xbox Ally X is a great device and has come a long way from the original model. While it’s not perfect, there’s a lot here to like—and only a handful of gripes. Here are my key pros and cons after hands-on time with both the Ally X and the Legion Go 2. ⸻ Pros 1. Ergonomics This is the biggest win for the Xbox Ally X. It’s incredibly easy and comfortable to hold, even during long sessions. I recently completed the Black Ops 6 campaign on it, and the experience was genuinely enjoyable. The built-in grips aren’t the prettiest thing to look at, but they’re absolutely worth it. In comparison, the Legion Go 2 felt awkward to hold, especially with its poor button and joystick placement. 2. Controls This is huge—and I don’t think enough people are talking about it. The joysticks, their placement, and the overall button layout are all excellent. The sticks are even tighter than a standard Xbox Series controller, making it absolutely viable for competitive games. This alone was the deciding factor for me keeping the XAX over the Legion Go 2. The Legion’s joysticks are floppy, poorly placed, and practically unusable—too low on the “joycon” so your palm ends up where your thumb should be. On the Ally X, the triggers feel great and the vibration in both the grips and triggers is fantastic. 3. Speakers & Fan Noise These speakers rock. They’re loud, full, and deliver impressive directional audio. The fans are also shockingly quiet—you rarely, if ever, hear them, which makes the whole experience feel more premium. 4. Xbox Full Screen Experience I’m optimistic about where this is heading. It’s not perfect and can be a little laggy at times, but it’s improving with updates. Compared to the messy software experience on the Legion Go, this feels far more streamlined and semi-console-like. ⸻ Cons 1. The Screen This is the biggest disappointment for me. A 16:10 7” or even 8” display would have been ideal. It doesn’t even need to be OLED—I’d rather keep the price down than turn it into a “halo” device like the Legion. The current screen looks fine, but it’s small and not especially immersive. The excellent speakers help a lot, but small opponents in games can be tough to pick out on a display this size. 2. Xbox Full Screen Experience Like I said, it’s good but still needs work. Ideally the user should never have to leave full screen for anything. Right now you still need to drop back into Windows to adjust system settings, check for updates in Windows/Armory Crate/Microsoft Store, etc. Lots of rebooting back and forth. 3. USB Ports Minor gripe, but the ports are too close together, making it hard to plug in multiple accessories. ⸻ Conclusion That’s really it for the big cons. I’m ultimately keeping the ROG Xbox Ally X over the Legion Go 2, and I feel like I’m in the minority. A lot of people seem obsessed with having a pretty OLED screen—even if the device is heavy, awkward, and not fun to actually play on. For me, ergonomics and functionality matter more, and the Ally X delivers where it counts.

This device is awesome. It's my first high end handheld gaming device. But word to the wise. This is a really a portable PC. Note, not all xbox games will work on this. Only Xbox Anywhere games & games from the other PC store launchers will play natively on this device. Expected at least an hour for the initial setup and updates. When you get the chance, open the MyAsus app and do the updates there first, as its updates armory crate & the bios. Then finish up with the windows updates in desktop mode. Build quality is great. I love the ergonomics, I can game on this for hours with comfort.

I love how confortable is the controller grip. The 80w battery capacity is a great improvement, and the cooling thermal system make it run cool and efficient. Can play on the go and docked. Armory Crate makes configuration a breezes.

This is the XBOX Rog Ally 1TB version with 24GBS of Ram with a white Rubber Skin over it. Here is one issue you run into if you try install GTA San Andreas From Steam it will throw an error trying to open it and play it, it's looking for a 800x600x32 video mode, you can go online for a work around of if you own the updated version from the Microsoft Store it will run gone. Some games for XBOX may tell you the game may not not be Compatiadle with the Rog, it's trial and Error, I'm playing Pinball FX3 and and showed that error but plays just fine. You can install games from the Microsoft Store, I'm playing Hill Climb Racing and it works great. The Rog Ally feels great in the hand for a portable gaming device, battery life is ok could be better. One issue is when signing in with a password or pin is the keyboard may not open to type in the password or pin so it's a guick restart will work, it's the salme on my esktop it's a windows 11 thing. I'm Glad I bought it I really like it.

Could not have asked for better prices, shipping, and customer care. The ROG Xbox Ally X has been in my hands every day since it arrived. This little handheld is so powerful and smooth. It has exceeded all of my expectations. Feels great in the hands, so much so that a normal Xbox controller feels small and almost fragile after playing with it for a week. I rarely ever turn my Xbox Series S on anymore, if I wanna play on the big screen, just dock it and it performs better than the actual console. Highly recommend anyone thinking about getting one of these to definitely make the jump and buy it! Especially through Best Buy, I looked for months before deciding and I'm glad I went with them.

I was going to buy a Switch 2 but realized there weren't a heck of a lot of first-party titles that i would play. So I dropped a few hundred more and got this. My main games are Forza Horizon 5 and Pinball FX 3 and this plays both very well. I also gave the latest Indiana Jones title a spin and it plays great too. Battery life isn't the best in the world, but with the power this uses, I do better than expected. With Gamepass Ultimate, a decent number of games in my MS library, and loaded Steam and Epic games libraries I have tons of content without having to buy anything. This thing is awesome! Only downside is that it might be a little on the spendy side. I am an adult though so it won't kill me :)

I recently got my hands on the ROG Xbox Ally X and I have to say—it’s a truly impressive handheld. From the moment I picked it up, the ergonomics stood out. The grips feel comfortable and the button layout is very intuitive, which makes those longer sessions far less tiring. Many reviewers highlighted this too. Performance-wise, the Ally X delivers in a big way. With the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip, 24 GB DDR5X and a 1 TB SSD, it handles demanding games with ease. According to benchmarks it outpaces many rivals in portable power. The Windows 11-based “Xbox Full-Screen Experience” adds real value, blending console-style simplicity with PC gaming freedom. One review said: “If you’re serious about gaming on the go, this is a great option.” That said, it isn’t perfect. The price is steep—many feel you’re paying a premium for handheld portability. Battery life remains the usual trade-off for power: you’ll get a fantastic experience, but not all day unplugged. In summary: if you’re looking for one of the most capable handheld gaming PCs on the market, and you’re willing to invest for premium, then the ROG Xbox Ally X is absolutely worth it. If budget or battery life are bigger concerns, you might want to weigh those trade-offs.

This system is a powerhouse I did not expect. Sure I read all the reviews and watched all the marketing hype up videos but, this gaming machine actually lives up to it all. Now I’m studying all the extras I can buy for it. But first I need a decent travel case for it. If you’re looking for an amazing machine to play your games while mobile the way they were meant to be played ASUS ROG ALLY X is the one you want.

The Xbox edition of the ASUS ROG Ally X is a excellent handheld computer. I’m absolutely blown away at the power this portable PC has, and it’s full potential still isn’t unlocked yet. They are still releasing updates for the AI powered GPU. The best way to play is with the devices plugged in and set to turbo mode. Still way more power than you need. Playing in the performance mode while not plugged in is still plenty for an enjoyable game session . They’re working on updates as you’re reading this to unlock the full potential of the integrated AI. The Xbox interface is easy to navigate, and accessing the desktop to windows 11 is easy also. It took about 30 or so minutes to get use to navigating the menus and figuring out the armory button and the Xbox button. There are different functions for quick and long presses. Having Xbox gamepass is a plus, there’s a lot to play and you can stream the game and try it out before you decide if you wanna commit and download it. Overall really pleased with it.
