Awesome gaming handheld!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is amazing for people looking for a portable handheld gaming device. The Xbox Ally X is essentially a mini PC giving you the ability to play your favorite games on your gaming launcher of choice. The grips feel sturdy and comfortable just as you would holding and Xbox controller. The screen is a bit smaller than i would prefer, but still very clear and clean. If you’re a PC gamer looking for a portable option to gaming for trips away from you home PC, this is the best choice on the market today. You also have the option to expand memory by swapping the internal SSD or by simply inserting a micro SD into the corresponding slot.

ANOTHER W
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG Ally X is an absolute beast of a handheld. The 7" FHD 120Hz display is crisp and buttery smooth, making games look incredible on the go. Performance from the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme is impressive—games run fast and stable, even demanding titles. With 24GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, load times are quick and multitasking is effortless. Windows gives full PC flexibility, and the included 3-month Xbox Game Pass Premium is a huge bonus. Build quality feels premium, controls are comfortable, and battery improvements over the original really show. This thing is dope and a serious upgrade.

Rog power
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Xbox Rog Ally X is an amazing handheld PC. Graphics are top notch and run smoothly Even when running games like Clair Obscure Expedition 33 on performance mode. Windows 11 still is not perfect but being able to go from windows to xbox with one button is a game changer. Battery life is ok 4.5 hours You can connect a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and there is a slot to add an external graphics card if you need more power. Also handles heat very well you can feel it being pushed out of the vents on the top of the device. So far does not over heat but of course runs best with constant power connecting using the ac adapter runs in turbo mode. Its feels like you are holding an xbox controller. Not very heavy and weight seems to be distributed evenly when holding the device. May not be worth the price to some but I think it is.

The holy trinity
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coming from both owning a xbox series x and a pc, definitely recommend this handheld, some xbox games aren't supported for it but sheesh, the on the go cloud saves definitely rocks. I be playing forza horizon 5 (xbox), BF6 (EA play) and GTA4 (steam) at work and when i get home to play, it's already synced and ready to go. Obviously you'd need wifi in order to sync. Besides that, quality is durable, game play is like playing a psp when it first came out. Crazy of how technology advanced so much since.. worth the buy! Don't be fooled by "it's an xbox" because yes and no, you'll see what i mean when you pick it up yourself. So far, my friend sold his legion to buy the xbox ally and enjoys it better.

Powerhouse within your hands
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing run Avowed at a comfortable 50-60 fps at all time, while being cool at the same time. Very comfortable to play for hours at a time, and I carry it for a short gaming session during my break at work everyday. Could not be any happier with this device!

Doesn't die in 40 minutes.
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was initially hesitant about the price, but the Ally X has been a great choice. The battery life is impressive—I can play for hours without needing to plug in. It's also more comfortable than the first version. While Windows can be tricky, performance for gaming is excellent. If you have a big Game Pass library, it's a solid option, though I recommend installing SteamOS (better battery life and performance). Best Buy's delivery was quick, too.

Amazing PC handheld
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a large gray area system. I wouldn't say it's an Xbox, but rather a PC handheld being integrated into the Xbox ecosystem a bit. The sound quality is phenomenal. The system runs games quite well in comparison to my previous generation original Lenovo legion go. I would have loved to see an 8 inch when or so on this, but 7 inch isn't a deal breaker for me either. The steam deck OLED is 7.4 inches though putting this at one of the smallest mainstreams on the market now. Something to consider if screen size matters to you. Otherwise I love everything about it. The price point is more competitive than the legion go 2 and I'm curious to see what Microsoft does with their new FSE interface and the a.i. processor in it. I kinda brought the dream over the system, but I have no regrets. This is a great console for the "PC HANDHELD", not so much an Xbox enthusiast.

Glad I didn't return.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this in kind of a spur of the moment kinda situation. Once I got it, it dawned on me that I don't really game anymore. I was about to send it back, but one of my friends said I should at least try it. I'm so glad I did because it made me realize that the reason I hadn't been gaming was because it had become too inconvenient with my busy schedule. However, with this, it's as simple as booting it up and you're good to go. Basically wherever. No need for additional accessories or cables or wires. It's probably not as powerful as my Series X, but it doesn't have to be. The graphics are great. It can easily handle 120fps. Aside from boot up, I haven't experienced lag in games or anything. The only downside is the price, but for what I paid, I'm happy with what I get out of it.

Almost perfect
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A huge step up from the original ROG Ally. This ROG Ally X2 can handle just about everything minus some exceptions from heavy hitters like MGS3 Delta and Alan Wake. Performance mode is really where this thing shines. Running in performance and tweaking some settings will get most games running smoothly and with great battery life. Turbo mode doesn't seem to shine here though, not this time. Couldnt give it a perfect score with the poor choice in screen instead of an OLED. The screen is easily the worst thing about this device.

Best of the best
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ive had multiple handhelds. This is the best of them all by far. The screen, while not an oled, is rich, beight and colorful. The sound is ridiculously good for the size of the speakers , the controls feel just like using an xbox controller, and the side grips, which may look silly at first glance, are the most comfortable addition to amy heldheld ive ever owned. This is a powerful handheld gaming device, capable of playing anything you could possibly think of to play on it with little or no comprimise. Its also worth noting, the battery life is also amazing, and you will have hours to game on the go. If youre on the fence between this or any of the other cheaper handhelds, do yourself a favor and just spend the little extra. You wont regret it.

Neat toy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this for some upcoming travel after hearing friends talk about various similar products they owned. I’ve fluctuated from Console to PC back and forth over the last few decades, but largely have felt best on a mouse and keyboard. For the primary use of travel, I’d say this is about the best option in 2025 to bring your pc games with you. You have the option of docking and using a mouse/kb and even an external display. I was planning to use on the train, airplane etc and for my preference it was a bit unwieldy for that application. Cumbersome to switch through menus to adjust brightness down on the plane, and overall not a pleasant experience for me. If you need to bring your games with you, however, this is likely a great option for you. Battery life was fairly good overall and it does give you a substantial library of options on the go.

STOKED!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I grew up playing on consoles and PC. Always preferred the comfort of a controller and would hook up controllers when gaming on PC. Haven’t gamed much in years due to the complexity of setting up a whole rig. This made things easy for me and I’m gaming again at the end of my work days. Super stoked with the performance & form factor! I’m used to windows operating systems so the quarks that it comes with aren’t that annoying to me. I grew up using the psp, game boy & Nintendo DS. This thing is a dream! I mainly use it for steam games and not the Xbox library. It’s pricey but worth it and the price is within range of other pc handhelds of its caliber. Definitely got some weight to it, I prefer setting it on a pillow or rest when gaming. Mainly playing COD & survival games, been killer so far.

Best handheld on the market
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG Xbox Ally X is the top-tier variant of the newly launched Windows-based handheld gaming system. Microsoft and ASUS have officially partnered to bring an “Xbox Full-Screen Experience” handheld that combines PC gaming (Steam, Epic, Game Pass, etc) with Xbox’s interface Key specs for the Ally X include: a 7-inch 1080p (FHD) display with up to 120 Hz refresh, an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24 GB LPDDR5X RAM, a 1 TB SSD, and an 80 Wh battery. The standard ROG Xbox Ally (non-X) sits at a lower tier (Ryzen Z2 A, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD). This device is aimed at gamers who want portable AAA gaming with console-friendly controls but PC-like flexibility. What Works (Pros) Ergonomics & controls Many reviewers highlight the build and grips of the Ally X as a major win: comfortable controller-style grips, excellent button layout, impressively quiet fans in many cases, which all combine to a handheld feel that is more polished than many earlier PC‐handheld attempts. Performance and graphics headroom Thanks to the Z2 Extreme chip and the higher-end specs, the Ally X delivers substantially better performance relative to many competitors (e.g., the base model or earlier handhelds) in real-world tests. For example, in one benchmark the Ally X managed ~62 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p medium while plugged in. Windows + Xbox integration flexibility The device is not just locked to one ecosystem: you get full Windows 11 (with the “Xbox Full-Screen Experience” overlay) which means access to Game Pass, Steam, Epic, and more. This gives it versatility that pure console handhelds often lack. Display refresh & visuals Having a 120 Hz screen (albeit at 1080p) is a nice perk in a handheld, enabling smoother visuals when the hardware allows it. Reviewers mention that the fast refresh rate makes the experience feel more “console-like” in smoothness. Where It Falls Short (Cons) Price is steep At around US $999 (or equivalent) for the Ally X, the cost is a major barrier. As one review bluntly puts it: “It’s just a shame that it costs a grand.” Battery life remains limited for AAA gaming Despite improvements in battery size and efficiency, real-world gaming battery life for demanding titles is still modest. TechRadar’s battery benchmark for gaming shows around 3 hours of actual gameplay under heavy load. Screen and display trade-offs Though the device boasts 120Hz, the screen is still 1080p (not 1440p or 4K) and is not OLED (which many premium handhelds now offer). Some reviewers highlight this as a missed opportunity. Windows / software complexity Because it’s a full Windows device layered under an Xbox-friendly UI, there can be more setup/maintenance (drivers, Windows updates, game installation) than a dedicated console handheld. Some users note friction with the “Full Screen Experience” mode versus classic Windows. Not a pure console experience One key caveat: even though it feels like a portable console, it is a PC gaming handheld. That means games may require tweaking, settings adjustment, and depending on the title, may not hit native 60fps/120fps without compromise.

Pricy but works well
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off yes this thing costs a thousand bucks. Just wanted to get that out of the way. You have to look at what you’re getting though. It’s a fully functioning pc crammed into what feels like an Xbox controller with a 7 inch screen in the middle. If you have game pass then you have access to a crapload of games off the bat. You can also link your Steam, GOG, epic games store and Ubi accounts to access your libraries. Despite being called an XBox it does not natively play Xbox console games. Only the ones that were also released on pc. Depending on the game you’re playing you can get up to 120FPS. I’ve been playing Expedition 33 at 900p and the game runs 25-30FPS in the consoles “silent mode”. Which reminds me the system has different power modes (silent, performance, turbo and windows) to conserve battery and increase capabilities. If you have it plug it in it goes into full 35W mode that gets you better FPS on games. Could the screen be a bit bigger? Sure, but it’s not a deal breaker for me. I also purchased the ROG Bulwark Dock so I can connect it to my living room tv and just game there. All in all I think this thing is great once you get past the price. A full functioning portable pc that isn’t a laptop that gets 1 1/2 to 4 hours of battery life depending on the power settings. If you’re a console gamer that wants to just dip your toe in pc land then I would say this is a solid choice. You have to do all the standard windows updates and things of that nature so it is not as plug and play as a console however, it’s much more than that. I definitely recommend it.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE MINE!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am coming from the original Z1E and I know they say it’s only a 10-15% performance difference (fps increase) but trust me when I say you FEEL it. Not only is everything running buttery smooth but I feel like the WiFi connection is faster and the data transfer for the SSD is much faster. Combine that with the much bigger battery, much better efficiency (at 17w you’re getting the same performance as a 30w turbo on the older Z1E devices) which gives you more hours playing TRIPLE A games insanely smooth at 1080p or if you wanna upscale (which is phenomenal as well). Cyberpunk runs like a dream, well honestly this thing hasn’t struggled to run anything I’ve thrown at it on high settings.

First handheld experience
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Set up was easy. Getting steam and my other gaming apps installed was easy. Cloud gaming on it is great and saves space for other games. Streaming via steam runs smooth too. Picture quality is great and the gameplay is smooth. I play with it plugged in to get turbo mode most of the time but even unplugged the battery lasts a few hours and games run just as smooth as they do when it's plugged in. Discord comms works on this as well which is great when I'm on the go and want to play games with my friends. Overall great product so far without any issues.
