Simply put- Amazing
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the ally x day one, loved it, had over 5000 hours on it, i bought this xbox ally x around dec 11th. It is definitely worth the upgrade. The 3.5 rdna architecture is better then the ally x- meaning the terrain and background , hair, water , leaves , trees all that looks ALOT more realistic. The battery lasts the same which is a good 2.5 to 3 ish hours on 17 watts, which will play black ops at close to 60fps or higher with amd software frame gen. On 85 inch 120hz tv Spiderman remastered with amd frame gen no upscaling and in game frame gen looks flawless, spiderman 2 looks amazing but has some ghosting when running very fast up buildings. The fingerprint reader works alot better then the rog x. The grips ARE AMAZING. The machine doesnt get hot, the screen is good - wish it had HDR. But when connected to TV it outputs HDR. I do not use xbox experience- no need to i love the windows and the steam setup. I cloned my rog x ssd to a 4tb samsung pro 990 and put it in immediatly and it opened and did some updates - maybe one or two and works flawless. You do need to know how to do the settings with amd adrenaline software and in game settings to acheive ps5 level look and performance. But this is as close to a ps5 as you can get and its the only handheld with the NPU that does the A.i. tech without using GPu. If you can afford it with the best buy credit card 2 years no interest 45 a month wow. Best gaming invention ever in my opinion with windows and steam you have unlimited gaming options in your hand and tv.

Performance, Comfortable, Stability
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really comfortable. I thought the 7 inch screen would be an issue but you get used to it, if it’s the only handheld device or the bigger one. Perfect for a 1080p resolution with sharp visuals. Z2 extreme is much more power efficient than Z1 extreme so I can get a much longer battery life out it without sacrificing performance. The ergonomics are really good! Only wish it were a bit smaller and less heavier. I initially bought right around the launch time but returned it because of clunky software but it has improved, especially the stability and the UI responding to inputs, it’s almost there just a bit more refinement to make it feel snappy. Sleep and wake mode has been surprisingly great as well, both in terms of getting back into a game and very low power draw. Also, lastly, ASUS, if you are reading this, please let us customize things inside Armory crate, like choice UI sounds, game art (maybe the ability to link steam grid DB)! Also, I got a good deal on open box at my local Best Buy!

ROG Ally Xbox X, seriously a true Game-Changer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG Ally Xbox X is an absolute powerhouse. I’ve used the Steam Deck, MSI Claw, and the previous ROG Ally X, and this latest version is a major upgrade. I was able to play Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty while docked to a 144Hz gaming monitor, and the experience was incredibly smooth—especially with the ROG Bulwark dock, which let me hardwire the device to the internet instead of relying on Wi-Fi. This handheld is seriously powerful. While I still use my gaming PC at home, the Ally Xbox X lets me keep playing seamlessly when I’m on the go. One important tip: if you’re using the Bulwark dock, make sure to get a 100W or 140W charger. The 65W charger that comes with the device isn’t enough to support the Turbo mode, and you’ll need that extra power to unlock its full potential. Overall, the Ally Xbox X is a beast. Highly recommended for serious gamers who want flexibility without sacrificing performance. Picture of my Xbox Ally X docked in a Bulwark at work! o

Pricey, but solid gaming handheld
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The poorly named "ROG Xbox Ally X" is a much more refined version of the original ROG Ally. Performance of the Z2 extreme over the original Z1 Extreme chip is noticeable on high demand titles like Doom: The Dark Ages. Battery life is also much improved which was my biggest issue with the original device. The original ROG Ally barely lasted an hour or two while this device at least doubles that time. The device is comfortable to hold for long periods of time, although looks a bit odd compared to more traditional shaped handhelds. The LED screen is a decent size at 7 inches and "good enough," but would have expected at least an OLED panel for a thousand bucks. Windows is also a bit clunky as a handheld, but the Xbox overlay when you start the device tries to hide that and provide an easier to use interface. I still think the future of handheld gaming will not utilize Windows but Android or Linux/Steam. Overall however, it's a solid and powerful device which allows gamers to pick up and play without too much additional configuration of other similar (Android) devices.

Pretty dang good even for esports
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Xbox Rog Ally X is a great product but only if you’re comfortable messing with settings here an there to make it run the way you like. In many cases there might not be much you need to do if yoy’re running 720p or 900p with 60fps or less, but to run 120fps with 900p or 1080p mighr require you to mess with settings and tweak things until it can run smoothly and maintain theframe rate. As far as i can tell it heavily prioritizes the resolution over the framerate which i think is why i had so many things to tweak, but its still an amazing product. I use it for Horror games like 7 days to die and outlast trials but also play Overwatch and Marvel Rivals on it with minumal issues. Its essentially a mini pc. If you understand how to use a gaming pc you’ll understand this device. If you’re coming from console it may be a bit of a pesrning curve but not nearly as much considering you won’t be mouse and keyboarding by default. Highly recommend for portability.

Best handheld of 2025
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is by far one of best buys i had in a while where I didn’t regret buying it after a few uses im actually having trouble putting it down it so fun to play natively or steaming this thing keeps up with all the games I throw at it and i can game and run a web browser to listen to music, have discord chats, or even use it like a tablet for social media apps. The interface is so easy to get used to i learn in a few days how to download apps and set up my device for gaming and using the controls for graphics are really easy I usually get 45-60 fps on any games i play without FRS we are still in the beginning stages of handheld devices but I can’t wait to see what asus has in store for the future of handheld devices but this fills the void. The storage is almost at capacity i wished they would’ve went with 2tb but still good enough to have almost 10 games of 80gb and i mainly play singer player games and this decives helps so much when playing a grinding task game when im away from home and got nothing to do but I really i have on me most of time so i cant so gaming time but overall i love this device i will recommend to anyone but it literally just the price that might be intimidating, but in my honest opinion I feel like I got everything I paid for.

Best portable console yet
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG xbox Ally X is a great portable console and powerful, playing all games, including triple-A titles. The battery life is great; you can play for 4 to 6 hours. I play my Steam games and Xbox cloud games on it. I don't really mess with Windows 11 on it too much. For it to run great, you have to keep up with the updates to work better when you're playing. The ROG feels great in your hands. I would recommend it

My first PC Console
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a strict Nintendo user, I have never needed a PC gaming console of any kind. That is, until I saw Steam and how many games it has. Not only that, but it takes a few years to adapt them to the Switch. I have a switch lite so already the screen of this device is improved 10 fold with 7in. While the non-oled screen is a deal breaker for some, I think the brightness and saturation on the Xbox ROG Ally X is amazing. This screen is 100x better than my switch. Why choose this over the Steam Deck? Comfort. I grip the handles, place this baby on a pillow and enjoy my steam experience. I've tried the Steam Deck Oled and regular one and I can't go more than an hour before my small hands hurt. Mind you, this console is a BEAST. Not to mention I just found out I can hook it up to my TV screen! I grabbed some xbox controllers and my HDMI cord and I am set. Unlike the switch where I have to lug a dock around. The controls take some getting used to if you are like me and only know Nintendo, but within two months it's second nature. If this is your first PC console, go for it! I doubt I'll have any regrets for the next few years. (side note, grab the killswitch case from Dbrand for the kickstand feature and grip enhancement!)

Portable PC That Lets Do Your Taxes!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This beast of a device is absolutely amazing. If you've been thinking about getting a gaming PC, look no further than here. Sure it's a bit pricey, but that's what payment plans are for lol. And since its a PC, you can do everything a PC can do. To tell you this much, I even did my taxes on it! And it worked out just fine! Now when will you ever be able to say I completed my taxes on a portable gaming device?! This offers the best of pc and Xbox, and it's just as fun as it sounds. Plus, if you buy the ROG Bulwark dock and the 100w charger block, you get a HDMI cable and a monitor, you got your full PC setup there. It's a portable gaming PC with Xbox games. What more can you ask for?

Best handheld PC on the market as of early 2026
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Basically a portable PS4, which is insane. Once you get through the pain of setting up Windows (multiple updates), it's pure gaming bliss after that. Windows sucks, but it also means you can play literally anything and everything on this device (including very old PC games, emulators, etc). Performance is outstanding, even at low TDP (unlike the prior Z1 Extreme-based handhelds). Also, for some reason it has THE best sticks I've ever used on any device (including the $200 Xbox Elite). This really matters for racing games in particular. If you can afford it, this is a must-buy gadget for any PC gamer. I haven't touched my Steam Deck since I got it.

The Future of Gaming
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly this is what the original Ally and Ally X were going for and while not perfect just yet, it’s going to be considered the standard all future companies attempt to live up to. Every update thus far has improved the experience and made it even better than it was out if box. Ive had every generation of the Ally and all of them while great, were definitely more of minimum viable product release or proof of concept in a way. Im an early adopter and software engineer that has been pc gaming since the early 2000s. The original allys were awesome if you really knew your way around the world of pc gaming software and hardware. Those first generations, while I loved in everyway and started bringing the handheld gaming world back into existence they weren’t in anyway handehld consoles they were actually PCs with a gamepad attached to them….The old generations weren’t necessarily products I would recommend to my stepdad for example who is a life long console only gamer, older, and less windows or computer inclinded…..when something wasnt working on those versions you really had to know the windows backend to get it fixed…..not something he would have been great at doing…….This version however is the closest we’ve come to mimicing the original goat handheld-console that was the PSP! After a few weeks playong on this version with zero need to leave the xbox ui it boots into….completely error free, I knew it was time for my stepdad to get one…..i just bought another one for my step dad for christmas this year. Just buy it if you have the means, are okay with newer products that have some quirks here and there, and want to game on a handheld that is tied to xbox…. For those of you out there looking for an iphone ios level of refinement and experience on a handheld in a product category younger than my first born son….don’t buy it….yet! Wait another two iterations and im sure it’ll be flawless by then. The Product categories still too new to fault any of the shortcomings as flaws in this model, the only thing I feel like they could have gone the extra mile on and didnt is the screen….for the love of god its 2025 put an oled in the thing and offer something more than 1080 so we can all use RSR and scale it down to 1080. I feel once the ai gpu/npu/integrated graphics world grows up a little more theyll have no problem making this change without ruining the battery life or FPS. But yeah buy it….

A Portable Powerhouse for Gaming Anywhere
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This handheld is an absolute powerhouse. You can play virtually anything you want on the go, and the performance is consistently smooth. I also appreciate that it includes the Xbox app, which works flawlessly with Game Pass, and that it supports other platforms like Steam, EA App, Rockstar Launcher, and more. The battery life is excellent, lasting much longer than I expected, and the ergonomics are surprisingly comfortable — it feels great in the hands during long gaming sessions. Overall, I’m extremely happy with this product and excited to see what ASUS brings in future handheld devices.

gotta be the best hand held
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.upgraded from a steam deck LCD base model and while it didn’t feel like a huge upgrade at first, i did some tinkering and it’s definitely better. i can run many games i could never have run on that deck. still unsure about FPS and stuff but it has some kind of stabilization so when i play games running 30fps jankily, it still feels completely fine to play. ran cyberpunk no complaints, mainly what the deck sucked at was huge loading spikes making me lag. horizon forbidden west ran totally fine. not too many graphics compromises i had to make with the settings overall, but keep in mind im not playing a handheld for the best graphics. i just don’t want it to look like ps2 style graphics. elden ring runs at 30 but i think its locked? i need to mess with the settings more. there’s legit so many options cause its windows. the lossless scaling plus all the built in fps tools plus ones from the web, idek. you could easily screw up how a game looks by generating too many frames and all these settings. plus games have their own optimization settings too that i don’t really get. point being, it runs whatever you throw at it if its plugged in. better than the portal cause no wifi constraints. actually has the bonus of just being a portal cause it has the gamepass streaming. better than the lcd steam deck cause it runs so many things. less intuitive but it’s like an android vs an iphone it’s not like you’re starting from scratch learning to code. the oled screens on the steam deck and legion definitely look better overall, but i think this is the best in the handheld category right now given the insanely high pricing of all of them. the legion 2 go is probably better by a small margin (not counting the visual of the OLED), but the cpu is the bottleneck not the ram, from what i gathered. we just aren’t there yet with cpus on handhelds and this is pretty much the best there is right now.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Blown Away – Perfect Handheld for
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently bought the ASUS ROG Ally X and honestly, I’m super impressed. From the moment I opened the box, it looked amazing. The device feels premium right away — not too big, not too small — just the perfect size for a handheld. It’s lightweight, easy to hold, and very comfortable even during long gaming sessions. I’ve played for 5+ hours straight without feeling any discomfort. Performance is where this device really shines. I’m currently playing The Crew Motorfest and Avatar, and I’m honestly amazed. The graphics, smoothness, and overall experience are incredible for a handheld. No lag, no stuttering, and no performance drops at all. I mostly play AAA games in Turbo Mode while connected to the charger (which is expected for high-performance gaming). I even played for 6–7 hours straight while plugged in and didn’t experience any overheating. The only time it gets warm is if you block the fan vents — which is normal for any device. As long as airflow is clear, cooling works perfectly. The display looks great, colors are good, and speakers are solid. I did see the Lenovo handheld at an expo (the screen looked very impressive), but it felt too big — almost like holding a tablet. The ROG Ally X feels like a true gaming handheld — compact, balanced, and powerful. The joysticks are smooth with no dead zones. Controls feel responsive and precise. It’s clearly designed for long sessions. If I had to mention one small thing — I occasionally hear a slight plastic creak sound from the right side when gripping it firmly. It’s very minor and doesn’t affect performance at all, but worth mentioning for honesty. Overall, I couldn’t find any real cons. This device delivers serious gaming power in a comfortable handheld format. If you want a premium, powerful handheld that can handle AAA titles smoothly, this is absolutely worth it. Highly recommended.

My first *true* gaming handheld
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Okay so the title is misleading, I own both first and second Nintendo switch consoles but never a gaming console. I tried a friends Steam Deck and said meh, too bulky, my hands will fall asleep holding this beefy monster. When I found out about Xbox and Asus teaming up, I was curious. Said well, let me try it, if it’s not for me, I’ll return it. Much to my surprise, this device is light, comfortable, feels good in the hands, and with it running native Windows OS, allows you to download Steam, Battle.net, EA, Epic, and other game clients. Plus with it being a mini windows PC, a powerful one at that, combine it with a docking station and you’ve got the perfect setup for gaming at home and on the go! The customization options are near limitless. If you’re on the fence between this and the cheaper model, buy what you can afford, but if you can afford this model, it’s worth it, I promise.

Feels like a beta product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a powerful, expensive handheld that feels unfinished. Do you want to help Microsoft beta test its next handheld? Then pay $1000 for this device! The Xbox Full Screen Experience has promise but is does not integrate well with the rest of the device. For example, when you first set up the device, you have to update Windows 11 (of which it runs a full copy), the Xbox app, and Asus' Armory Crate app. All are in different locations and have different update processes. The Xbox FSE works with games from Steam, Epic, GOG, and others, but each game service needs to be installed separately--and each app and all their games updated independently of the rest of the device. Performance: the performance is good for a handheld. I played Horizon: Forbidden West, Cyberpunk 2077, The Outer Worlds 2, and other recent AAA games at 40+ FPS. BUT as with all handheld gaming devices, you will always trade off performance with battery life. The battery lasts less than 2 hours when playing graphics-intensive games (which require a higher power setting for decent FPS), but it can last several hours when playing Silksong or other games with lower graphic requirements (and the device set on the most efficient power mode). Miscellania: - The biggest weakness is the screen. This is not a small device but the screen is only 7 inches. Text on some games is very hard to read. The Switch 2 has a larger screen and it is half the price. - The device is big but very comfy. The Xbox-style handles make it easy to hold for long stretches despite the device's weight. - Connections are good--USB-C, bluetooth, wifi, sd card slot, etc. - Speakers are loud and clear for being small. - Secondary buttons are oddly placed. The ROG and Xbox buttons are tucked under the left joystick and are hard to reach. Similarly, the menu button on the right side is behind the joystick and hard to reach.
