I've had it over 3 weeks now and fully enjoying it, being able to play PC games on the go is a game changer. The speakers are loud and the screen size is decent.

Amazing, but flawed. Should get better over time.

So, this is actually the 2nd time I bought this device. The first was directly from Asus. I had returned that one. This is not a Switch device or even a Steam deck. Those are much easier to use and provide an out of box more streamlined experience. However, they both also have less overall functionality than this device. For example, a Steam deck can play only Steam games, while this device can play Steam games, Windows games, Epic games etc. You are getting the full version of Windows 11 here including all the pros and cons that come along with that. This device is almost Microsoft's first test into a console like UI with the Xbox experience. It's a good start, but the important thing to remember is that it's a start. This is not a mature experience. If you buy this now you are essentially helping them test it. But once you get your settings setup correctly it starts to get better. I now have mine setup that it goes to hibernate when pressing the power button. It never accidentally boots up, and it holds battery charge in this mode. My game boots up from this mode just fine and I can enjoy quality gaming while on my work lunch break. Performance has been overall good. Games like Power wash Simulator run at 60 FPS using the 17w power mode. Other games like Robocop I switched to 25w mode and was getting 60 FPS with AMD upscaling. The value of this device goes even higher if you have PC game pass or Game Pass Ultimate. The 3 things I think this does better than any other handheld on the market is as follows. It's extremely comfortable to hold. Unlike the Switch there is no need to buy extra grips. Because it's also got a smaller screen the weight not to heavy either. The second is that it's surprisingly quiet. I had a Lenovo Go S with Steam installed and the fan was annoyingly loud. With this I barely notice it. It's not as quiet as a Switch but it won't be annoying you. The last is the speakers. They are extremely loud and clear. They face you and I'm surprised how loud they are even on a lowered setting. End of day keep in mind you are getting a full PC here. You can boot into desktop mode and even dock it. Almost anything that can be installed on Windows can be installed here. There may be some compatibility issues due to the chipset, but it's something to keep in mind for the price and what you are getting. You can't really compare the price of the Switch 2 to this as the Switch does not have a full computer operating system built in.

I mainly got this for the Xbox controller grips because that’s what I am used to playing on. I gotta say I love it even though it’s a bit heavier than a steam deck. It doesn’t feel bad at all with the grips. Plus I’m a sucker for the thumb stick placements. The system itself updates a lot out of the box and you have to update from three different places, but I’ve gotten used to it.

The ROG Xbox Ally X takes the crown as the best PC gaming handheld you can buy, and it rightly should given that gargantuan $999 price tag. The ergonomics are stellar, the performance uplift is pronounced (especially at lower wattages), and that means power efficiency has improved by quite the amount too. If you’re serious about your gaming on the go, this is a great option.

Ok, so they updated the description since I bought it, but this isn't what it appears to be. I thought I was getting a portable X-Box Console and could play all my favorite games on the road. Ohhh Nooo, its this not that, this is a windows 11 computer running the xbox application, which means all classic titles and backwards compatibility is gone. Sorry no portals or other older games on this one. Also, most new titles require internet connection to play, those that do not require the Microsoft Cloud to save your progress, so don't think your going to playing Assassin's Creed on that 8 hour flight to EU, or if you are, forget about saving your progress. If you're still reading, don't get me wrong, if you need a portable XBOX this is it. With a port or even a USB-C to HDMI cable, this can turn into a travel version to use where you have Internet access and access to a larger tv or monitor. It's 5 ghz WiFI works great a mobile hotspots. I've even got it to connect to an older Xbox X Controller and hooked it up to 40 inch TV for larger experience. Note: both Firmware and Windows UPDATES are a must. Glitches other have reported are solved by these or at least greatly reduced in either frequency or annoyance factor. This comes with a Game Pass Subscription, which I already had a better version, but still very nice. Since it's windows 11, it pairs nicely with any bluetooth enabled headphones, although others have heard the sounds if the volume is too high even with good headphones. ASUS made firmware and other ROG Xbox Ally X features configurable with their own app and a quick short cut to get to common features. The screen is small and does catch the glare from sun and lights so finding the right location to game is key. I've used it with hotspots, free wifi, no internet both in solo and dock configurations. until I upgraded firmware, sometime had trouble with xbox not responding to controller (either built in or external), so far firmware and windows updates resolved the problem. One problem is when switching to external controller, games like Call of Duty and others, try to change to Mouse and keyboard configurations, so had to change them back to a controller with a blue tooth mouse in the game settings not device settings. Probably recommend a bluetooth keyboard as well if you want to use video streaming or other windows apps, but be careful, the more you load windows apps the more risk and less hard drive space you have for gaming. Pricey, but if you find yourself waiting hours for family members, or traveling a lot and missing your xbox, then this is device for you.

I use this about every single day due to me being busy with college full time and let me tell you in between classes, chilling during lunch or even better chilling in your dorm this is the device! I am always wanting to play when I can and this satisfies my itch perfectly. Yes it is expensive but you’re getting a good system with even better performance on the go. I do recommend for the gamer who wants to play a tad more demanding games.

It feels and plays like an xbox controller with a screen in the middle. Super comfortable, the weight doesnt bother me. But it is definitely buggy at times. Software crashes on more intense games, so you will need to configure the settings accordingly. When swapping between games, the process is still pretty clunky. The whole handheld is saved by the flexibility it provides no matter what. It’s almost as powerful as a mid range PC, but has the ability to be docked to an external GPU to run just like a high end PC. Overall, im very happy with the purchase, just need microsoft to fine tune a few things to make the user interface smoother.

Runs great. Love the performance. Wish more xbox games were "play anywhere titles". Out of my 100+ owned games, only Hollow Knight, Silksong, and Mortal Kombat 11.... love my portable emulator and steam machine though!

This hard case fits the ROG Ally perfectly and offers great protection. The exterior feels sturdy and durable, and the interior is well-padded to keep the device safe during travel. I really like the 2-in-1 design, which makes it convenient to use both at home and on the go. There’s enough room for accessories like cables and small items without feeling bulky. The zipper is smooth and the overall quality feels premium. If you own a ROG Ally, this case is definitely worth getting for peace of mind.
