Awesome soundtrack, but don't expect original song
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you like the Star Wars story Rogue One, then this is an awesome soundtrack to own! However, for someone expecting the original main themes this will be a surprise because they're not in the movie! While there are hints of things like Darth Vader's theme (or the Imperial March), the movie is a Star Wars 'story' so it relies on its own set of music ..although similar and in with much of the same feel as the saga. Nonetheless, it is some great music and definitely a must for any Star Wars collection!

Rogue One soundtrack is one of a kind
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Rogue One soundtrack does fairly well in sounding a lot like John Williams Star Wars soundtracks. This movie does a lot to carry the beginnings of Star Wars and matches to the other movies in the series. No matter what movie or movie soundtrack, it is very enjoyable listening.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Soundtrack
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The composer brought more Star Wars music into the John Williams Star Wars movies. There is a bit of a difference but it is very enjoyable to listen to.

Great Music. Well Worth Your Time.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first time I watched the movie, I didn't really care for the soundtrack. However, having seen the movie again, I think the soundtrack perfectly fits the film. Giacchino did a good job of creating music that "sounds" like Star Wars, but still sounds distinct from John Williams. In addition, woven throughout the score are musical themes from the original trilogy, which are mostly effective. That being said, there are probably not any original iconic musical themes that will become staples of pop culture (such as the Imperial March, or Binary Sunset from the original trilogy). Still, the musical themes of "Krennic" (first heard in "He's Here for Us"), "Jyn Erso", and the "Guardians of Whills" are wonderful additions to the Star Wars musical repertoire. Whereas John Williams' music fits the original Star Wars saga because those movies emphasize triumphant heroism, I find the music from Rogue One to be much more emotionally moving and dark. Considering how the movie concludes, I think this was the perfect choice. "Your Father Would be Proud" brings a tear to my eye every time I listen

A great sound for Star Wars.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lets face it, composer Giacchino had a monumentally difficult task. Writing music for a STAR WARS film and doing so in the shadow of the 7 such compositions written and conducted by that brilliant wizard of sound named John Williams. There would be so many pitfalls to avoid and Giacchino's soars above them and elevated this side story of the main Saga. It avoids being derivative of Williams while intelligently referencing him when appropriate. It has a general flavor of Giacchino's work that you cant help hear but you are so easily lost in the immersive sound and precise instrumentation. The over all effect is a Star Wars score that will play well with the others and yet easily draw your mind back to that unique story, images, and experience of Rouge One. We are living in great times. We have more Star Wars than we ever expected and know what to do with. I know what to do with this music. Play it again, and again. Bravo to Giacchino for this memorable and moving work.

Worthy of a Star Wars Soundtrack
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of the defining aspects of a motion picture is often its musical score, and this holds very true to the Star Wars films. This is the first Star Wars soundtrack not to be helmed by John Williams (with the exception of Joel McNeely's excellent "Shadows of the Empire"), however Michael Giacchino seems to have accepted the challenge of following in his footsteps and has passed the test. Of course there are sprinklings of Williams' music mixed within, but those moments generally play on the nostalgic factors within the film. As with McNeely, it's more supporting evidence that great Star Wars music will still go on even after Williams retires.

Good Star Wars soundtrack
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, this is a pretty good soundtrack, especially since I heard that Michael Giachino did not have very much time to do the score as he replaced the original composer. It is also inevitable that he is going to be compared to John Williams's previous SW scores and that invites harsh criticism since John is a master at scoring films. That being said, I enjoyed this soundtrack as a first step forward to a new SW music experience. Jyn Erso's theme is my favorite of the new themes but my two favorite tracks are "Your Father Would Be Proud" and "Hope", especially because of what happens in the movie during that sequence. No spoilers here! I take one star away because I do feel the score would have been better if Michael had more time to work on it. Then again, it would be difficult to live up to John Williams's legacy with his SW scores. That is a tall order for any composer.

Star Wars Music without John Williams? Yes!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a fan of Rogue One the film, I also appreciated the music behind it. Michael Giacchino did an excellent job of capturing the John Williams essence. That's not to say that he didn't need to borrow some bits and pieces here and there for him to point back to some of the recognizable aspects of the film's characters. However, just like Joel McNeely before him with his "Shadows of the Empire" soundtrack, it can be said that the music for the franchise is still in good hands even if Mr. Williams is not there to create his masterpieces.

The ubiquitous Michael Giacchino delivers again
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Mr. Giacchino writes good movie scores of his own - but he also has made quite a name for himself writing new film music for existing series with well established musical traditions. Take for example his work on the new Star Trek reboot, and the recent Jurassic Park films. Like Rogue One itself Mr Giacchino weaves established tunes from Star Wars into new material for the new story being told in Rogue One. Also check for Michael's trademark puns on the track titles - they're not on the sleeve - but the are on the CD.

Not Giacchino's best, but solid Star Wars
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Michael Giacchino is one of my favorite composers working today from his work on Lost, reboot Star Trek, The Incredibles, Speed Racer, and plenty of others. The Rogue One score isn't my favorite, but it does have some great moments featuring new themes that fit seamlessly into the Star Wars universe, and it cleverly incorporates classic motifs when appropriate. Rogue One makes a good case that when John Williams can no longer produce music for the Skywalker Saga, Giacchino is probably the best choice as an heir.

Excellent music with only one minor complaint
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own all eight of the previous movies' soundtracks (including The Clone Wars), and I had to get this one as well. Of course, it didn't disappoint. Even though this is the first live action Star Wars movie without John Williams as the composer, the music was still top notch! I was also glad that there were a few pieces that included the recognizable Star Wars themes. My only complaint about this album was that the end credits theme wasn't included, as it had been in all the other Star Wars soundtracks.

A Star Wars soundtrack that delivers!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The album doesn't play it safe for those familiar with the Star Wars original tracks. Everytime you hear a familiar melody it quickly turns into a swirve. Admittedly feels uncomfortable at first because you know how certain themes sound, but the fresh sense of both quick arrangements and urgency captures the moments from the film when hope presents itself in the most darkest moments. This soundtrack stand out from most Star Wars Albums. I would put this album next to Empire Strikes Back album easily!

Out of this galaxy soundtrack!
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved the movie Rigue One, and consider it as possibly the best of the Star Wars saga ..so it’s no wonder I love this soundtrack. Great scores, and I live the subtle reminders of the Star Wars original music throughout the songs. If you are a fan of Star Wars music, this is a great CD to have...

A great soundtrack!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a fitting soundtrack to perhaps the best Star Wars film -- so far! The soundtrack perfectly matches the mood of the movie. It was a gutsy move to not hire Williams as composer for this stand alone film but the risk proved to be successful! This particular soundtrack fits seamlessly with the other great SW soundtracks!

Force Is Strong With This One...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had some Best Buy bucks to spend and it was between this and the La La Land Soundtrack. The La La Land CD case had a crack in it, so I went with Rogue One. I'm glad I did! My vehicle stereo is not the best for listening to orchestral music with, but I think I will like this more than The Force Awakens soundtrack. The Imperial Suite is great. It brings to mind original trilogy Williams and maybe even a little Batman 1989 era Elfman. The end title piece is very beautiful, which I believe is track 19.

Good Score
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first Star Wars feature film to not have music composed by John Williams. However, Giacchino steps up to the plate and bats a home run. He is one composer who can definitely follow in the footsteps of Williams. Purposefully different, it's still a rousing adventurous thematic score worthy to be within the Star Wars canon.

Not better or worse that JW, different.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If anyone can compose film music in the same league as John Williams, it's Michael Giacchino, who scored the new Star Trek films. Like JW, MG loves the sound of a large orchestra. His familiarity with outer-space science fiction makes this a perfect fit for a Star Wars film. I still hope JW scores episodes VIII and IX.

Continues tradition of great Star Wars music
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a little nervous that John Williams wasn't composing the music for Rogue One. But the music fit the story really well, and it was complementary that a different composer produced the music for this "different" Star Wars movie. Also nice to hear similar strains of John Williams score throughout this.

Great Score!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you expecting John Williams, you will be disappointed this is not a John Williams score. If you are a fan of Michael Giacchino you will enjoy this score,he does a fine job an even managed to mix in a little John Williams here and there which gives you a old vs new approach which works perfectly together!

The New Hope starts here
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Considering this is the first Star Wars related soundtrack to not have John WIlliams involved, I was really impressed with the quality of this score. Michael Giacchino took some cues from the classic movies and manages to keep the tone so that Rouge One fits seamlessly into the Star Wars universe
