Best steaming device

I have had the original Roku and Roku 2 so this was an upgrade. With the huge catalog of available apps or channels and the faster processor this is the best bargain on the market.

Lately, many file I find on line are x265 and my old, reliable WD TV Live was not able to reproduce them, though it plays everything else. I got tired of waiting for WDTV to come up with an update that satisfied my needs and started looking for something better. Found Roku 4. It plays this latest format and bought it right away. PROS: Nice interface. Fast response to commands. Has many streaming options. Plays x265 files. CONS It does NOT play many of the other very common file formats. No OFF button. Neither in the unit, nor in the remote!!!! If you want to turn it off, you must reach back an unplug it! So, basically I need to have 2 streaming devices. The Roku for x265 files and the WDTV Live for everything else. Note this is an "early review". As I use the unit more and after Roku releases more updates (so I hope) I intend to post updates.

TV without Cable Connections.

We have a main whole house box and use Rokus to connect five other TVs without any cable connections. The only reason I give it a 4 and not a five is that you have to access channels via the guide. You can not enter a channel number for direct access.

I bought it so that my wife and I would have access to all the excellent British series on the ACORN network. Now I just have to talk my wife into stop watching all of the American Idol-type shows so that we can enjoy the Roku. A great investment!

Get Netflix for $9.95 a month, they have great programs and movies available.
