Very Nice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tried the Amazon FireTV2, returned it yesterday and got my Roku-4 today. Don’t currently have a 4K TV, so I can’t speak to anything regarding that. The Roku-4 looks great on my 1080 TV. My previous, and only, streaming box was a Roku-3. My primary reasons for getting one was for wireless audio and Plex. To a lesser extent, Amazon Video, Netflix, Hulu, Showtime, USTVnow, and SlingTV. Everything worked well on my Roku-3 except for the wireless audio. The audio track constantly would begin stuttering, become impossible to decipher and the only solution was to take the batteries out of the remote to reboot it. Roku support sent 2 replacement remotes, but nothing changed. Ultimately they told me this was due to the Roku-3 utilizing WiFi for audio and the 2.4GHz band often being so crowded as to cause interference. The Roku product support forum has numerous posts from users experiencing the same issue. This would usually occur about 3 times per hour. So far with the Roku-4, I’ve listened to video wirelessly for an hour each with Plex, Amazon, and Netflix. No stuttering at all — a consistent and clear wireless-audio experience. I’m assuming that’s due to audio now going over a less crowded 5GHz WiFi band. At first I thought the sound was lacking bass, but after switching the earbud tips out to the next larger size, that was resolved. Was hoping as the Roku-4 has Bluetooth, I’d have the option of listening that way. There’s no setting for it, and a quick support chat later, I found out it’s not an option now, nor is it planned for a future firmware update. I ran into an identical issue with the Roku-4 that I experienced with the FireTV2 regarding 5GHz connectivity. The hours of support calls I spent with the FTV2 saved me a lot of time with the R4. Most dual-band 2.4GHz/5GHz routers are preconfigured to automatically select the clearest available 5GHz channel. It’s a known issue with the FTV2 that if the router is set to automatic and providing a channel numbered 100 or higher, the box wouldn’t see it and only show the 2.4GHz SSID in the list of connections. Amazon support instructed me to turn auto-select off and manually set the channel to 36, 40, 44, or 48. Same thing happened with my Roku-4. During initial setup, it only displayed my 2.4GHz band SSID. The same fix for the FTV2 worked for the R4. I much prefer that Amazon Video is now tucked away in an app, and not dominating what displays on the home screen. Overall, the Roku-4 is pretty much identical in use for me as the Roku-3, except the wireless audio now appears to work flawlessly. If it had Bluetooth audio, I’d consider it a 5-Star product.

Not much 4K content
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The resolution changes whenever the power goes out on the unit when hooked up to a video matrix switch. I'm sure it's fine when hooked up to a 4K tv directly.

Excellent Set Top Box - Best IMO on the Market
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was hesitant at first to buy an upgrade from my existing ROKU 3 Player, but went ahead this past weekend and bought the new ROKU 4. Wow, I was simply amazed when I put this together at home. First, using your ID with ROKU, it automatically downloaded all your previous apps I had on my ROKU 3, (mentioning this because others in its class don't do this), which was a huge time saver. Then I started with the Premium Apps, checking out the quality of the visual experience. I have to give this a full thumbs up, it met all my expectations and beyond. The quality this device can stream to your HDTV or UHD TV is amazingly beautiful. It auto scales up on all the Premium apps, plus even the free apps. One piece of advice though, do not store it while it is running in a very tight non-vented area. It tends to run very hot underneath and I certainly wouldn't want to burn this beast component's up in the inside. I would even consider a small PC like fan near it, or in the area where you store other devices like it, best to be safe than sorry later on down in time. This is definitely a must have for those who want the best of streaming movies and TV shows in higher quality HD and UHD. It really does the job, either a true 1080P (Unlike others say), and a very close to (If not perfect) UHD - 4K.. In my opinion, far superior than any other set top streaming HD to TV device out there! Lots of content as well to chose from, as this can be considered a true chord cutting device! Thanks Best Buy for your recommendations.

Very Buggy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had lots of problems working with my 4K TV. It would also power down and not power back up. Go with the newer Roku Premieres or Ultras

A lie. Don't buy.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is a piece of junk. Half of the apps don't stream in 4k because of some sort of copy protection not yet worked out. What I was able to get to stream was only in HD. What's the point? They released this project half baked and way too early. Even if firmware updates fix it...why release the production before it was functional?

Amazing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had a couple of different streaming devices. (Roku 3, fire stick and chrome cast) and nothing can even compare to this monster! It is extremely fast and easy to use! No lagging, no fuss, smooth! A lot of free content!! Always have something to watch. The 4k content is incredible as well and I absolutely love being able to mirror from my phone to the TV as well as the headphone feature. Don't think it twice! Truly worth it.

being a 3rd party streamer has its advantages
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.since roku is their own company there are no "issues" as far as what apps they will support unlike some offerings from Amazon and Google, which means a very easy to use as well as useful standalone streaming device. Only gripe I have which is not really significant is that even in idle is has a very faint buzz from the unit but you have to sitting next to it. No louder than anything else you might find in your setup either.

Beware of Roku's Customer Service
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As soon as you try and register you the product they ask for CREDIT CARD NUMBER.When I called Customer Service after waiting about 30 minutes. Sounds like overseas, they never greeted me just told me not to worry just give me your CREDIT CARD NUMBER. I just had a general question why do you need my CC#? I will not be purchasing anything just streaming. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Roku device started acting up after two months. It's completely useless after three. Attempted to return the device to the retailer like the Roku site recommended with no luck. Called the customer service line where I could not understand most of what the person said. Bottom line it's been a waist of time and money. Just purchased a Fire Stick to replace it.

flawed design with a fan, get a roku ultra instead
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had an older Roku (N1000), and was happy to see an optical audio on the Roku, but after I realized that the Roku 4 design had added a fan (horrible idea, since this introduces a wear part and noise), I returned this item, and I'm waiting for the Roku Ultra (improved design, without a fan, as it should be) to go on sale.

Overall, this is a great product!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded from the Roku 3 to the Roku 4 and I'm very happy with the purchase. I purchased mine in store at the Fairlakes, VA location and so far I've not noticed any of the loud fan issues that others reported when purchasing on Amazon. In fact the device has been completely silent for the past 5 days I've owned it. I love being able to add any channel I want to it, and I love that it just works...no fuss, no muss. I have it connected via AC wireless to my 5Ghz wifi router and HDMI to my Sony Bravia TV and have had ZERO issues to date. I have not tried the 4K features as my TV doesn't support 4K, but so far all streaming picture quality at 1080p has been astounding! My only gripes are trivial, but they are: remote controller surface is too glossy so it's constantly marred with fingerprints and pet hairs are attracted to it and stick to it easily. Batteries in remote (Duracell AA's) don't last very long. No way of turning off the device unless you physically remove power to it.

Very Fast,Nice features,Not perfect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I do like this Roku. I also have the 2&3 version. It does get warm but the Auto off feature is nice when its not in use. I do not hear any fan as is stated by other people. I have had it three days and have used it about six hours and I have no fan noise at all. The voice search and headphone feature as on the version 3 is awesome. The only feature that does not work properly is the audio optical out does not decode the dolby digital or dts on my receiver. I only get the older Pro Logic surround. I have changed all the options but nothing. I pick up DTS and Dolby through my Blue ray and Dolby through my Cox DVR but this will not detect it. That is one Major reason I did purchase this was to have true surround sound but I can deal with the pro logic for now. For the money this unit provides a lot. great unit so far.

Blue screen of death
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got the blue death screen after a month of use, called roku it was still under warranty but they wanted ME to pay to ship them their defective unit before they would send me a new one. Or pay 20 dollars to extend the warranty and get a free shipping label..

Very disappointed.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product was very disappointing. The Fan is So Loud!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The fan on this streamer is so loud, its very distracting. It literally sounds like a small vacuum that doesn't stop/shut off. As long as its plugged in to power the fan almost never shuts off, & when it does its for a few minutes the most. Everything else about the Roku 4 is awesome. The wifi is faster, its extremely fast, the interface is easy to navigate....but the fan ruins everything. I would pick up a Roku 3 over the 4 any day, at least til they fix the fan issue. The Roku 4 isn't a huge improvement over the 3.IN fact the Roku 3 is better in such areas as size, and being dead silent during use.The roku 4's picture is only slightly better then the 3, and overall just slightly faster.
