I recently purchased a 4K TV and had a Roku 3 prior. the picture quality is amazing and I enjoy being able to select what I want to watch when I have the time. Haven't had cable in years and I won't go back!

Roku 4 is a winner with a few exceptions

The Roku 4 is an excellent advancement compared to it's predecessors but it does still lack a few things though. The Ethernet Port will only run at 100mbps, but it really needs to have a port that carries up to 1gig, especially since this is a 4K Roku Box. The 2nd thing is once again to do with the networking part of the box, the wireless networking built-in can only do the 2.4 megahertz band, but what about the 5.0 megahertz band that is more widely available with most newer modems out there now? If they could change these 2 things, this Roku would be totally awesome!

    Better than the Roku 3

I have Roku sticks and a Roku 3. I purchased the Roku 4 due buying a 4k TV. The best thing about the Roku 4 is that it is more reliable than the Roku 3. My only complaint is how hot the Roku 4 gets.

I have a few Roku streaming sticks. We love those for their ease-of-use, but they can't be a bit sluggish. This player is snap fast and wonderful it's streaming 4K content. Well worth the price.

Not quite ready for prime time

The Roku 4 (and 3) are just not ready for real life. They "almost" work... I bought 2 Roku 3's The audio that was supposed to come thru the remote jack had momentary skips... despite a very robust fast internet connection and hours on the phone discussing the issue with a very nice man in india (who knew nothing) I returned the Roku 3's and bought 2 Roku 4's. The audio from the remote worked great but now we have new problems. On Time Warner cable the audio skips thru the TV audio on some channels (but remote control audio is fine). Some channels don't even show up at all... and the Roku4 must be unplugged to get it out of sleep mode sometimes.... argh. It has a lot more features then my Apple TV but Roku is not plug and play.... in fact the Roku has been nothing but frustration and trouble.

This product is a great addition to any 4k TV/entertainment system. The only issue I had personally was that the sound that goes through the remote to the headphones (which are optional) didn't work. This is only a minor bummer for me though as I hadn't planned on using the headphone option all that much anyway, and I'm sure it's most likely just an issue with the individual device and not with the product line as a whole. If it weren't for this minor irritation it would be getting 5 stars!

I have 2 (ROKU 2) and 2 (ROKU 3) units in my house and was excited about the ROKU 4 since it does 4k. However, I was very disappointed. I had to unplug and plug the unit back in every day. The unit would not come out of sleep or power saving mode. I waited a few weeks to see if they would release a firmware for the issue but it was never fixed. The other ROKU units have never had this issue. The unit was returned.

Roku 4 is buggy & customer service is nonexistent

I own the Roku 3 and love it but I decided to buy the Roku 4 when it came out because I have a 4K television. I'm about to take the Roku 4 back for a refund. I have had nothing but problems trying to get it to connect to my internet (it connects to the wifi without any problems). Roku customer support is absolutely horrible. Rather than admit the Roku 4 has a bug, they want to blame it on the modem I'm using, even though the Roku 3 is successfully connected and working through the same modem. Additionally, I attempted to do a voice search tonight and the button doesn't work (I've only had the unit for 3-4 days).

Remote is horrible and player glitches!

I have a Roku 3 and bought this Roku 4 really wanting to like it. However has done nothing but give me headaches. There were problems setting up the device where it would freeze and not allow me to update the player. I spent about 1.5 hours to get this set up and I thought I was ready to go. Now my remote constantly disconnects! EVERY time I do not use the remote for a few minutes it disconnects from the Roku 4. Only way to fit it is remove the batteries, let it reboot, and then I will have enough time to watch my next show, Is enough to drive a person crazy. I am considering buying a Amazon player or an apple TV after this frustration!

I have purchased ever roku device that came out. I have two roku 1, 3 roku 2, and two roku 3. I have loved all my rokus up to this one. I can not get through one day without this roku 4 freezing up, rebooting, non responsive, or just a black screen then I have to unplug it to reboot it. this was just a bad buy for me. this device has some serious problems and is a blemish on the roku brand

Great 4k + Kid Friendly Remote

I purchased this player to get access to 4k content on Netflix and Plex, but it is not the best thing about this player. The remote control is almost perfect for my young children because it offers simple navigation with easy to understand buttons, but no button overload. If you are looking for a simple player to put into a game/play room for your kids, this is the one for you!

The phone is pretty awesome for a prepaid phone , I had my doubts about it at first but so far it hasn't disappointed it will do pretty much anything that the fancy high priced cell phones will do and I haven't had any issues with dropped calls or anything like that. If your looking to drop your contracts and go prepaid. This phone is the way to go it's a Samsung .

    Roku 4, Think Again

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Here's my story and why I rate the Roku 4 a 1 star. #1 NO, power button. That's correct. There is no power button. Supposedly the Home Button should wake the Roku 4 up from sleep mode. BUT IT DOESN'T. I contacted support (see below) and got absolutely nowhere. They gave me a few suggestions like factory reset, etc., but none of the suggestions work. There are 2 ways I can wake my device up: hit the Remote Finder button or unplug/re-plug the device. After weeks of going back and forth with Roku support, I told them the device is defective because I have to unplug and re-plug the device in to wake it up. READY FOR THIS....they told me that is how it is designed. WHAT??? I don't have to unplug my TV, Receiver, DVD player, sound bar, on and on no matter how long they have been off. BUT the Roku 4 will require physical access in order to wake it up. Either it's defective or poorly designed. #2 The remote doesn't support the ability to handle any TV commands. At a minimum, add the ability to control my TV's volume. My Xfinity remote has the functionality of power & volume for my TV. Simple. And Roku likes simple, but not in all cases. How much extra processing could it be to add this to the remote? #3 Painfully long setup process for Roku channels. As mentioned, I am an Xfinity customer, so I have access to sign on to many of the network based Roku channels. As an eager new Roku customer, I grabbed any channel that seemed interesting. Was I a fool?? It took me over 3 hours to get all the 30 or 40 channels signed in and registered. And wait, to fix your inability to power on your device, reset it so you can repeat the whole thing. Come on Roku, figure out how to make this easy for the user !!!! Save my xfinity info once and apply to all the channels. Or once I spend 3 hours setting this up, save my config on your site or something. #4 Support SUCKS!! My first email to Roku support took more than 2 days to respond. The response was we'll forward this to engineering. No response for 5 days, so I ping support again. Their response was that they had no response, please wait some more. This happened yet another time, so more than 2 weeks go by and I'm still waiting for "engineering". I passed the window of time to return the device to Fry's, so I was hoping they would at least give me an RMA and send me a new one. When I told them the device is defective because I need to physically access the device to wake it up, they responded with the following statement (this is a copy/paste of their email). Idle is more than 4 hours. "The Roku 4 player is not defective. When the Roku 4 player is left idle for a long time, it should be rebooted by unplugging and replugging the power cable. The player will be able to respond to the remote after it is rebooted." I know I saw threads on the power function dating back more than a year. It's just plain stifling that you have to go and touch the device. If you think that is good engineering and you don't care about using multiple remotes and you have lots of time to get the device setup and you don't mind ineffective support staff, then this is the product for you.

I bought this to stream Atmos to my surround sound. The best app at the moment for that is Vudu, but Vudu will only stream Atmos if you have a 4k display despite paying for the 4k movie. A bit of a let down, but not Roku's fault (I think). The remote could use a bit more range. I can use the app based remote just fine, but I prefer tactile buttons.

    Frequent, Consistent, Annoying Freeze-ups

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Menuing is nice, in general the Roku is a good device. But it runs pretty hot, and it seems to freeze up after a few minutes of watching a streaming channel like YouTube: frozen screen, remote buttons non-responsive other than the "Home" button which takes me completely out of what I'm watching. This is consistent and is also consistent with a lot of reports I subsequently have found on the web while researching a fix. The Roku folks don't seem to want to take responsibility for the problem. I've tried the 5GHz wifi band as one article suggested, and even now have my Roku hard-wired to my router's ethernet port. Still the freeze-ups. I know it's the Roku because it is consistent and because my FireStick doesn't do it--on the same channels, looking at the same videos. If it weren't for this show-stopper issue, I'd give the device at least three stars. But this is my third Roku (versions 2, 3, and now 4); and each one has had issues. I'm done with them now.

The Roku interface integrates all of my favorite tv applications into one, easy to use interface. Netflix, Prime, Hulu and much more. I especially like the feature that allows you to save your favorite programming on Faverites page and refer back easily showing all the apps and new episodes that are currently playing you show.

I bought this device and connected it to my Vizio 4K tv in order to stream content from Sling, Netflix, and more. I am thrilled with how quick it responds and mostly important, the image quality. The new WiFi AC helps a lot too in buffering content quicker. Solid device and much better than Roku Express
