When it's good....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.it is fabulous, just amazing. The problem is that Roku has zero support (and BB swapped my unit only after a threat of never buying there again) and when it DOESN"T work it is almost impossible to resolve. The 4kHDR often gives an hdcp error with Netflix, a little less often with Amazon. This was fixed after some weeks of frustration trying different cables, a new amplifier, changing tv settings (also new) by working with online forums (Roku wouldn't support directly - "go to where you bought it") I discovered that changing a setting in the secret menus (yup!!) from 4:2:2 to 4:2:0 fixed the problem. Six months of peace and no more "should watching tv be this difficult?". Now Roku pushed an update and all the problems are back. They key (secret) setting is now in the standard settings and was reset to 4:2:2, so I reset it to 4:2:0, no improvement. Back to the forums and I see that I am far from alone on this issue. This device simply does NOT work well enough consistently to be usable.

Simple and easy to use!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of the most simplest and easiest streaming devices to use. Made our TV (which had a terrible OS) actually nice to use.

Great Roku!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great Roku! I love the headphone option for the remote. This model also offers 4k streaming and an option to locate the remote when it’s missing.

Not the best for DirecTV Now
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've tried mostly all the streaming TV services and the best one in my opinion is DirecTV Now, which this box doesnt do so well with. Coming from an Nvidia Shield TV which I unfortunately had to sell because theres not an offical DirecTV Now app on Android TV. I thought the Roku was the better option as Roku devices have evey single streaming app you can think of (expect the new WatchTV app coming from AT&T) But to my dismay it was not, the remote is great because of the headphone jack and for controlling your TV but this was a useless feature as the sound would cut in and out all the time The ethernet port is 10/100 for the oddest reason, why? How much more would it cost to just add a gigabit port? You guys put a useless Micro SD card slot you just couldn't future proof the device with a gigabit port? The UI is outdated, slow and clunky, but the biggest reason I had to return is the DirecTV Now app is garbage. The outdated DirecTV Now app on the Shield TV is 1000 times better. How is it that I'm connected through ethernet (gigabit speeds) but yet my app still buffers and studders? I plug in my Fire TV Stick connected through wi fi and have still yet to encounter a loading wheel. Also the app itself is just so slow, slower than a Fire TV Stick. Granted I haven't tried the other streaming apps on the device so I cant speak to their speed and stability but for anyone who has DirecTV Now this is just not the device you should get. Just some other things The remote would turn my AC on everytime I pressed the up button which was a little annoying You can buy a 3.5mm ground loop isolator to stop the interference on the remotes headphone jack If you want the best device for DirecTV Now I hear it's the Apple TV 4k and you can get one for $105 if you prepay 3 Months of DirecTV Now (it's still available as of 7/10/18). I haven't tried it yet but will do review

Do not buy for PlayStation Vue
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Determined that PlayStation Vue was service I needed for the channels I wanted. Bought Ultra. There is no channel guide for PlayStation Vue on a Roku. Returned Roku and bought Fire TV. PlayStation Vue has channel guide. I see no difference in the performance of the competing streaming units. If you want a channel guide with PlayStation Vue, do not buy a Roku unit

Its good for what it is...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have tried many streaming boxes. I would place this as average. It does 4k hdr at 60hz. However some things aren't officially supported such as Twitch for instance. If you dont care about twitch. They have 3rd party twitch called twiched or twicth zero or something along the lines and it works buts its offically from twitch. But most of your other big stuff is one their. Such as Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video and YouTube. However having to log into a account on my computer or phone to add channels is annoying. So I decided to move on. If your only interested in basic big 4 things I named off then its worth a grab it does all of those well just like any of the others do. Lack of wireless keyboard support and other applications is what makes it lack luster for my taste. Overall its great little device for someone who wants the basics and it just works.

extra charges!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just purchased the Roku - Ultra Streaming Media Player - Black from best buy in Philadelphia. When I got home and started the install of the Roku box, I got a message from the internet to contact Roku. The screen at that time said that there wouldn't be an activation charges for their product. When I got the phone call from Roku, the person on the other end said that there is a one time charge of either 139.00 or 199.00 to use their product. The Roku box is now in my basement, collecting dust!!!!!

Alot to be desired
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace a old Samsung smart blu ray players built in apps , this Roku left me wanting . colors washed out , vid details lacking . All in all poor experience , I tried emailing support , no reply , tried the Roku forums , no help they wanted to blame everything BUT the Roku . So I returned this and exchanged it for a NVidia shield TV . problem solved . The NVidia blows this thing out of the water . My advice run, run far away from Roku . Nvidia is worth the extra money

All these great features but missing one key thing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll just keep it short and sweet... you cannot install Kodi on this, no way, no how. This would be a great device for people that pay for Netflix, Hulu, or sling . I refuse pay for TV anymore so basically all this thing can do for me is mirror my devices to my TV. Well any decent TV in the last couple years can do that already...so what's the point? Will be returning tomorrow and possibly go with the Fire TV, which is cheaper anyway.

4k, HDR, ATMOS DOES NOT WORK
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased a roku ultra yesterday to replace my 4k Amazon Fire TV(2015). After setup I tried to watch 4k content with netflix, amazon prime, and VUDU. Continually had video issues with error message hdcp 2.2 unauthorized. Called customer support and had a horrible experience. I will return my Roku Ultra today and use my old AMAZON FIRE TV, which works flawlessly. My recommendation is to google Roku hdcp 2.2 unauthorized and you will see the problem with this streaming player. Per Roku customer support representative, If you do not have a 4k tv or are ok using your 4k tv to upscale 1080p this device will work without any issues. But if you want 4k content I suggest purchasing a different brand.

Great when it works
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had two of these. Took the first back when the earbuds quit working. The second one I got has the same issues and also freezes up and has to be reset every day. I loved it when it worked but it just got to be too much of a hassle. Taking it back and trying another model.

Piece of Junk -- defective, avoid
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PLayer worked great for 5 weeks then crapped out, it is a common problem if you look online at other reviews. AVOID this defective model, customer support is a joke and has no remedy. I had to put it in the trash, TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY. You have been warned.

Many technical issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to like the Roku, but it has numerous technical issues. It randomly shuts down or goes blank for no apparent reason. Amazon movie audio will often lag by as much as ten seconds. I have also had issues with the remote not working or working intermittently, apparently due to interference. The volume on the remote is awkwardly placed, and there is no input button on the remote, so I have to switch remotes to move between devices. I would not recommend this product.

Quality Control and Customer Service Problems
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is obviously a well designed product but unfortunately Roku is running into quality control (with remotes) and customer service issues. The first remote worked fine with the exception of the audio when using the earbud on the remote. The sound cut in and out. Well fine, that isn't a huge issue but as the thing cost $100 I open a support ticket. It took three days for someone to get back to me and after some back and forth I finally received a new remote 12 days later. Sounds like a happy ending but unfortunately the new remote control is more defective. It works in part but the sound on the ear buds does not work at all now. Not only that but the buttons to Netflix, Hulu etc. do not work. Pretty sure they have some serious manufacturing problems. Would not be surprised if we hear about a class action lawsuit before long. I've opened another ticket with support. They had better be more responsive or let me return the product this time or I will be the one consulting attorneys as I seriously doubt I am the only one with these problems.

Worked great at first....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked great at first, but after 5 weeks apps started having screen issues, then went to buffering every 5 seconds and then having to reset constantly. The remote won't work unless you take the batteries out and then insert them. I started a support ticket with Roku and that has been a complete disaster. Everyday then ask me to do something else instead of replacing a bad unit. The seem to want to blame the ISP, my router or any other excuse, except I have a bad Roku unit. I was out of town over the Memorial Day weekend and they closed my ticket since I hadn't responded in 5 day to their last request. It's a little hard trying their annoying steps me when I'm on vacation. Roku has zero, and I mean ZERO, customer service. Just replace my product! Spending $100 for 5 weeks of use is ridiculous.

3 players failed setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just spent several hours troubleshooting and finally returning 3 Roku Ultras. They all failed after downloading the latest firmware and rebooting. The 1st one had a flashing screen, but I was able to get through to the next menu and complete the setup. However there was no audio. Roku support agreed it was defective. The next two (from a different store) came up with a black screen after the reboot. Hitting reset button allowed me to go through the network set up menus but would then speed through the ntwk connection screen in less than a second and the screen would go black. Same connections work fine with my old Roku. Finally downgraded to Roku Sreamng Stick+ and setup worked fine.

Remote Headphone Feature
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are buying this for the headphone feature. DON'T!! It doesn't work. ROKU Forum has lots of posts about this, and ROKU doesn't seem willing to fix (Most likely firmware issue). The Streaming features work fine.

Roku is a Terrible Company
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Four months past the warrantee, my Roku stopped working. I called tech support at Roku, and received incorrect advice. I called back and received different answer. I called back to ask a question, and received a third answer. All 3 solutions did not correct the problem. Besides that, the customer service people were extremely rude. Would never buy a Roku device again.
