Ultimately this product does it's job, however the software provided via CD is a bit dated. Overall happy with it but there is certainly room for improvement, my computer initially flagged it as a security risk.

I attempted to load software on my laptop (from disk and then from website) and wouldn't work. Operating system, Windows 11 Home, version 22H2. Recieved driver errors. Tried downloading patch from Roxio and it didn't recognize it. After restart, my laptop crashed and wouldn't start up properly. Had to perform system restore for proper restart. I wouldn't recommend for Windows 11 users, it shouldn't be this complicated.

It successfully converted my old Goosebumps VHS to DVD, but the entire movie had to be watches and recorded. So each mlvie takes as long as the movie is.

Not compatible with Win11 and has ZERO updates available. Included software is extremely basic. When i went to set it up, when the registration screen came up, it was already filled with someone elses info, which means i was probably sold a return. I didn't realize i only had a 2 week return window, and by the time i had a chance to use it and was struggling, it was one day past returnable. Thankfully, I still have a fully functional Win10 laptop that it works fine on. Other than having to wait the full length of a movie in order to capture, therefore burning lots of time, it does the job.

Installation was a chore. Then, after using it for several tapes it quit working. The replacement that I got did the same thing. This time, I disconnected and reconnected it, and has been working fine. After finally getting it working properly it produces excellent digital recordings.. as good as the vcr tapes will permit. Without the start up problems, I would have given it 5 stars.

This product tends to work pretty well, though I have had a few issues w/them over the years, namely: The authorization string sometimes only gives you the 'non-plus' version, unlike the package says; the external capture hardware (card?) can get very warm/hot and I've sometimes had to shut the system down for a little while (~30 minutes or so usually works) to get it to cool down and work again, though I suppose unplugging its external hardware from the USB port might work just as well; getting support via their customer support phone line seems to be somewhat arduous, at least since they were bought by Corel, though the last time I called they did eventually get back to me and follow up. Also, just FYI, if the hardware (USB capture card) dies, you'll have to get a whole new package, software and all, as they don't sell just the external capture device/hardware separately...or so they told me. This was problematic for me, as I've had a few of the external devices go bad over the years, due to power surges (I suspect) and it's most annoying to have to keep paying full price to buy a whole new package each time when I don't need the software again. All that aside, when it works, it's pretty good.

I purchased this to back up old home movies to blu ray. I had a rough start. First it didn’t occur to me there was a CD installation & my laptop has no disc drive LOL. Fortunately I had a dinosaur laptop with a drive I no longer use & was able to save it on my external drive & move it over. I’ve been holding onto 2 VCR’s for the day I’d get around to doing this. 1 didn’t work so I was stuck with one. The software was horrible. You can record until the 20 second lag time passed. Then it finishes even though your movie is not done. I have some movies saved as part 1, 2 etc on some. Once finished there are many lines & static on some parts which are not there on the original. You also have to watch the full movie. You can’t just let it go because if there is a 20 second lag it will stop & finish. It took me a full day for 1 movie & had 7 parts from the lag times. Extremely frustrating & I considered returning it. It seemed to get worse even with me cleaning the heads a lot & eventually wasn’t worth recording. Desperate, I went back to the 1st VCR & cleaned it good & a lot of the issues went away. Then I couldn’t say if it was the software or the VCR so keep that in mind if you purchase this. I’m rating this a 4 because this is 2023 & most laptops don’t have drives. This needs to modernize & put a code to download it online or use a flash drive to download it. Overall, I sent blu rays to some of my relatives & they really love them.

Good product, but really needs a setup manual and some user instructions for the software. I received this for Christmas, to transfer some VHS tapes to DVD format. The Roxio instructions say plug the device in and follow the instructions. Well, you get nothing when you plug it in, and there were some minor issues installing the software. I had some difficulty getting the VHS connections right, and there is no help for that process. Also, the software is not intuitive, and I had a few miss-starts and hiccups. It took about 2.5 hours to record and burn my first 44 minute VHS tape, including setup. I marked it down one star because I believe it needs some user instructions, but the finished quality was good, when played on my 4K DVD player and that is what really counts.

This item was easy to set-up and use. I haven't used it for burning DVD's, but for transferring VHS to my computer, and then to my external Hard Drive. You can purchase a 1-4 Terabytes external hard drive, and plug into your computer, and it will hold a lot of videos.
I taped many sports games and matches throughout the time I had a VHS recorder, and amassed a couple of hundred tapes. I have transferred so far 80 sports shows, plus many home videos of the family and vacations. Many of the videos are 2-4 hours long. After all of this, the 4 terabyte hard drive is only 1/4 full. This allowed me to create space, by getting rid of all of these VHS tapes. Can't comment on burning DVD's, because I haven't tried it. Just went totally digital. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, is because I don't know if it has the ability to allow for editing and cutting out parts of the videos that is not needed, or if it has that ability and I just can't figure it out. Nothing is mentioned about it in the instructions that come with it. It does have an editing section, but not exactly this function, as far as I can see. It serves its purpose of transferring tapes to digital or DVD's.

This adapter is great for converting VHS tapes to dvd. Just install the software and follow the instructions, wallah.
fyi - you'll need a VHS player and a dvd burner.
I knocked off a star because it's not compatible with mac's. This would be perfect if it were universal.

My wife had video on VHS that she wanted on DVD. I told her I would have in in few hours. I went to Best Buy and bought the package in the store. I loaded the software that came with it on my desktop PC, plugged in the USB doggle device in the box and then hooked up my OLD VHA player to the inputs of the USB doggle device.
I choose to copy the VHS directly to the DVD player/writer and let it run. When I came back it was done and it worked fine in the DVD player on our TV set. Simple and easy to use!

I needed to transfer some home videos for a family member and I hadn't done this in years. I was familiar with the process overall the technology changed in the 15 years or so since I done it last. this software was intuitive and very easy to use and I was happy with the quality of the videos both on my computer, and on the DVDs I burned as collections.

This is exactly what I needed to convert some old VHS and 8mm tapes to a digital format. The product is relatively easy to use after some initial education period. I have successfully transferred over 20 VHS tapes and over 45 8mm tapes. Having a transfer company do this would have cost me over $1,000 and would not have given the flexibility to see what tapes needed to be transferred and which tapes could be ignored. I purchased this software on sale for less than $40.

For $39 bucks great deal. For installation you have to install software requires code that is printed on cd install disc sleeve. A little patience is needed to learn. took about a hour to learn the process. Make sure to get the update. Process did not work until there was a notification window saying download update. After that it was smooth process. You have to hit play on the vcr and click the record button on the pc screen at the same time to start the transfer the great part is you can rip to your hard drive then get it to google photos so you have a cloud copy. I was not interested in the editing capabilities so I won’t get into that. Wish it was more clear that program could rip to hard drive then I wouldn’t have needed to buy blank dvds which I don’t use for anything anymore

Glitchy at best.
I have a ton of videos, but only want smaller parts of them, so didn't want to pay to have them all moved to digital.
I installed this my windows 10, not my windows 11. I did this because all the earlier reviews stated it worked best on an older computer. Plus, it records in real time- if it is a 2 hour video, it will take 2 hours.
Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. NO instructions on how to use it, beyond how to plug it in. gives lots of error messages. Works best with very short videos. Ended up having to make a series of short videos, then transferring the files to a DVD manually. That doesn't save the title or the transitions, but at least i got the videos to move.
I paid the full price. Might be worth it if it is on sale, and you have a ton of patience. This seemed to be the better option than many of the others I looked at.

Don't understand all the negative reviews

I read reviews before purchasing this. After the purchase, I don't understand all the negative reviews. My best guess is that the negative reviews did not follow the instructions. First, plug in the device into your computer before downloading the software, so the computer download the drivers on its own. Second, download the software, either from the CD or from the website. Third, open up the software to let it find any updates, and let it install the updates. Now plug your VCR into your computer with your device to transfer. If you follow those instructions exactly, it work. My next best guess for the complaints is that people expected this device to turn their old home videos intro crystal clear, pixel perfect 1080p videos. That simply isn't going to happen. Your 80s, 90s or even early 2000s videotape recorder did not have those capabilities, so it would not have recorded that in the first place. Furthermore, if the videotapes have corroded over time, or even the VCR for that matter, that will affect the transfer, not the device itself. If a VHS to DVD upscaler does exist, you'll be paying way much more. My only real complaint is that the editing software is mediocre at best, but you can always purchase a better video software on your own. This sure beats paying somebody to convert your VHS for you.

The Best Option Out There For Modernizing VHS

This product is great, and I think it’s the best option available for bringing VHS tapes back to life. The software is easy to use, very inuitive. The product is easy to use, just plug it into the correct cables and it connects to the computer. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5, is because of a small glitch I encounter every time I record the tape. When there is a period of static between footages, the product captures a short time of black and white footage before switching back to color. This is quite annoying. Otherwise, great product and would recommend to others.

Yeah, it works. It works well -- but it isn't that easy at first. Installation is a bit "iffy" since one must have a video source attached. Once installed the learning curve isn't too big of a deal and the results of just what was expected. It does "run hot" so I don't leave it plugged into my USB port when not in use. Yes, I'd recommend this software/hardware combo.
