Not a great purchase

Thank you for your review of this Samsung HW-R550 Soundbar. I am very sorry that you are not completely happy with the audio performance of the subwoofer.
There are two adjustments that can be made to maximize the potential of the included wireless subwoofer. First, is to increase the WOOFER level from the included remote control. Second is to adjust the bass control: Press the Sound Control button (gear icon) on the remote control, then select BASS to increase the level.
Finally, for precise audio adjustments, you can use the 7-band frequency equalizer to optimize for your room acoustics.

Not worth it

Easy to set up but sound clarity was terrible. I ended up disconnecting and sticking with the TV speakers. Going to try the soundbar in a different room and TV. My daughter happened to purchase same soundbar and took it back after hearing mine.

Thank you for sharing your review of the Samsung HW-R550. I am sorry to see that you are not completely happy with sound clarity.
You can try optimizing audio performance for your specific content by pressing the SOUND MODE button on your soundbar remote, and then selecting the desired sound effect by choosing STANDARD, SURROUND SOUND, GAME, or SMART.
You can also press the Sound Control button on the remote (looks like a gear) to adjust TREBLE and BASS.
Press and hold the Sound Control button for about 5 seconds to adjust the sound for each of seven frequency bands.
Using the WOOFER button on the remote, you can adjust the volume of the subwoofer between -6 to +6 by toggling the button up or down. To set the subwoofer volume level to 0, press the button down.
Also, please check that the soundbar is correctly positioned with the SAMSUNG logo facing up towards the ceiling. We have found that many customers are misplacing the soundbar with the SAMSUNG logo perpendicular to the floor (facing you when seated), with the unit resting on the speakers, resulting in muffled sound.

Total waste of money

Disconnected this item and feel as though it was a total waste of money. Returned to the store several times, but failed to get adequate instructions to make it work. Very upset and feel we were taken.

Stay away

Lost connection and unable to connect to my tv or any other device. Tried almost everything to fix it and no luck. Do. Not. Buy. I’m saying this as a Samsung fanboy.

A nice accessory for a Samsung TV

The sound quality is sharp with nice rich tones and the bass is nice and deep. Set up was a breeze with an optical cable and hdmi, the subwoofer is bluetooth and connected right away. Being a Samsung means you can use one remote to control the volume and it connects when the tv is turned on/off. You can also use the bluetooth to play tunes from your smartphone. Overall a great audio addition to a Samsung TV,

I am very sorry to hear that you are experiencing a distortion in dialogue.
To improve your experience, try using Dynamic Range Control (DRC). DRC lets you apply dynamic range control to Dolby Digital tracks. With DRC turned on, loud sounds will be reduced.
Turn off your Soundbar. While the Soundbar is off, press and hold the Sound Mode button on the remote control for 6 seconds until you see “DRC ON” shown on the display.
To turn off DRC, repeat steps 1 and 2 above.
You can also try optimizing audio performance for your specific content by pressing the SOUND MODE button on your soundbar remote, and then selecting the desired sound effect by choosing STANDARD, SURROUND SOUND, GAME, or SMART.

Poor quality or its really broken I cant tell. It has a rattling sound. A few days after I purchased it the store closed because of the coronavirus. So now I am stuck with it.

To optimize your audio experience, please try the various sound modes this model offers. Press the SOUND MODE button on your remote, and then select your desired sound effect: STANDARD, SURROUND SOUND, GAME, or SMART.
You can further adjust TREBLE and BASS via the SOUND CONTROL button (looks like a gear symbol).
The subwoofer is responsible for low frequency sounds, like the rumbles of an explosion in an action movie or the bass guitar and drum in your favorite music. It adds rich bass tones and deepens the sound quality you hear, but since the subwoofer only plays low tones, it will be silent when low frequency sounds are not in use. If you'd like louder (or softer) bass from your subwoofer, you can adjust the level by toggling the WOOFER button on the soundbar remote, and then adjusting the level from -6 to +6.

No good for theater sound

Good Overall Sound Bar System

I bought a 65” Samsung QLED 7FN two days ago and decided to put a sound bar on it. After trying last year’s model 450N soundbar that I bought Open-Box - but was unable to successfully get the woofer to synchronize with the soundbar - I decided to try a brand-new version of this model, the 550R. This one synced up immediately, and sounds very good! Yes, there is a difference from the $400-600 and up 5.1 versions and this one, but this 2.1 works just fine for me and the sound is all that I need. I can hear booming bass if I want to, or turn it down a little and simply enjoy a stellar tv and movie sound experience. Well recommended, no volume shifts or anything of the sort.
