    Do Not Buy Samsung Refrigerators

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We all read the great Consumer Reports reviews...but the truth is different. They are not built to last. Talk to an owner that has had it ONE YEAR. I am probably the first person to mention issues with you. 1. ICE MAKER. Some people complain about the ice maker which can break and has limited capacity on many models. I have not had any problems with mine. However, it makes ice with bubbles. Ice with air bubbles in it melts too fast. I prefer the blue ice from my other refrigerators that lasts longer and has bigger capacity. 2. FREEZE UP PROBLEM. This is major. It is a known common problem that Samsung has not fixed and won't recognize as a product defect. The condenser freezes up obstructing fan causing the fan to break. This problem can be caused by either a faulty sensor unit, control panel, and/or fan breakage. SAMSUNG WILL NOT HELP USERS FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX THIS ISSUE. The cost of repair is often $600 and replacement of the unit is recommended by a major repace company because the problem comes back!!! 3. Samsung has poor customer service and a short 1 year limited warranty. 4. HOW TO FIX/REPAIR FREEZE UP: This is for Techs-- secrets that Samsung won't tell consumers, but it will get your refrigerator working again. Hold down freezer and light buttons for 10 seconds until all lights go out. Push freezer button again, cycling through to “Fd”. This is forced defrost. Ok to leave stuff in freezer but best to empty fridge and leave doors open to get rid of ice build up, Is it cool to have to do this every month or two? NO!! After we spend $2,000 to $3,000, we should get a fridge that works. Some videos on YouTube help, 5. Other issues, Open door sound is hard to hear and doesn’t work. Doors must be pushed shut. Cheap plastic interior can’t be disassembled to access freeze up problem. Pinch clips in center by water filter..... but I’d break plastic if I did that. I have been a Best Buy Elite member spending $15,000 to $20,000 at Best Buy. I wish Best Buy would screen products they sell more carefully. I have had more problems with Samsung items than any other brand. The Samsung HDTVs I have bought worked great but were never finished, items were missing from menus and instruction manuals, same problem with Samsung refrigerators. Obvious and serious problems are not fixed. My Kenmore Elite Amana in my garage has never broken or had any problem after over 20 years. I expect my Samsung to last less than 2 years, SHAME ON YOU SAMSUNG!! You will read my review, but not fix anything. You should be contacting all purchasers with this problem and help them fix it!! DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG until they back up their products.

Bad Ice Maker design kills the deal

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Beautiful refrigerator, the flex zone is awesome and makes perfect temperature drinks with the soft freeze setting. Sadly the ice maker is completely useless and all the frustration and work totally negates all the good about this refrigerator. The ice maker is actually located in the refrigerator compartment, while Samsung made an effort to seal and insulate the ice maker somehow moisture and warm air gets in and the ice maker freezes over with a thick frost. Once it is frosted over the ice cannot fall down the narrow path into the bucket/dispenser and it all jams up. Out come the long knives and hair dryer to try and reach into the narrow space and defrost everything. Sadly even when it isn't frozen up the ice maker is very very slow. If one spends this much money on a refrigerator the ice maker must work flawlessly. I shouldn't have to spend this much money only to buy bags of ice several times a week or buy a countertop ice maker. I honestly wish I could get my money back.

I purchased this fridge (2018 version) as the first appliance for my new house. Its the one thing we splurged on 4 years ago. We paid over $3500. Whelp 4 years later it doesnt work. Samsung stated it was not within warrenty and we'd needed to pay +$100 for a service tech to come out. After 3 techs coming out, the last service tech stated it would be +$1000 to fix and it was not covered. So +$1100 to fix and oh yeah they would need to charge me another service request. I have 2 children at home so I'm forced to fix the fridge. I buy no less they 3 samsung products a year... well use too. I will never buy samsung again.

    So terribly disappointed!!!

I purchased the Samsung Family Hub refrigerator a year and a half ago. Since that time, I have had to call Geek Squad three or four times for a recurrent problem with the ice maker. I was told that it was a factory defect concerning the seal around the compartment. The last two Geek Squad contracted technicians replaced a variety of parts and resealed the compartment, each time assuring me that the problem was fixed. Once again, the compartment has frozen up resulting in no ice being produced and dripping from the compartment into the refrigerator. Yesterday, my husband and I waited for the technician to arrive to once again attempt to fix the problem. After waiting through the five hour promised window of arrival, the technician never even showed up. My husband called and spoke to a supervisor who had no explanation for why the technician did not arrive and has not yet returned our call. Considering the price point of this refrigerator as well as having purchased the extended warranty protection, our investment has been significant. Isn't it crazy that we had to buy bags of ice while we had company last week and have to continually wipe water out of the refrigerator? In addition to the inconvenience, we have been insulted by the terrible service of Best Buy and Geek Squad. Considering that we have spent a veritable fortune over the years on TVs, computers, printers and appliances, I would have expected much better. We will avoid shopping there in the future and hope that this review will serve as a cautionary message for others. I now intend to escalate this to the corporate level and will hope for a satisfactory resolution. It is a disgrace that a business would treat a good customer with such disregard!!

    Fridge of the Future

This is really what fridges will evolve to in the future. There are a lot of things I like about this fridge. My old fridge came with the house. I have had it repaired previously due to water leaking and it freezing up. The new 4 door flex is really a substantial upgrade for a few reasons. The idea you can customize a Flex zone compartment is a really great idea. We have experimented but have been keeping it in on the meat and fish works well to keep other items a little cooler than in the main fridge, but still not frozen. The family hub screen is big and clear and lets you interact in a whole new way. The features like having your fridge connected to WiFi and being able to inventory food and expiration dates is really neat. With Bixby voice control you don’t even need to type. The size is great and compared from the freezer drawer at the bottom of my old fridge, this one really isn’t that mud smaller because it’s much easier to organize with the design. It’s like having a fridge, a freezer and a whole extra Customizable fridge or freezer. It is sleek and well made. The doors feel like they are good quality to last many openings and closings and don’t feel too heavy. The ice maker seems to be the only complaint in my household. The ice is smaller than our last fridge and the crushed ice setting takes too long. It is amazing they were able to make the ice maker so small and it does not seem to intrude too much into the fridge. The shelves are very customizable and there is a lot of space on the doors as well. Overall it is a great design and the technology is very impressive. The first thing I did with the family hub was download the app on my phone and post some family pictures to the fridge. It’s amazing that you can write notes right on the fridge and I can see us posting pictures all the time as well as uploading older photos based on the season as well. Just imagine posting old photos of someone on their birthday or Family Christmas photos in December. That is so much better than a photo frame, because going to the fridge you are captivated and maybe take a few extra seconds to appreciate those special memories. It is a nice touch also that based on the weather the screen saver on the fridge changes. I would recommend the Family Hub 28 cu ft 4 door flex to everyone.

    Bad design

Bought this refrigerator in 2016. The overall design is insufficient. Shelves are short, vegetable bin is small, but most upsetting is the ice maker. I have had it serviced 5 times in 2.5 years. They changed mechanisms & replaced the mother board. Geek Squad use to service these but I guess they cannot any more so they out source it. Contacted Sumsung as I had bought a warrenty(thank goodness) and asked about replacement. Was quickly told that the lemon law did not cover the ice maker. Apparently they knew it was faulty. I highly recommend not buying this refrigerator. I have read other reviews & see I am not the only one with this problem.

Don't buy for the smart features

I'm going to make this fridge review short and sweet. I'm an IT Professional working in information security and my entire home is setup for home automation. I'm familiar with most "smart" products today and I absolutely despise Samsung Bixby, even before this purchase I had this opinion and this purchase only reinforced that opinion. In short, Bixby is awful. We tried playing with it "Bixby, tell me a joke" – Bixby: "I can't do that yet" Even with the aforementioned apprehension I still purchased this fridge anyway for some of its other “smart” integrations and features. What I can tell you the apps on this tablet aren't kept up to date, the tablet performance is lackluster and most apps crash more often than they function. Got a Ring Doorbell? Expect issues, even if you POE the Elite Ring Doorbell the Ring app on the fridge tablet will cut out, break up, freeze, fail to "connect", etc. Love Pandora? Expect issues, like just randomly stopping playing the music for no reason or asking "are you still there?" and stopping the music play. There is no current method to root the tablet and no way to sideload apps either. At best I can report that this fridge does a good job of keeping the wife entertained with digital photos on the fridge. Samsung really screwed up disabling Alexa / Google Home support on this thing. As soon as I can root or sideload apps I'm planning on doing it. Would I buy it again? Probably because some stuff is "OK" at best and the wife is happy. However, I would caution that buying this fridge right now is like buying something still in Beta testing, I expect Samsung will fix it over time but as of August 30th, 2018. It's mostly junk for smart features....

I bought this fridge when they first came out and the ice maker leaks and doesnt produce ice. The ice maker clogs up and I called CS at Samsung and said I see this is an issue with your fridge and want to see about fixing mine. Well my warranty was out the month earlier and said they would not fix it. I called a repair man and 400.00 later it was fixed oh but hold on 4 months later same issue well they only give a 90 day coverage. So once again I'm screwed read all the reviews and listen to us telling you beware

We have had this fridge for two months. I would have given it a one star rating but there are some good things about out. We liked the music feature but Pandora app does not work. It just spins and times out. A tech was sent out and spent two hours to no avail. Samsung has since been completely unresponsive and acknowledges it is a widespread issue. I Googled it and confirmed many having the same issue. Keeps food cold but now stuck with a refrigerator that is a very nice clock.

    Defective Ice Maker

I bought this refrigerator for the flex bottom right door that can be used as a freezer or refrigerator, plus I loved the look of the refrigerator plus the sleek look of the ice/water dispenser. BUT the ice maker freezes up. It was replaced and fixed 3 times on the first refrigerator. I then received another updated unit and was told the ice maker problem had been corrected. After 3 months it froze up, was repaired and now has froze up again. This is a very expensive product and for the ice maker not to work but for a few months is very frustrating. Plus it seems the fixes do not work either. The first refrigerator they replaced the ice maker and it still didn't work but for a couple of months. I would not recommend this refrigerator. I can't review the hub because I only use it for the time, weather and grocery list.

    CONSTANT ICE MAKER FAILURE

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We have had this refrigerator for a about 2 years now. The ice make has failed 5 times because it ices up and stops working. The water runs down inside the ice maker and freezes everything up. We are so glad we purchased the Geek Squad extended warranty for 5 years but we are concerned what happens when the warranty runs out. This is a known problem with this refrigerator and Samsung is doing nothing but throwing parts at the issue. Apparently the position of the ice maker (in the refrigerator section) is the cause of the problem. They have been unable to get the ice maker insulated enough from the warmer temp in the refrigerator so the ice is constantly melting. We love the rest of the refrigerator and the touch screen but are fed up with having to call Geek Squad ever 4 months or so. We are on a first name basis with the technician at this point. If we had know this issue existed on this model we would not have purchased it. We have another call into Geek Squad (Dec 2019) to come out again because now we have frozen water in the bottom of the freezer and cannot get the bottom draw out!

    DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

BUYER BEWARE! This refrigerator WILL leak because of the way Samsung builds them. Ours started leaking because there is condensation that builds up and doesn't drain properly. We contacted Samsung and they sent out a tech that said this was a KNOWN DEFECT and is NOT REPAIRABLE. Samsung told us they would prorate the amount we paid for the refrigerator because it was 2 WEEKS after the warranty expired. We agreed on a price that was 50% of what we paid, they made us fill out paperwork, include half a dozen pictures and once complete we would have our money in a week. That was 4 months ago. Every week after that they would call us telling we had another hoop to jump through... Then after 6 weeks of that, they changed the amount to only 25%. Everytime we call they tell us it was a mistake and they will fix it, and we will have the 50% amount within a week. A week passes and they try to only give us 25% and we call and go through the same lies and promises. DO NOT BUY A REFRIGERATOR, this piece of junk lasted a year, just until the warranty ran out. BEST BUY knows these are garbage but is under contract to sell them.

    Do NOT buy this refrigerator!

While I absolutely love the idea of the flex refrigerator and love how this one looks, the performance is awful. First issue – horrible ice maker. The container that holds the ice is tiny and it often spews out shards of ice with no cubes. We bought this in Oc.t 2018 and in Oct 2019 had to have the ice maker fixed. In Jan 2021, with the fridge being a little over 2 years old, it went out – we lost everything in the freezer and the fridge. And the water feature in the door was not working. After 2 weeks, and 2 visits from the Samsung repair team, the compressor was replaced – in a 2 year old refrigerator! The next day however, everything in the fridge was frozen. So now the entire unit was acting like a freezer and we still did not have the water or ice feature working. Now another Samsung person will call us to schedule a repair – so now, entering the third week into this ordeal, we still do not have a working refrigerator! So, as much as I love the look of this, I will NEVER buy a Samsung appliance again. And unfortunately, as we discuss this with people we know, I am hearing similar horror stories. And I am seeing class action suits against Samsung, particularly for the horrible ice makers they use. Wish I had known this before I bought it – my bad for not doing more research! Samsung, get your act together!!
