Superior function, but at a cost...

Up 'til now, I'd only had coil-type range and lower-end gas models. Despite some reservations, my wife and I went with the glass cooktop this time around. After returning our original choice (the double oven model, which malfunctioned after less than a week...kind of makes one think twice about Samsung's quality control) we settled on this one. It works great. No doubt about it: superior to anything we've had before; few if any 'hot spots' with the stovetop units, ensuring even cooking; the oven is great. BUT the glass stovetop truly is a nightmare. I'm definitely no taskmaster when it comes to cleanliness, but this thing is a real pain. Please realize that you cannot simply wipe it clean--even when you assiduously adhere to the limitations stated in the manual, etc. You have to buy, and consistently use, special cleaners. Don't even think about a sponge doing the trick; it'll just leave major, pretty unsightly streaks. The glass cooktop cleaner I use actually comes with a 'widget'-type razorblade device to scrape off unexpected spots that accumulate whenever I cook most anything. I use this thing all the time. And I use top-of-the-line pans, too--All Clad and, again--I always heed/adhere to the warnings/restrictions specifies by Samsung and by All Clad. Usually, though, after cooking, I just end up with a weird, milky haze which is a little easier to 'erase', without resorting to the razorblade. Cooking notwithstanding, the red cast of the cooktop--sort of like the glass on those really old 70s watches--ALWAYS highlights dust, even after a couple of hours. In short: if you're a 'clean-freak' BEWARE. Aside from minor cosmetic concerns, the cooktop does, in FACT, scratch EXTREMELY easily. I miss the days when I could sautee--I mean really sautee, shaking the pan rather than picking up the whole pan and then giving it a shake, or, usually, having to resort to stirring, which takes a big part of the fun and effectiveness out of that type of cooking. So the bottom line is that I fear, before long, that the cooktop will end up looking like total you-know-what . Something, I guess, that I'll have to get used to. If I had it to do all over again, though, honestly, I'd resign myself to the trade-off; I'd go with another $500 coil-top. Then put the difference toward a trip to Paris for the culinary 'edge' I thought I might get with this range. The keypad has too many functions for even a semi-serious home cook. I mean, a 'chicken nuggets' button? Come on. Plus, their 'feel' is off: too hard to press decisively. Sometimes I think that I'll put my finger through the entire console. Like most things, more often than not, good cooking is about simplicity, but good luck telling that to most people nowadays. And probably not Samsung, unfortunately! Lastly: a word about Best Buy. They were awesome about exchanging my first Samsung dud, especially after it seemed that the folks at Samsung had been trying to simply wash their hands of the whole issue. I'll continue to buy my stuff from Best Buy, including my phone upgrade, which I am afraid will not be a Galaxy smartphone.

    Nice Range

I really like my Samsung Range, but I am disappointed that I have had to have a service call twice already and have not had it quite 2 years. My first call was to test the thermostat, which was shown to be working properly. Apparently the oven heats better when using the convection setting. I had issues baking at Christmas on the regular bake setting. In the past couple of weeks my broiler element burned out, in quite a violent display of sparks and spews. It was very frightening. Again I've only had my range 22 months. I would expect the elements to last longer, especially given that I only cook for one on a regular basis. I guess things aren't made to last like they once were. (I had my previous range 26 years and didn't replace the broiler element until after the 20 year mark! I only replaced the range because I was remodeling my kitchen!)

My wife and I looked at quite a few ranges before choosing this unit. We were drawn to the simple design in stainless and black as well as controls that were mounted on the top back panel, out of the reach of little ones. We had a coil top electric for a year before this, and gas before that, and each has come with a bit of a learning curve. The only downside to this unit that I would mention is that it seems the cooktop does not cool down very fast and food will continue to cook sometimes longer than you may like. We've learned to remove it from the burner when we want the pan to cool. I'd say that this is really a difference between electric and gas in general. We highly recommend it.

I really like my new range. The convection oven does a great job baking those favorite items...pies, cookies..as well as other things. I wish that the induction top offered more choices in sizes of pots that could be used. As in the other reviews, the induction top reaches a boiling point much quicker then the conventional electric top which allows shorter time in the kitchen. All in all, I am glad that I purchased this range, it looks great in my kitchen..

So far I'm loving my stove. Lots of features. I like the warming drawer, although I keep my pot lids in it. The oven is a good big size as well.

I bought this range at the same time as a fridge and micro. Love it! Made a ton of baked items and it bakes evenly all the way to the edges of the cookie sheets. The warming drawer is huge and I store even my largest cookie sheets in it :) The range is a beauty and so far no problems keeping it clean. I wipe it and then dry it when needed. Fingerprints have been no issue on the SS surfaces but the black keyboard does get prints. Just lock the keyboard and wipe it clean and dry. This replaces a WPG gas range that was failing and showed its bad side over Thanksgiving, ruining many of my holiday dishes. I have always wanted electric and now I will never go back!

Great replacement for 10-year old range

Replaced a KitchenAid ceramic stovetop that had been problematic since day one. Dials didn't always work, oven was noisy, rarely kept temp, etc. Enter the Samsung. Oven temperature is spot on and very quiet, whether in standard or convection mode. Rapid boil is a huge improvement from older ceramic tops that took forever to boil a pot of water. Got this for $879 on sale, well worth the money. Recommended without hesitation.

    Waste of money

We bought this range a little over a year ago from Best Buy mainly because of the reviews of websites like this. My wife hates this appliance. The cook top is almost impossible to keep clean and it scratches very easily. It's very hard to control the temperature on the stove top. I can't tell you how many times she has burned meals with the burners set on very low, (even the warming center is too hot) (She never burned anything on our old stove) And the last straw was, she dropped a small jar of spice (from about 4 inches) onto the cook top and it developed a 14 inch crack running through the back burner and the warming center. I sealed the crack with high temp silicon because the manual says if the cook top cracks, then there is a chance of an explosion if liquid gets in the crack. Now we are forced to use this stove until we can afford another. (A replacement top is well over $400 (without the labor of replacement). This is the worst stove we've ever owned. $1200.00 down the drain. DO NOT BUY!

Samsung should stick to TVs and phones

Looks sexy and worked great for a year. Stove still boils water faster than previous stove...that was 25 years old. At least I got my moneys worth out of the last one. For all its bells and whistles, the oven simply does not work. It takes an hour to preheat to 350 and goes no higher. A repairman said two separate circuit boards are bad, causing the oven to pull between no voltage and 120 volts, but never pulling the 240v that it's supposed to. The broiler doesn't pull any voltage. Samsung states the boards can't even be replaced due to the factory that makes them having been destroyed in the tsunami a few years back, so they have to rebuild the factory before they can replace the parts to my nearly $1000 range that worked for barely more than a year...or just past the included warranty. The repair man said his consignment shop is full of these and to never buy Samsung appliances. Chalk this one up to a very expensive mistake. Best Buy reviews are misleading. Check "Consumer Reports" reviews before you buy this. The $50 toaster oven I've been using to replace the oven has been more effective.

    Questionable Quality?

I got this range the first time before Thanksgiving 2012. The oven is great, heats quickly and the convection feature is nice and reduces baking time. The cooktop is not so great at all. The fastboil feature is not fast at all. I tried both fastboil burners - one with a 1 qt saucepan and the other with a 2 qt saucepan. Both took 12 minutes to get the water close to a rolling boil. That is not fast. I called Samsung; they said water should boil in 2 minutes and mine must be defective. Today, BBC exchanged my range. I just tried the fast boil burners again. Not any better - in fact it might be worse. The right burner wasn't boiling water in a 2 qt saucepan after 12 minutes without a lid. I put the lid on and finally at 15 minutes I got something closely resembling a boil. On the front left burner I used a 1 qt saucepan and put the lid on right away. The water came to a rolling boil in 8 minutes. Is that fast? I would be interested to know what others are experiencing with the fast boil feature.

    Ceramic Cook-Top scratches Too Easily

    Posted .

Having been convinced, less than 6 months ago, that ceramic cook-tops were the best option out there, we purchased one. From day one, using proper cookware, cleaning methods and lifting technique, I've found that It scratches too easily. Since I do most of the cooking, my wife has a fit every time she sees the scratches, old and new. Before this range is even paid for, either the range or I will be cast out on the curb and replaced with a coil-top range.
