To do away with having to pay for a Spectrum Box Monthly but every time you shut the T. V. Great picture
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This replaces a 12 year old smaller Samsung TV. The quality of the picture over the other is amazing. The brightness and clarity are obvious. Viewing is more enjoyable now.

TV stopped working within 2 months after purchase
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased TV in November 2016, TV stopped working in January 2017. We called the store to see if we could return the item, found out Item can only be returned to the store within 15 days of purchase. There is a 1 year warranty with the manufacturer, however Best Buy is unwilling/unable to help - you are basically on your own to figure this out with the manufacturer, so much for Best Buy customer service.

Features and performance impress
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was in the market for a new gaming display and it came down to this and two monitors. I had tried the Asus MX279H before purchasing the J5500 and while overall was pretty happy with the Asus returned for personal preference. The Asus was a great gaming display with low input lag and a very fast refresh rate, but the IPS panel combined with the matte finish made for a dull viewing experience. I decided to get the J5500 since it was on sale this week for $329.99,making it $15 more than the 27" Samsung monitor I was considering. Let's start with image quality. Samsung has always offered one of the best calibration suites on the market and the J5500 continues that trend. Everything is accounted for from the basic Backlight,brightness,contrast,etc.....to the multi point white balance and backlight scanning controls. Samsung has improved its smart greatly and offers a system that asthetically is very similar the LG's WebOs platform. Samsung has opted for a quad core processor to make streaming and browsing quick. My primary use for the Samsung was for console gaming and have a no frills 60hz display is no problem. I have put the TV through its paces and have that found its performance has surpassed most TV's I have owned outside of older CRT/Plasma displays. I don't personally own a Leo Bodner input lag tester, but reports are around 40-42ms in PC/Game modes. While Sony has been Input lag king for a few generations 15-25ms, 42ms is still a fairly respectable number. If you are a fighting game fanatic this number may scare you away from an otherwise fantastic display. I play primarily RPG's and co-op FPS games and have zero issue with lag. Samsung employs a VA panel which offer much richer colors, brighter white and much deeper black levels that its IPS/PLS and TN panel brethren. I have tested out some of my favorite torture rest games to see if the VA panel could hang? I am happy to say it passed with flying colors. From the haunted hallway of P.T, Alien Isolation and the cavernous recesses of the Earths moon on Destiny I saw buttery smooth motion. I saw no unnatural blur, judder or overdrive trailing in panning camera shots. Film offered a similar experience, but without a 24p film mode or customizable interpolation there was minor judder in film based content. Image depth on the others hand was not a problem with films like Prometheus and Tron:Legacy this thing truly shined. If you are a Pixar or dreamworks fan than the J5500 is right up your alley offering some the best looking CG eye candy on the market. Suffice to I am completely satisfied with my purchase and having owned Samsung products prior to the I continue to be impressed by their innovation on the home theater/gaming front.

Good but was expecting a little more...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of the more expensiv 32 inch LCDs on the market for 2015, so my expectations were pretty high. Let me start with the bad and I'll finish with the good. I thought the Smart TV functions were kind of a joke, but I was prepared for that after having read many reviews on many other smart TVs. Tried to stream on the HBO Go app and it worked but very jittery or, sluggish might be a better word (choppy and jittery). Streamed on the Netflix app next and that was better, but every five or so minutes would get a slight hiccup in the video stream on that one as well. Never had a streaming issue with Netflix on any other set up in my house. But like I said, the Smart TV was not the reason I bought this TV. I bought it for the high quality, 3 hdmis and 20 watts total audio output. This combination is almost non-existent in 32 inch LCDs. I thought the picture was pretty strong and quite customizable, even with a dynamic contrast function that actually works (on medium). The sound was also quite good, relatively speaking with a few good sound presets. To tweak the picture and sound takes quite a bit of clicking through the menu. But my main gripe was that the bright levels we're not consistent through the panel going from left to right, you can see sections that were brighter than other sections depending on the content you were watching, esp darker content. Finally, the audio sync was an issue on this TV. Even though there is an adjustment for audio sync, the audio didn't need to be delayed it needed to be sped up. But there was no adjustment for that, so audio was clearly not as in sync as the three other TVs in my house. Guess I'm just going to have to live with that one because i am keeping this TV. I guess I just expected these 2 fairly annoying issues not to be present in a panel at this price point.

Hail Samsungus III Magnus Emperor of ATSC TV!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I acquired this majestic regal set on Friday October 20th for these reasons; 1. a 720p panel is soooo c.2007 while a 1080p advances my personal state-of-the-art enhancing and enjoying the "eye candy" deriving from the technological evolution of flat TV's 2. Ever since 2012 our household have been forced to rely on OTA which is an homage back to the halcyon days of NTSC-M broadcasting which consists of "Oaters" & other ancient geriatric programs b. Propagandistic pronouncements from Protestant evangelicals gone bilingual 24/7/365.25 as well as ditto from infomercial inserts which is rendering my peepers into sick puppies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! c. Even though I've heard dire dour warnings about Smart TV becoming an outlet of some notoriously nefarious nabob of negative notions this movement to circumvent my second point in the hope that Smart TV would deliver some surcease from the draconian dysfunctional dystopia that governs US TV currently FCC Chairman Minnow would consider this a "wasteland" d. Thanks to the skirmishing between the Television & Computing industries which occurred during ATSC"s conception & the compromise which led to the VGA port being standard equipment on all digital TV's, I 've been using this as a computer monitor to escape the desolation of torpid television from Antenna TV I also started to have problems with my 2013 32" Haier tuner(aka the "rubber biscuit" panel because I got it as a gift around Christmas)couldn't pull in WPVI Channel 6 signal (that was due to the FCC repositioning its signal on another part of the atmospheric spectrum as a result Ch.6 had to boost it's transmission wattage when digital broadcasting commenced on June 12, 2009) without cutting out completely I was perpetually adjusting the "rabbit ears" & screwing or unscrewing the antenna terminal sometimes I saved it other times I lost making me miss quite a few episodes of certain TV shows because of that the 2 nuts located on the opposing sides of the blue colored VGA port came off & got lost collimating in bent pins which made my Windows desktop have either a cyan or magenta tinge to the white parts of the Windows OS because I had this happen to me before from 2001-06 when I had a 15" NEC CRT monitor I resolved to get a new panel sooner or later one way or another(which was truly "a sight for poor eyes" until that problem developed that's when I got my 1st flat screen.) II. The Set itself 1st of all these eyes( having witnessed the analog CRT champs Sanyo(in 1976, Zenith in 1983 & NEC in 1995) became enchanted and spoiled by the picture detail that a 1080p panel brings to the game The camera & makeup entourage on these shows will need their A+ game because owners of these sets can make out every flaw & detail of their looks, what they're wearing color wise as well another feature I appreciate is there's not only a better laid out TV Guide which informs the owner of what's on, the actors involved a summary of the episode, the resolution as well as the time of day & doubtless even more detail that I have yet to uncover btw I prefer a TV that has as much "bells & whistles" as one can afford to a "1 trick pony" that will be make one bored out of one's gourd ultimately The Sound Sonically this is the best sounding small set as well as the most powerful amps since my 20' NEC 2030S c 2k the last CRT the sound emanating from this boxes makes one wonder why one even need a sound bar(back during the 1970's I owned a Pioneer SX 1250 system that was so eargasmically good I was dubbed the Audio Ayatollah by my buds back in 1979) it's a shame there's no headphone jack to make me get lost in sound like that but at least once I turn on the sound I can come pretty close The jacks & ports The plethora of ports & jacks offered on this model are exceeded only by my 1st Samsung panel, the white colored 2007 model 1954 which had so many ports & jacks that I think could've been the basis for a true AVPC triad similar to the aforementioned Pioneer system had I the economic prowess to revive it there are only 1 niggling issue that need to be overcome to achieve electronic Nirvana that is whether I can adapt the Smart Set to my old school wired network that shuts down periodically & is slower than molasses in winter via a USB extension & a firmware upgrade they would be the only clouds in the sky of this grand TV set my interregnum rating of this J5500 is 4.9 of 5! C: The Staff of Best Buy#589 I've patronized this store since c. March 2k when I upgraded PC#2 an IBM Aptiva from 16-80MB of memory. Since I also knew quite a bit about Audio, Video & computers I also wanted to join them as well to the point of practically "haunting" it because it was only 4 blocks from where I worked In the 17 years I've been buying from there the peeps have augmented what I learned about AVPC's since 1974 when my college buds turned me into a hopelessly addled audio addict. This relationship has enabled to purchase 2 of my last 4 computers from #589 In addition I would've preferred to buy my 3rd one(an HP Pavilion 8765c from there but this store was sold out so I had to go to the Plymouth Meeting branch to get that one. The staff is friendly credible & put no pressure on you to seal the deal I hope they don't mind me drooling. Now that I'm on line I find it advantageous to do the "homework" I still prefer to spend my dollars at the store I hope they can prevail because I don't trust on line buying I will try my best to keep them open for as long as possible Conclusion Let me go back to my summary title " Samsungus III Magnus" this is the 3rd Samsung TV (the 2nd one went to another friend who couldn't afford a HDTV at the time & I wanted her to experience the splendor of HD broadcasts rather than settle for SDTV via those discount boxes that everybody had when the transition took place back in 2009 it has more than held up the honor of the Samsung brand name heritage & its legacy Here's hoping the 3rd time is indeed the charm

Solid, Reliable, Good-Looking TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV is pretty solid, especially for being on the smaller end. Fantastic 1080p HD picture, connected with an HDMI to an HD cable provider (Verizon, Comcast, DirecTV, etc), this TV delivers fantastic picture quality. Very lightweight, very easy to set-up. My only gripe is that there is a slight (and I mean s-l-i-g-h-t) variation between the sound & the picture when it is first hooked up. However, with some tweaking, as well as shutting off certain features (clear motion, for one), this problem can be managed. Overall, fantastic little TV for someone looking for all that HD can offer in a smaller size.

Best TV I've seen
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are looking for a 32 inch smart TV, look no further. This is the BEST picture, color, contrast and clarity on ANY TV I've seen, maybe except for the 4k Ultra TV's. Please do yourself a favor and get this set! I love Samsung, as I already have a 40 inch of this brand. My settings on this set are: Dynamic, then Backlight 18... Contrast 95...Brightness 55...Sharpness 46...Color 48...Tint 47/53....There are a few other adjustments you can make but use the darkest contrast. Even the standard channels are almost HD quality! Five stars!! A real beauty!! Easy set up! Buy this one!!

Good Solid TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the TV for the most part. I have no problem with the picture... it's good. I like the "smart tv" aspect of it, which I use a lot. You can watch netflix, hulu, hobo, amazon etc., without an external box, and that works really well. You can do it either through wireless or via an ethernet cable. The sound from the built-in speakers is adequate, nothing special, but par for the course. It has a decent amount of inputs (3 HDMI, which is pretty good), plus some digital audio outputs which are useful for sound bars and speakers. The inputs are fairly accessible too, being on the rear, but facing the side, so plugging and unplugging outpost is easier than most sets. Overall you can do a lot worse, this is a good choice for a 32" TV and certainly has a compelling price. Samsung tv's have lasted a long time for me in the past.
