Upgraded to this beautiful 4K set just after Christmas. We have another Samsung in the Master Bedroom as well as a computer monitor. I have always been impressed with the rich color and quality of these other Samsung products.
I did plenty of research on the features of various brands and this one literally fit the bill. (Size was a factor in our entertainment unit.) After reading other reviews and professional ratings on the Samsung product, I ultimately landed with this model.
Overall, I’ve been very impressed with this TV with few exceptions. (Noted below.) Out of the box, this set needs to be calibrated and you can find various settings/calibrations for this set via an internet search. After trying a few, I did find the perfect match that I fell in love with. (Although they all appear to improve the picture from its default settings.) Calibrating and setting things up properly will alleviate what some call the Soap Opera Effect – which is hard to describe, but you’ll know it when you see it. It also makes various modes stand out when watching movies or sports for example.
Upscaling works very well, and it’s clearly the best picture in the house. Even Standard Definition (Streaming 480P of older movies via Plex) appears to be very vibrant and clearer. Likewise, I really enjoyed “Sports Mode” while watching the NFL playoffs this year. The picture just POPS and is extremely impressive on this TV. Movies are also a pleasure - and while 4K content is limited, when it’s found, the picture is absolutely stunning. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before.
ANYNET is also a HUGE plus. ANYNET communicates with Satellite/Cable box and DVD Player via the HDMI connection so when one is turned on, the TV automatically switches to that input. Your Samsung remote also controls channels, pause/play, and fast forward of these devices. Really sharp, and a huge plus in my book. The wife and kids still like to use the Satellite and DVD remotes and when powered on, the set automatically changes to that input. Huge plus in their book.
This set comes with two remotes. One like your typical remote, and the other is a sleeker version that can also be used to point and click. I’ve been working with the latter for some time, and while I’ve gotten better with working with this sleeker remote it’s still a work in progress. (Although it scores very in the cool factor department.)
Another nice feature is the One Connect box. All your various connections hook into this one box and one cable connects the box to the TV. The advantage of a box like this is small unit can be upgraded without having to upgrade the entire TV.
If there is one thing I’ve been disappointed in it’s the Smart TV (Tizen) streaming system. Personally, I do a lot of streaming and have been using a Roku 3 for years. It just doesn’t compare in my opinion. Sure, the Tizen system has all the major apps, Netfiix, Hulu, Amazon, Youtube. Plex, Twit and the sort – but offerings are rather limited at this point. Likewise, I’ve used both and the even the older Roku 3 streams better than the Tizen system. It’s light years quicker in switching apps, and while both are hard wired streaming is more responsive and faster on the Roku. Granted – the Roku 3 does not have 4K capability, and streaming in 4K on Netflix via the TV is absolutely stunning – unless it’s 4K, I’ve found myself switching over to Roku for streaming my content. As 4K content becomes more popular, I’ll most likely upgrade to a Roku 4 for 4K content and streaming.
With the exception of a built in Web Browser (which I’ve only used on a limited basis due to having a laptop right next to me.) there is really nothing this Smart TV system offers that a Roku can’t do better and faster.
Overall, I’ve been extremely impressed with this TV. The overall satisfaction and quality of this purchase still remains 5 stars.

A thin black line has appeared across the bottom of the screen, up to know there have not been any issues with the TV. Looking for a new one to replace this, but will use this in the kids playroom.

The Samsung Un40JU7100 is a great television with excellent picture quality. I was concerned about fast moving sports on this model, but it works flawlessly. Really happy with the menu system and ease of use. Hooked this up to a Samsung sound bar and used the HDMI ARC-port and I am able to control everything with a single remote. I was deciding between this and the Samsung J6300, but ultimately went with this model due to the faster motion rate for sports. I have watched some stuff in 4k UHD and it looks great. The up scaled 1080p sources look crisp and clear as well.

Good when there's no issues, but there's always issues. When I first purchased, always had issues with TWC app - just staying connected and audio syncing - which eventually got fixed years later. Also, ongoing issues when navigating with remote - will select two items at a time, significant delay, requires turning TV on/off multiples times - just a headache and unusable.

whats with Samsung???

the TV is nice, the issue is that Samgsung continually dumps new software into my TV. this software is from some company that paid samsung for an icon space. they delite the apps for programs I want, like music and movie apps, then you will have to go back and reinstall them and in some cases get on line on your computer and reestablish your account. Samsung, never again with any product, waste someone elses time Samsung!

Excellent as a computer monitor

I actually use this as a giant computer monitor. Traditional 4K monitors seem to be in the 28"-32" range, and that's just too small to see things without increasing the display DPI settings #zooming#, which defeats the whole reason I wanted a 4K display, which is for more screen real estate.
This Samsung display allows me to run 4K at 100% resolution #no zooming#, and looks amazing, it runs 4K@60hz 4:4:4 from NVidia 900 series graphics cards #many 4K displays don't#. I'm super happy with the quality of the display, and the improvement to my work efficiency the extra real estate has realized.

Have had the TV for a couple of weeks now with no major issues. Overall I am satisfied. Only gripes so far is that the picture gets a bit choppy during live sports and action scenes, also some of the apps take a while to respond to remote, especially when booting them up.

Great TV with lots of adjustments. You can really customize the settings to your liking. Discovered problem with streaming Vudu.. Samsung was great to work with and had a fix within one week after reporting. YOU have the option to let the support staff take over the TV and see what is happening first hand. The 3D is the best I have seen.

Worst TV we have owned - reliability

Samsung 7100 UHD. We purchased this TV based on reviews that it had a great picture. No question it HAD a great picture. The BIG problem is that 60 days after we purchased it on December 2015 , the TV failed January 31, 2016. No picture - it will not turn on. We tried calling Samsung they told us that the TV was out a warranty, even though the date of manufacture on the back of the TV is November 2015. These TV's are supposed to have a 1 year warranty, well they don't. After repeated emails and phone calls Samsung has not given us any indication what they will do. All they told us was there is an internal problem with the TV. It could not be fixed by the customer and would not be covered under warranty even though the TV is 60 days old.
We are waiting to see if Best Buy can help us.
Our advice - DO NOT BUY THIS TV or any SAMSUNG PRODUCT.

Pricy but a very clear picture. Very, very, little blur on pixels. Volume set up was tricky. Sound seem to fade in and out till I found a setting that I liked. Haven't tried 3D. Service a Best Buy is alway above average.
