It was definitely time for a new television as ours was probably close to 20 years old. This new smart TV is great. The clarity wonderful. Very user-friendly would recommend this product to a family or friend. Will continue to shop with Best Buy great customer service.

The sales associate was very knowledgeable, helped us select the TV. The installation was done well, the service was excellent. Very well attended to and met all our expectations. I give 100% to both the people , the sales associate and the service gentleman who did the installation.

Love this TV.. Its the perfect size for my space where it's located. Its easy to work remotely especially through the Smart Apps. I enjoy connecting to it from other app devices for the larger screen. Its wonderful for the sale price I got it for. No disappointments so far.

Overall a good buy. Not crazy about the color but I may just need to play with the controls a bit more. I ordered it online because of the virus and I wish I had been able to see it in the store so I could see the color setup.

When I selected this set, I expected to see an upgrade in picture quality and a good mix of supported apps. Installation was relatively easy, although it took a couple of attempts to get the set integrated with SmartThings. I was unimpressed with the picture quality. No specific complaints, but I was simply underwhelmed with the averageness of the picture. More the issue in an odd way that the set complains if an input is not available when the set turns. For example, if the Ps4 is not powered on, it interrupts what you are watching on a different input o complain. You are forced to look at the list of inputs and deselect the input that you want to use and is presumably powered on. I am also seeing issues with the imbedded smart apps. Prime video will receive “An error occurred” try again later message, even though I was watching prime previously. I end up having to switch to Chromecast, and use prime video from my phone to get things started. Bottom line, it looks like a good code upgrade would raise my score a few stars, but for now, I would have to rate this below average.

      Madempc,

Thank you for our purchase and review.
I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues.

There are several preset picture modes and many custom settings that can optimize image quality to your viewing scenario.
Go to HOME > SETTINGS > PICTURE > PICTURE MODE and choose:
      1) Dynamic: Makes the picture brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments.
      2) Standard: This is the default mode suitable for general viewing environments.
      3) Natural: Reduces eye strain for a comfortable viewing experience.
      4) Movie: Suitable for watching TV or movies in a dark room.
      5) Filmmaker: Watch the source content (e.g., movie) as it is.

Here is a link to the downloadable eManual, where you can find a detailed guide to configuring advanced picture setting (pages 92-93):

The input issue and Prime app error message do not seem normal, and may require troubleshooting.

Bought this SMART TV on recommendation of a friend. Took me a while to figure out how to set it up and use all these things like streaming, etc. Glad I bought it. Thinking about giving up my cable. Would buy it again. Needed more help on demonstrations for seniors.

I bought a new Samsung 50 inch TV that was delivered and then set up. The process was easy, the technician was great, and everything went as planned. Thanks for providing an excellent service that took the headaches out of a process that normally would be a problem

Samsung has done a great job of making a great display as difficult to use as possible, It is filled with bloat like their cell phones. I get their business model but I'd pay more for a bloat free device. It doesn't work with all of my older HDMI connections. Audio will not work on a particular STB from 2008. Sometimes it will just drop the audio on another box. To recover audio you need to remove and then re-connect the HDMI cable. This seems easy but if you unplug an HDMI connection and plug it back the TV wants you to go through the entire port set up again. I just skip the setup steps now and I use a universal remote.

I like the ability to screen share from my Samsung cell phone to the TV. I can stream a movie with my cell phone and then use Smart View to watch the movie on the TV. This streaming does not count as Mobile Hotspot data which has a high-speed cap of 30G on my cell phone plan.

This TV was great while it worked. However, after 11 months, the screen went black and would not turn on. I expect more from a Samsung TV that we paid $400 on. Called Samsung, since it's only warranted for 1 year, the cost to repair per the contractor they provided would be about $220. I think I'll just add another $100 and buy a new TV from a different brand. Disappointed in this Samsung purchase.

Very poor sound quality. Has no RCA sound outlets, only hdmi. As a result my old speakers do not work with it. Wish I had known this before I bought it. Should have checked. Bought a sound bar to try to improve sound. Had to return it as it did not help. For non technical people, this sounded like a good buy. Unfortunately, it proved not to be. The remote that comes with it is very limited and I find it difficult to use. No good instructions. Would not recommend buying this model.

I purchased this set on sale for $400. It has been good so far. The operating system can be a little lagging when first turned on on and picture quality suffers slightly at sharp viewing angle but otherwise it is well worth the money!

Died after just over 2 years

Purchased this TV in August 2020 and just after the one-year warranty expired (surprise) I noticed a faint horizontal line running across the picture where some of the pixels had gone bad, I'm guessing. I didn't purchase the Best Buy warranty so I called Samsung and they offered to do a claim for nearly the amount I paid for the TV, no thanks! I'd also been experiencing situations where I'd have to "reset" the TV by unplugging it at least once per week. Fast forward another year and I'm watching TV, I pause it for about 20 minutes, and go to resume watching and when I do so, the channel fades to black and starts flickering. I unplug the TV to reset it, thinking it's just another weekly glitch, only to find that the TV flickers off/on black. I can see some light but no picture ever comes on or anything. I try swapping the HDMI cord, as recommended by a Samsung blog I found but that doesn't help either. So, here I am, purchasing another TV. I had another TV brand, less popular/reputable before I purchased this Samsung TV in 2020 and it lasted for just over 10 years before it died on me. In case you're wondering, I am NOT buying another Samsung TV. I'm going with a different brand this time! I think I learned my lesson wasting money on this piece of junk! Sad, because I own other Samsung products and never had this problem with them which is why I felt confident in purchasing their TV.

Good TV But Has Turn On Issue

The Samsung 50" 8 Series TV is a good TV for the price, but has a significant issue. The problem is sometimes it will not turn on. We had to Google the problem and luckily there was a way to get the TV to turn on. You unplug the TV and press and hold the ON button on the bottom center of the TV for at least 10 seconds. Then wait a few minutes and plug in the TV. Press the ON button and voila, the TV starts working again. Samsung should fix this issue. This issue causes the 3 star rating rather than 5 stars.

Was looking for an upgrade from my last TV and honestly I'm glad I upgraded to this one. This might not be a big deal for some but for me having old systems I was glad it still had AV connections. I even ditched my firestick cause this had all I was looking for.

Until recently, I bragged to everyone about how much I loved my television. I've had this tv for a little over 2 years and it started having power on issues. Powering on can take anywhere from 10 minutes-an hour. I truly expected more from Samsung. I'm afraid to turn it off at this point (if it ever comes back on again).

I purchased this TV on Dec 12 2020. Yesterday 12/22/2022 it stopped working. It was a great TV when it did work. Good picture and good sound quality. WHEN THE TV STARTS TO FAIL: You will notice it in the sound first. The tv will not be loud enough at your normal setting and other time too loud at your normal setting. Then it starts to take a long time to turn on.
