Very Disappointed

Sound: distorted bass - kind of an irritating thumping sound that I minimized by turning the bass ranges completely off in the equalizer. Smart TV feature - apps are slow to be be available and when they do become available they are of poor quality compared to the Roku device I use on another TV. Intend to buy a Roku and completely bypass the Samsung apps. The over the air channel guide buffers excessively. Based on Google searches this has been a problem for years with Samsung TVs and Samsung has done nothing to correct the situation.

Good picture but

For instance, connecting with an IOS phone doesn’t work, samsung states it’s Apples responsility. The Direct TV App doesn’t function corrrctly, it won’t accept my password when entered through the Samsung App, the password works with my laptop, iPhone and iPad with the direct Tv app that is on those deviced

Beautiful picture for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.We needed a 50-55" TV that was less than $400 and were narrowed down to the Samsung NU7100, TCL 5-series and LG UK6300. After studying countless online reviews and staring at them all in store for an uncomfortably long time, I settled on the Samsung NU7100 50" (it was on sale for <$400). Unfortunately, without being able to play with the smart features in store (I did ask, but they were unable to accommodate), I made the decision on picture quality alone. This one being the only screen with a very consistent color with no distracting dark areas (TCL) or exaggerated contrast (LG). UNPACK & INSTALL: It was very easy to remove from the box and attach to our mount, and at 30 pounds, I was able to do it without assistance. Since we mounted it straight out of the box, I didn't mess with the stands, but can understand people's frustration with those as they are spaced very far apart and would require a very wide cabinet. If we didn't have a mount, it would not fit on our cabinet. It does come with the necessary spacers for mounting, but not screws. Initial setup was very easy with the remote, especially since I already had a Samsung account and the Samsung app loaded on my phone, which makes it super simple. PICTURE QUALITY: I am extremely pleased with the picture quality, brightness and color, especially compared to our previous Samsung 1080p model. There are also a lot of customization options for adjusting color tone and brightness, as well as ambient brightness control, to calibrate it just the way you like. Contrast is excellent with very dark blacks for an LED. Those who say 4K quality is not noticeable at this size are just wrong. It is an extreme difference. Even watching 1080p content is noticeably better-looking in upscaled 4K compared to our old TV. We also have a wider-than-expected viewing angle. While it does look a little washed out from the sides, we feel it's still watchable. If you want the best color reproduction from a wide viewing angle, you need to spend the money on an OLED. In standard viewing of BluRay and streaming content, I noticed no judder or playback problems. We watch antenna TV. The digital tuner does a good job of finding local channels, and HD channels come in very clearly and look crisp & clear. SD broadcasts are somewhat pixelated, but watchable. This TV doesn't have an analog tuner, which I didn't realize would be a problem until we tried to hook up our old VCR via Coax, which requires analog channel 4 to work. No go. Also, no biggee, since I don't think I've watched a tape in years. SMART INTERFACE: Now, this, I'm not liking very much. While the initial interface is pretty snappy, apps load slowly, and also seems to be a bit buggy at times, with random issues such as kicking us out of apps or not showing thumbnail previews where expected. I'm keeping my Roku Ultra attached for the time being as it just seems to work better. Finally, the advertising & suggestions... This is pretty annoying, and so far one of the biggest drawbacks. I found out you can disable the targeted ads by going to Settings->Support->Terms & Policies, then open "Interest Based Advertisements" and disable it. However, it doesn't get rid of the programming suggestions and some sponsored ads still show up in the GUI at random times. CONCLUSION: I would definitely recommend this if in the market for a budget TV and don't have deep pockets for a fancier model. If you can afford it, I'd say go for the NU8000 instead, but if you need to stay under $500, this is probably the best bang for the buck as of this writing. If picture quality is high on your priority list, then this was the best option at this pricepoint.

Early Failure

However after just 22 days it failed and I now need to spend a day trying to deal with getting it replaced. Would not recommend to anyone.

This was a horrible purchase

After 28 days of owning the television , it started flickering on me. I thought it was the input so i changed to my apple tv which never has issues and the flickering was unstoppable. I then went to swap it for a LG 4K SUHD, and it is 10x better as far as quality and OS perfomance.
