Hate the remote and channel guide!

    Posted .

I purchased this Samsung TV back in 2019 to replace a Vizo 65” TV that died for the second time. I have another older Samsung 48” TV that I migrated to the bedroom for use in there. I love the picture quality of the QLED screen. The Vizio 1st gen 4K it replaced couldn’t keep up with sports viewing. Even a football being thrown would pixelate on the Vizio. The Samsung QLED has no trouble keeping up with any television viewing. The remote is less than impressive. It’s a very simplified remote without any ability to enter numbers like most common remotes. Even the older model I have has a remote that accepts numeric input and works for many functions on this TV. That brings me to the channel guide interface. It has gradually become worse over time. Since the remote has a one button channel interface you’re forced to scroll through the guide. It constantly blanks out the PiP screen and kicks you back to the active channel you were on. It will do this numerous times befor you can scroll through the channel guide. It’s very irritating and software updates from Samsung have done nothing to help it. For one of their higher end products you’d think Samsung would fix it.

Man, I hate this TV. The remote won't work and there are all kinds of issues trying to get other app "remotes" to work. Spent hours trying to trouble shoot for a REMOTE, unbelievable. I am just going to take this garbage back. When the tv is on, the picture is nice, but cannot get it to work with any remote.

I have no problem with the Samsung tv I purchased. The problem is the “ Price Match Policy”, I purchased the tv for $1199.00 on January 3, 2020 and on January 23, 2020 the exact same tv was priced at $999.00. I tried to get the substantial difference back thru the “Price Match Policy” and was denied.. Disappointed......

The new Qled tvs are a downgrade from previos Q tvs Too much dimming on text and not as bright as claimed AI is useless Come on Samsung don't add things just to add if it is going to ruin the picture quality for everyday user TIP : Add local dimmining off feature Had a Q8 fn 2018 and loved it but these new Q series don't hold a candle to previous models

      tomcat980,

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung Q70R. For brightness concerns, please make sure you have the latest firmware (version 1335.0, Nov. 26, 2019):
      https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/2019-qled-tv-q70r-series#manuals

For how-to instructions on downloading the update, please visit: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062224/

Besides the Brightness adjustment you seemed to have already tried under Home > Settings > Picture > Expert Settings, this model features Eco Sensor to adjust TV brightness automatically by measuring the light in your room and optimizing brightness to reduce power consumption.
If you want to turn this off, go to > Settings > General > Eco Solution > Ambient Light Detection
      • If the screen is too dark while you are watching TV in a dark environment, it may be due to the Ambient Light
      • Detection function.
      • The eco sensor is located at the bottom of the TV. Do not block the sensor with any object as doing so can decrease picture brightness

Should you ever need further assistance with other features, please contact Samsung Customer Support via any of the following options:

I might look at other brands for next purchase

I have been brand loyal to Samsung for 15 years. I recently (April 2019) purchased the QN55Q8FN. As far as the picture goes I really dont have a problem. It's definitely not the best picture but I am ok with it. Ide rank the picture quality a 8 out of 10. My issue and the reason I am leaving a review is because of a issue I am having. Every few days when I go to turn my tv on the backlight does not come on. You can very faintly see the source (image) is on but since the blacklight is not on you can barely see it. I end up having to unplug the tv wait a minute and then turn it back on. Up until this point that has worked, but I fear for the future. Also, why is this happening on a barely used 9 month old tv? I called samsung tech support and they realized that i knew what i was talking about and told them it wasnt any eco setting or picture setting that was causing the issue they gave me my ONLY option. The tech said I can schedule a tech to come out to look at the tv but that if the tv is not acting up when the tech comes out I will be charged. Can you see my problem with this? Not only should my new tv not be having the problem it is having, but I also have to hope it's a clear, detectable, and observable problem when someone comes out for it to even POTENTIALLY be resolved. At this point I have to hope if the tv is going to crap out, that it does it before the 1 year warranty runs out, because I am not going to risk having to pay what I assume is a ridiculous amount if a tech comes out and the TV is not having a detectable and observable problem. I have basically already made up my mind to try another brand when I purchase a new tv next year.
