The inside wire melted and became disconnected from the connection plate. Glad there wasn't a fire.

This self-cleaning feature helps prevent the buildup of residue and odor-causing bacteria, keeping your washer drum fresh. We recommend running the self-cleaning cycle once a month or every 40 cycles.

I tried them all at the highest settings (1:38); however, instead of running for 1 hour and 38 minutes, they all would run for only 1 minute and 38 seconds.
